Edit

Overview

  • Born
    January 7, 1948
  • Died
    May 9, 2004 · Mumbai (Cancer)

Biography

    • Laxmi Chayya was mainly known for her vamp roles and item dances in Hindi films during the 60's & 70's. She portrayed modern and traditional women characters in many films. Her noted performances were in 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh', 'Kundan' and 'Raaste Ka Patthar'. With fading roles of dancers and vamps in Hindi films, her career like many others came to an end, especially when the heroines started to play daring/ baring roles and started to wear skimpy dresses.

Trivia

  • Passed away in 2004.
  • Worked in Hind as well as Marathi films.
  • Was more known as a dancer then an actress.
  • Started her career as a child artist in a small role in Talaaq 1958.
  • Laxmi worked with Asha Parekh in several films where Asha was the heroine, while Laxmi had supporting roles. Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971) had been a huge success for both actresses, because of the chartbuster song "Maar Diya Jaaye". Yet, a film magazine falsely claimed that Asha had tried to cut Laxmi's role down. Asha phoned Laxmi and told her to put an end to the story.
