Harrison Ford Candidly Reflects On His Only Oscar-Nominated Role After A Recent Channel Surfing
Image
Harrison Ford, widely revered as a cinematic treasure, has enjoyed a career spanning over seven decades, earning recognition as one of the world's highest-grossing actors. His career began in earnest with modest appearances in George Lucas' American Graffiti (1973) and Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation (1974), hinting at his future promise.

Ford's breakthrough came with his iconic portrayal of Han Solo in Star Wars, a character he embodied across five installments over 40 years. His legacy was further solidified through his role as adventurer Indiana Jones, along with memorable turns as the brooding replicant-hunter Rick Deckard in Blade Runner, and Jack Ryan in political thrillers of the early 1990s.

These performances cemented Ford's image as a rugged, charismatic action star and one of Hollywood's most commercially reliable leading men from the late 1970s to the 2000s. Despite numerous accolades, including multiple Golden Globe and SAG nominations, Ford has only received a...

10 Action Movie Performances That Are Unintentionally Hilarious
Image
Sometimes action movies aim to be serious genre offerings, yet ironically land in comedy terrain. These hilarious films that were never meant to be funny defy logic with their melodramatic line delivery and ridiculous stunts. Similar to a perfectly choreographed fight scene that ends up with the villain slipping on a banana peel, these films are absurdly funny and oddly unforgettable. Even the biggest franchises aren't immune to accidental hilarity, with unintentionally hilarious Marvel movie moments taking audiences by surprise.

Overblown action sequences and actors delivering lines with far too much gusto are just some examples of action films being flipped for comedy gold. For example, Nicolas Cage's unforgettable performance in Con Air is a perfect example. He channels over-the-top intensity into moments that stand out among most of the funniest Nicolas Cage movie moments that weren't intended to be funny, reminding audiences that even tense action films can...

Every Member Of Dutch's Team In Predator, Ranked By Skills
Image
The original Predator movie follows a paramilitary unit into the jungle, and they each bring their own unique skills to the table. In some ways, Predator is a typical 1980s action movie, concerned with big muscles and big explosions. However, the sci-fi element is the first hint that Predator is more sophisticated and nuanced than other action movies of the era. Predator also has elements of slasher horror, as the Predator gradually picks off the members of Dutch's elite unit one by one.

The original is still arguably the best Predator movie of them all. The formula seems simple enough, but it hasn't been easy to replicate the original. Part of the problem is that it's impossible to create suspense and horror once the audience is already familiar with the Predator, but another problem is that the characters in the original are all so distinct. From Jesse Ventura's musclebound...

Iconic Predator Quote Was Originally Cut From the Arnold Schwarzenegger Movie

Predator has several iconic scenes and lines, but one of them would never have been in the final cut of the movie if Arnold Schwarzenegger had not fallen ill. Arnies co-star, Jessie Ventura, recently shared the story of how the films I aint got time to bleed line was originally cut from the film, and was only possible thanks to a last-minute change of plan when Schwarzenegger became sick.

'It Had Been Cut': Jesse Ventura Reveals Predator's Most Quotable Line Was Almost Nixed
Image
One of movie history's most often quoted lines is Jesse Ventura's famous phrase in the 1987 movie Predator: "I ain't got time to bleed." Most fans probably couldn't imagine that line not being in the film, but it came very close to being nixed without even getting filmed.

In a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Ventura was joined by pro wrestler Karrion Kross, who recently went viral for impersonating Ventura's voice. Ventura and Kross both quoted the line, and that led to the story of how it was almost axed from Predator. As the former governor of Minnesota explained, he was really looking forward to filming that scene, given the special military connection he had in real life with co-star Richard Chaves. Unfortunately, the decision was made to scrap filming that scene due to budgetary concerns, and Ventura remembered how disappointed he was at the time.

‘Predator’ Gave Us Not One But Two Epic Monster Reveals
Image
“There’s something out there waiting for us, and it ain’t no man.”

The typical slasher movie formula sees a group of people, often teens, stalked and hunted by a relentless killer with bladed weapons. Predator, released in theaters on June 12, 1987, retooled the slasher rules, swapping out vulnerable adolescents with a well-armed elite military squad prepared to take on guerilla camps in the jungle. Yet, not even they were equipped for the extraterrestrial threat that targeted them as worthy prey.

Seeing special ops so effortlessly dispatched in the grisliest ways is one effective way to increase the threat level of any horror antagonist, alien or otherwise, but director John McTiernan layers in gradual reveals about the eponymous hunter in a way that launched a franchise and clinched the creature’s movie icon status.

This movie monster has not one, but two major reveals.

The Setup

“Got To See Carl”: Predator's Dillon & Blain Actors Reunite 36 Years Later In Friendly Photo
Image
The original Predator film, released in 1987, sees Arnold Schwarzenegger and a squad of commandos facing off against a deadly alien in the jungle. A new image taken at Mad Monster Atlanta 2023 sees two members of this squad, Carl Weathers' Dillon and Jesse Ventura's Blain, having a friendly reunion. While John McTiernan's original film remains a beloved classic, 2022's Prey gives the movie a run for its money as the best in the franchise.

Predator stars Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura reunite in a friendly photo, 36 years after the release of the movie. Directed by John McTiernan, the 1987 film sees Arnold Schwarzenegger take on the role of Dutch, the leader of an elite squad of commandos who encounter a deadly warrior while on a mission in the Central American Jungle. The Predator cast includes Weathers as Dillion and Ventura as Blain, with Bill Duke appearing as Mac, Sonny Landham as Billy,...

Predator Ending Explained: Making Arnie The Underdog
Image
The action movies of the '80s were dominated by Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who developed an intense rivalry going back as far as the Golden Globes in 1977. The two actors found themselves seated at the same table and Arnie, the up-and-coming star who had already bagged an award for his role in "Stay Hungry," openly gloated as Sly's "Rocky" kept missing out on the big prizes. When Stallone's underdog tale finally came out of the envelope for Best Picture, he responded by throwing a bowl of flowers at the ungracious upstart.

Almost a decade later, the "Rocky" franchise unwittingly contributed to Schwarzenegger taking over for Stallone as Hollywood's biggest action hero. The story goes that, after "Rocky IV," a joke spread that the next logical step for the Italian Stallion would be for him to fight a visitor from outer space. That germ of an idea became the screenplay for "Predator,...

Per a new report from DiscussingFilm, production will finally begin soon in Calgary, Alberta, with Midthunder starring in the lead role.

No details have been revealed about the plot or character the character Amber Midthunder will be playing, but the story will reportedly follow "a Comanche woman who goes against the gender norms and traditions of her tribe to become a warrior." Patrick Aison is writing the screenplay. His previous work includes Treadstone, Jack Ryan, and serving as a consultant for Midthunder's show Legion.

14 Perfect, Over-the-Top Lines From ‘Predator’ Movies (Photos)
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987)
As movie franchises go, the “Predator” films have an abundance of iconic, over-the-top, ridiculously quotable lines — way more than a normal film series. It’s likely due to the franchise’s semi-unusual combination of interesting science fiction, ’80s action movie machismo, and surprising willingness to be extremely campy. It results in movies full of lines that are absurd and yet perfectly reasonable when fighting an alien safari hunter that turns people’s skulls into trophies.

Here’s a rundown of 14 great, weird and goofy lines from “Predator,” “Predator 2,” and the newly released Shane Black movie “The Predator.”

“What’s the matter? The CIA got you pushing too many pencils?”

Everyone knows the shot of Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Dillon (Carl Weathers) greeting each other by grabbing hands and flexing their ridiculously big arms, but Dutch’s line making fun of Dillon for getting slightly soft thanks to his desk...

Review: Predator 4K Blu-ray
On Friday, Shane Black’s The Predator will arrive, intending to be a fresh take on the franchise that appears to be playing up the humor. It’s set after the 1987 original and its Predator 2 sequel so acknowledges those events happened, which is cool.

Additionally, 20th Century Home Entertainment has wisely capitalized on the new film by releasing 4K Uhd releases of Predator 4K, Predator 2 4K and Predators 4K.

When the film first arrived, audiences suspected it was another Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick with sci-fi trappings. After all, the one-sheet positioned him, rifle in hand, in the crosshairs of someone. He was paired with Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Richard Chaves, Jesse Ventura, and so on (including Black back when he acted). What no one was prepared for, though, was John McTiernan’s taut direction and Stan Winston’s amazing alien hunter; the helmet removal moment late in the film stunned audiences.

New Trailer for 30th Anniv. of Schwarzenegger Action Classic 'Predator'
"It came for the thrill of the hunt. It picked the wrong man to hunt." While we wait for Shane Black's new The Predator, set to hit theaters in 2018, we can all revisit the original. 20th Century Fox and Park Circus have released a new trailer for the 30th anniversary of John McTiernan's Predator, returning to theaters (in the UK) this November. The action classic was first released in 1987 and actually opened #1 at the box office in the middle of June, earning a total of $59.7 million during its Us theatrical run. Predator starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in one of his early iconic roles, Carl Weathers, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Landham, Richard Chaves, and, yes, even Shane Black. I wish this was a 4K restored re-release, but I don't think it is. Still, it's still awesome to see this film returning to theaters again. Here's the new...

The Predator Is Wickedly Funny Says Sterling K. Brown
Bill Duke
When Shane Black took the reins as writer-director on 20th Century Fox's new project The Predator, which has been confirmed to be a sequel and not a reboot or remake, in many ways, it brought the franchise full-circle. Shane Black actually made his acting debut as Hawkins in the original Predator, which celebrates its 30th Anniversary this summer, and the same year that movie came out, another film he wrote called Lethal Weapon was released, making him one of the most sought-after screenwriters in Hollywood, whose films often showcased a dark comedic edge. With production continuing on The Predator, one of The Predator stars, Sterling K. Brown, spoke about how Shane Black is approaching this story with, unsurprisingly, a 'wicked sense of humor'. Here's what Sterling K. Brown had to say below.

"Shane has his whole take on it and it's very different than the original Predator. It's got a...

The Newly Restored Predator Re-Release Trailer Has Been Released and It Looks Great!
“If it bleeds, we can kill it.”

Director John McTiernan and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s classic 1987 sci-fi action film Predator has been newly restored in 2K for an upcoming theatrical re-release. I freakin’ love this film, and it's a movie I’ve never seen on the big screen. So, to think that one day I’ll be able to watch this newly restored version on the big screen is exciting! Its first stop is in France, though, where it will screen on August 17th. There’s no word on when or if the movie will get a U.S. release yet, but I hope it happens! It would be a bloody shame if it didn’t. Why go through all the trouble of restoring the film if you can't share the awesomeness with the world?!

The movie also stars Carl Weathers, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Landham, and Richard Chaves,...

See the Trailer for Newly Restored French Re-Release of 'Predator'
"There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man." Who has time to bleed when there's a predator lurking around? Everything is getting re-released these days! Why not? France is preparing for a re-release coming up this August of a newly restored (apparently only in 2K, not full 4K though) version of John McTiernan's original sci-fi action film Predator. Originally released in 1987, Predator stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Landham and Richard Chaves. Years after release it has become known as one of the best action movies made, and this trailer lives up to that claim with plenty of explosions. Of course this will make you want to see it again. Here's the new restored French re-release trailer (+ poster) for John McTiernan's Predator, from Vimeo: A team of commandos on a mission in a Central American jungle find themselves hunted by an extra-terrestrial warrior.

When Jean-Claude Van Damme played Predator
Ryan Lambie Jul 6, 2016

In 1986, Jean-Claude Van Damme was the title alien in Predator before he was hurriedly recast. Ryan looks back at what happened...

In the mid-1980s, Belgian martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme arrived in America with dreams of stardom. Possessing a finely-honed physique, thanks to years of training in (among other things) karate, kickboxing and ballet, he was ambitious and brimming with self-belief.

The acting bug bit Van Damme while he was still in his teens: he played “a bad guy with all the knives” in the 1984 French gangster movie Rue Barbare and, determined to further his goal of becoming an actor, hopped on a plane to Los Angeles. His first few years in America were, however, tough. He slept in a rental car for two weeks, and made money by teaching aerobics and martial arts, delivering pizzas, and working as a doorman at a restaurant belonging to Chuck Norris.

Shane Black's 'Predator' Is a Sequel, Not a Reboot
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987)
The big news item that surfaced yesterday was that Shane Black has come aboard to direct, produce and oversee the writing process on 20th Century Fox's Untitled Predator Reboot. The filmmaker will first write the outline before his The Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker takes over screenplay duties.

Naturally, no plot details were revealed in yesterday's story, but today, Shane Black revealed in a new interview that this project is definitely not a reboot, calling it an "inventive sequel."

"Why start over, when you've all this rich mythology yet to mine? (I can) really get behind inventive sequels, the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button."

The filmmaker also added that Fred Dekker is the "perfect" choice to write the screenplay for Untitled Predator Reboot, and that he "had a blast" working with the writer on The Monster Squad.

'Predator' Reboot Gets 'Iron Man 3' Director Shane Black
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987)
20th Century Fox has hired Shane Black to write, produce and direct a Predator reboot.

Shane Black will first write an initial outline laying out the story, before Fred Dekker, Shane Black's old college friend and co-writer of The Monster Squad, takes over screenwriting duties. Shane Black will oversee the entire writing process.

Shane Black, who was considered an early screenwriting phenom for his Lethal Weapon and The Monster Squad scripts, actually had a minor role as Hawkins in the original Predator. He was initially asked to rewrite the Predator script. After turning down the job several times, 20th Century Fox offered him the role of Hawkins, which he agreed to take on. Upon arriving to the set in South America, he was asked to take a look at the script, but he still refused to work on it.

Watch the Story Behind Jean-Claude Van Damme as the Original 'Predator'
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987)
Before Jean-Claude Van Damme had his breakout role in the martial-arts drama Bloodsport, the Muscles from Brussels was originally set to play the title character in Predator. At the time, the creature design was much different, with the actor spending a few days on the set running around in a red, lobster-esque suit, which we can now see thanks to The Monster Show, a web series put on by the Stan Winston School of Character Arts. Steve Johnson, who worked on Predator and a number of iconic movies such as Ghostbusters and The Abyss, explained how unhappy Jean-Claude Van Damme was with the suit, how he thought he would be able to showcase his martial arts skills in this movie and much more, along with footage from his early days on the set, and images of the original costume design.

Of course, after the 5'9" Jean-Claude Van Damme left the project,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger Considering Terminator, Predator, and The Running Man Remakes
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Ex-Governor of California and action movie icon Arnold Schwarzenegger recently attended The Arnold Classic, where he meets fans to regal them with tales of inspiration, and to field any questions about his past and future career.

Since the beginning of this year, there have been many rumors about Arnold Schwarzenegger's next move as an actor. In early February, he was said to be considering reprising his role as the unstoppable cyborg of the Terminator franchise, with the Fast Five team of director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan bringing him back for this fifth outing. In January, he explained that he was looking at three possible scripts, of which he didn't reveal too many details.

What is Arnold Schwarzenegger actually considering? Here is what he had to say about a new Terminator and those three scripts.

7. Jesse Ventura in ‘Predator’ (1987)
The Body hasn’t been just a wrestler and an actor — he’s also been a colorful television commentator, a Navy Seal and Vietnam vet, and, like his “Predator” co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger, a governor. The Hall of Famer, whose real name is James George Janos, appeared with the Governator twice more on film, in “The Running Man” and in a cameo in “Batman & Robin.” But he’s best remembered on the big screen for his short-lived turn as an uncouth commando on a mission in the Central American jungle when he and the rest of the team are targeted by an extraterrestrial warrior.

Choice Quotation:

Blain (Ventura): Son of a bitch is dug in like an Alabama tick.

Poncho (Richard Chaves): You’re bleeding, man. You’re hit.

Poncho: Okay … [He shoots grenades up the cliff] You got time to duck?

Predators Triple Bill
Keener eyed readers among you may have observed that HeyUGuys have gone the extra (terrestrial) mile in recent weeks to bring you heaving piles of Predatory goodness. Dave crossed the globe to meet the talent at Troublemaker Studios. The mighty Hug Video Vault swung open for Dave Roper’s take on Predator and Predator 2. Jon broke down what you can expect from the Predators Blu-ray when you dash out to buy it later today. And then on Sunday night – on Halloween for pity’s sake – we ventured into deepest darkest Leicester Square to watch all three movies just for you. Call it foolhardy, call it quality control or call it dedication to our cause. We went, we watched and we lived to tell the tale.

The legendary Prince Charles Cinema (home to the Kevin Smith toilet cubicle fact fans) was our host for the triple bill. There in the...

Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition Blu-ray Review
“You’re ghostin’ us, motherfucker. I don’t care who you are back in the world, you give away our position one more time, I’ll bleed ya, real quiet. Leave ya here. Got that?” Watching Predator again it’s always amazing how much of the film is intensely quotable. But perhaps it’s that if you were alive and near a playground, twelve year old boys ate this film up, and watched it repeatedly on HBO. The film is about a bunch of tough hombres (including Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Shane Black, Sonny Landham, and Carl Weathers) headed up by Arnold Schwarzenegger who are sent into the Latin America jungles to rescue some hostages, but end up being targeted by an alien who’s come to the jungle to hunt men. It’s a simple premise, precisely executed by John McTiernan, and has become an action classic since release.

Predator

By the late 1980s, Arnold Schwarzenegger, a former Austrian bodybuilder-turned-actor (and currently the governor of California), had become the 80s' most popular action star. Despite several missteps (e.g., the Conan sequel, Conan the Conqueror, Red Sonja, and Raw Deal), Schwarzenegger picked roles that worked to his strengths as an onscreen performer, not his limitations, none better, qualitatively than his first collaboration with James Cameron, The Terminator, and his second (after Commando a year earlier) with John McTiernan (The Thomas Crown Affair, Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Last Action Hero, The Hunt for Red October, Die Hard), Predator.

Predator, a genre mash-up that combined science fiction with horror and action, centers on Schwarzenegger's character, listed only as "Dutch" in the credits. The U.S. military, calls in Dutch and his squad, Blain (former Navy Seal turned actor [and later politician] Jesse Ventura), Mac (Bill Duke), Billy (Sonny Landham), the squad's Native-American tracker,...
