Chase made his name in vaudeville and burlesque in the 1920's, mostly
by eating anything and everything such as cardboard, flowers, and even
lit matches, cigars and cigarettes. He also appeared cameo-like in
several movies and then, when the offers dried up, went on the carnival
circuit for 20 years. In the 1950s, he made guest appearances on
variety shows and in nightclubs and even showed up on Letterman before
his death.
