This new audio soap premiered on April 22. It features a star-studded cast with your favorite actors, such as Crystal Chappell, Vincent Irizarry (All My Children), and Mike Manning (Beyond The Gates).

Unfortunately, it’s only a 10-episode series. It’s unclear whether Montecito has been renewed for a second season. Each episode is only 20 minutes and immerses soap fans into a neighborhood that’s not what it seems. It’s packed with family secrets, broken romances,...

Montecito, New Audio Soap From Grant Rutter Makes Its Debut, All The Details & Episode Recap
Image
What is old becomes new again in this reimagining of the classic audio soap opera. Gone are the days of entire families sitting around the radio listening to their favorite “programs” together, but in this era of podcasts and instant gratification, Montecito most certainly fits the bill.

It doesn’t fill a void, but instead it carves out a new lane for continued storytelling, soap opera style. The world that we live in seems to be a balance between us never having enough time, while somehow always waiting for something.

That’s where Montecito comes into play, because it is the perfect 20 minute listen on your drive into work, or while you’re waiting for your kids to get out of school, or making dinner, or… okay, you get the idea. My bet is that this brand new gem is going to become an addictive little guilty pleasure pretty quickly.

Days of Our Lives’ Louise Sorel Dishes About Vivian’s Most Memorable Moment
Image
It’s always fun when a villain returns to a soap, especially a wacky one. Fans have enjoyed Louise Sorel’s character, Vivian Alamain, popping in a few times in the last few years on Days of Our Lives because she’s always got some crazy scheme going on. Now, Sorel opened up about one of Vivian’s most iconic moments, which was more disturbing than funny, and how that came to be.

To Jig, or Not to Jig

As if Vivian wasn’t nutty enough to begin with, in 1993, when she was under the influence of some herbs, she had her nemesis Carly (Crystal Chappell) buried alive in a coffin that was outfitted with oxygen, lights, and a walkie-talkie. She eventually came to her senses and told Lawrence (Michael Sabatino) about it, and he quickly rescued Carly.

“I was very grateful for that and that they allowed it to happen,...

Johnny thinks he knows what he saw and will look really stupid when he realizes he let his imagination run away with him. Wait until he tells his wife the real reason he let this Three’s Company-level misunderstanding fester. In the Tuesday, October 22 episode of Days of Our Lives, he told Nancy’s daughter Joy why he rather stew over his wife’s alleged transgression.

Skewed Narrative

Johnny (Carson Boatman) sat at the bar drinking beer with a massive shot of brood. He felt a righteous fury over being so sure Chanel (Raven Bowens) and Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) had sex. He barked at Joy (AlexAnn Hopkins) when she initially talked about her relatively tame problems, but ultimately, he opened up to her after exchanging first names only,...

What are the best LGBTQ soap opera love stories of all time: Will and Sonny? Olivia and Natalia? Luke and Noah? [Poll]
Image
Who were the best LGBTQ couples in daytime soap opera history? The sad truth is that there aren’t that many to choose from. Despite the shows dipping their toes in the water with queer characters and storylines in the 1990s — like Ryan Phillippe as groundbreaking gay teen Billy Douglas on “One Life to Live” from 1992 to 1993 — the show shied away from romance for its queer characters until the 21st century. Daytime Emmys: Network Soaps Lift Boycott Threat But Others Will Shun Awards Over NATAS’ Response To Snafus
Heather Tom, Thorsten Kaye, and Katherine Kelly Lang in Amour, gloire et beauté (1987)
The four network daytime dramas will not be boycotting next year’s Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony as they’d threatened to in July. In an unprecedented show of unity, after being dissatisfied with the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ response to screw-ups during this year’s awards show, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless banded together this summer to present a list of complaints and demands for changes that prompted NATAS to commission an investigation by an outside counsel. The report from that review was put out November 8.

“The four daytime dramas are in receipt of NATAS’ internal investigation report and recommendations moving forward,” a spokesperson of the four series said in a statement to Deadline. “As a group, we are not in agreement with all of the conclusions that NATAS reached. However, in the spirit of working...

Daytime Emmys Boycott Called After ‘Bulls—‘ Decision to Strip Actresses of Award (Exclusive)
The drama behind the scenes of the Daytime Emmys is getting as juicy as the soaps they honor.

At least three top daytime veterans on Monday called for a boycott of the event after the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ recent decision to revoke the awards of two actresses over submissions errors, while allowing a male actor who committed a similar infraction to keep his.

Emmy-nominated producer Michael Caruso, Emmy-winning director and producer Sonia Blangiardo and Emmy-winning actress and producer Crystal Chappell told TheWrap that they “are not willing to participate in future Emmy competitions” until NATAS agrees to an outside audit of all submission reels in the digital series category and clears up the underlying issues about submissions.

“That is an insult to our creative teams and we are no longer willing to look the other way,” they said in a joint statement.
