Born in 1948, Chakraborty’s work often reflected his deep engagement with socio-political issues. His debut documentary “Mukti Chai” (1976) was created during the Emergency, showcasing his commitment to addressing contemporary realities.

In addition to directing, Chakraborty composed music and wrote scripts for all his films. His movie “Chokh” won the Best Feature Film at the 30th National Awards for its powerful narrative on the exploitation of jute mill workers.
