Principal photography is underway in Winnipeg, Canada on November 1963, director Roland Joffe’s thriller about events surrounding the assassination of US president John F Kennedy.

With a cast headed by John Travolta, Robert Carlyle, Dermot Mulroney and Mandy Patinkin, the film is expected to wrap in early August.

Screenplay is by Nicholas Celozzi, grand-nephew of Sam Giancana, the boss of crime organisation the Chicago Outfit, who was known for his ties to the Kennedy family.

Kevin DeWalt of Mind’s Eye Entertainment serves as producer, along with Celozzi. Co-producer is Carrie Wilkins and Jean Guy Despres is co-executive producer.

There are few better at writing single room screenplays than David Mamet. If you don’t believe us, go back and rewatch the introduction of Alec Baldwin’s sales shark, Blake, in 1992’s Glengarry Glen Ross. Mamet can weave magic from placing a couple of human beings in a single space and writing dialogue for them.

Henry Johnson, the director’s new film, follows the title character (Evan Jonigkeit) and his experiences in the US prison system, where he eventually shares a cell with Gene.

Mamet writes and directs. The story is based on his own 2023 play of the same name, the same process that led him to direct Glengarry Glen Ross for the screen. Mamet’s other script work includes films like The Verdict, Hannibal and Wag The Dog.

Exclusive: Nicholas Celozzi, a co-writer and producer on the Barry Levinson JFK flick Assassination, has filed a lawsuit against the film’s financier and production outfit 308 US.

Originally filed by Celozzi in a Los Angeles County court in November, the suit will go before a judge in April who will decide whether the legal action can proceed.

Celozzi, an LA-based producer, accuses 308 of multiple contractual breaches. The company contests those claims and has filed a motion to dismiss and has provided a comment below.

The suit is messy and largely born out of several complicated production agreements signed before Levinson’s involvement in the project. April’s hearing will be the latest stage in the months-long legal standoff. The meat and potatoes are as follows.

The pic is being produced by Corey Large (It Follows), Jason Sosnoff (Wise Guys) and Giancana’s grandnephew Nicholas Celozzi (The Class). Executive producer are John Burnham (Atlas Artists) and Jordan Nott. Finance comes from 308 Enterprises.

The film, which was previously titled “2 Days/1963,” will focus on events that took place 48 hours before the assassination, telling the mob’s version of the story. The script is based on the story of Sam Giancana, the Chicago mob boss who may have played a significant role in orchestrating Kennedy’s assassination.

Mamet will direct the film, which is written by him and Nicholas Celozzi, who is Giancana’s grandnephew. Oscar-winning director of photography Robert Elswitt (“There Will Be Blood”) will be the film’s cinematographer.

Production is scheduled to start in September in Vancouver.

Another teen singer/songwriter icon from the past, Debbie Gibson, will also be featured in the film as a drama teacher, in addition to John Kapelos … who had a key role in “The Breakfast Club” as Carl the Janitor. Exclusive: Paul Ben-Victor is set to join Harvey Keitel, Emile Hirsch and Ruby Rose in the George Gallo-directed mobster drama The Legitimate Wise Guy, which tells the true story of Tony Spilotro, a feared mob enforcer from the crime syndicate known as the Chicago Outfit. Ben-Victor will step into the role of Spilotro.

Based on an original screenplay by Nicholas Celozzi and Jim McGrath, the film chronicles Spilotro, who ran the Chicago Outfit which rose to power in the 1920s under the notorious Al Capone. Spilotro overlooked the outfit’s skimming operations in Las Vegas. While there, he met a young man aspiring to make it big in Hollywood as an actor. The mob boss mentors and lures him into his criminal world.

Celozzi serves as producer for Monaco Films alongside Richard Salvatore for March on Productions. Michael Sportelli of Monaco Films and Freddy Braidy serve as executive producers.

Hall broke out as high school brainiac Brian Johnson in the 1985 classic “The Breakfast Club,” which focused on five students serving high school detention on a Saturday. “The Class” involves a diverse group of six high school seniors forced to show up on a Saturday to retake an exam they either failed or missed in order to graduate.

The students are challenged by their acting teacher to create their own characters and must bring their own personal experiences into an emotional space of improvisation in front of classmates they do not know. Faced with their cultural differences, prejudices and hidden fears, they are confronted to break through their own walls and establish truths when they are unprepared to deal with themselves emotionally.

Roland Joffe will direct the independent mobster drama “The Legitimate Wiseguy,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Joffe received Academy Award nominations for best director for “The Killing Fields” and “The Mission,” which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986. He also helmed “The Scarlet Letter,” “The Forgiven,” “City of Joy,” “Time Traveller,” and “There Be Dragons.”

“The Legitimate Wiseguy” is based on the true coming-of-age story of veteran writer/producer Nicholas Celozzi, and centers on his relationship with Tony Spilotro, a mob enforcer who was the inspiration behind Joe Pesci’s character of Nicholas “Nicky” Santoro in Martin Scorsese’s 1995 film “Casino.” Spilotro was murdered in 1986.

“Though Tony and I had a father-son relationship, I was playing checkers while he was playing chess,” Celozzi said. “He was always many moves ahead of me.”

Rlj Entertainment has released the full trailer for "Kickboxer Vengeance," the upcoming reboot of the 1989 Jean-Claude Van Damme martial arts movie.

John Stockwell helms the new one in which Alain Moussi plays a man who witnesses the merciless murder of his brother at the hands of Muay Thai champion Tong Po (Dave Bautista). He vows revenge and with the help of his brother's mentor (Jean-Claude Van Damme taking on the mentor role this time out) sets out to avenge his brother/s death.

Gina Carano, George St. Pierre and Sara Malakul Lane also star in the film which Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi will produce.

Way back in December, a teaser trailer was released for Kickboxer: Vengeance, and in February, a sequel was announced, entitled Kickboxer Retaliation, which will star Game of Thrones actor Haf&#254&#243r J&#250l&#237us Bj&#246rnsson. We haven't had any updates on Kickboxer: Vengeance since then, but today we have the first full trailer for this remake, which will hit theaters September 2. The producers of the upcoming “Kickboxer” remake starring Jean-Claude Van Damme still haven’t paid more than 150 crew members, vendors and extras based in Louisiana despite weeks of promising to do so, individuals close to the production told TheWrap.

John Stockwell is directing the “Kickboxer” remake, which costars Gina Carano and is being produced by Ted Field of Radar Pictures as well as Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi. Filming in New Orleans wrapped on Dec. 13, the production office closed, and the filmmakers subsequently moved on to the Thailand portion of the shoot.

Mixed martial arts fighter and actress Gina Carano has signed on to star in the Kickboxer remake. The actress will portray a fight promoter, alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dave Bautista and Alain Moussi. The remake is currently filming in New Orleans.

The story follows Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), a gifted martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn kickboxing secrets to avenge the death of his brother. Dave Bautista is playing the villainous Tong Po, who killed Kurt's brother. Jean-Claude Van Damme, who played Kurt Sloane in the original 1989 film Kickboxer, signed on last week to portray Master Chow, replacing the initially-attached Tony Jaa. The cast also includes Georges St. Pierre, Scott Adkins and Sara Malakul Lane, who is playing Kurt's love interest.

Just days after Jean-Claude Van Damme signed on to the Kickboxer remake, the project has found its female lead in Thai supermodel Sara Malakul Lane. The story centers on Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), who travels to Thailand to learn how to become a kickboxer, in order to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of the villainous Tong Po (Dave Bautista). Sara Malakul Lane is playing Sloane's love interest, a detective who is investigating his brother's death.

Ufc welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre also stars, alongside Scott Adkins. Jean-Claude Van Damme is playing Master Chow, replacing the previously-attached Tony Jaa. Margaret O’Brien has been appointed to the newly created position of Evp Corporate Development at eOne, responsible for overseeing the company’s M&A activities across the group. O’Brien joined eOne in September 2008 when the company acquired Barna-Alper Productions and is currently President and COO at eOne Television. The exec has built and broadened relationships with creative talent and broadcasters, set up a string of first-look deals and focused on eOne’s factual television unit, where she orchestrated the acquisitions of Paperny Entertainment and Force Four Entertainment. Most recently, O’Brien closed eOne’s deal with interactive agency Secret Location, securing an equity stake in the business and new digital content development opportunities for eOne. A quarter century on from its release, Radar Films' remake of 1989's "Kickboxer" is getting a familiar face - the original's star and Belgian martial arts icon Jean Claude Van Damme.

The original film starred Van Damme as Kurt Sloane, the cornerman for his talented martial artist brother Eric. The pair travel to Thailand where the brother is crippled at the hands of the country's undefeated champion Tong Po. Vowing to avenge him, Kurt seeks the help of Xian Chow - a famous trainer living in a remote part of the country.

In the new version, Van Damme will take on the Xian Chow role with newcomer Alain Moussi taking on the Kurt Sloane role. Also starring are former Ufc champion Georges St Pierre in the Eric role and Dave Bautista as Tong Po.

Van Damme replaces Tony Jaa who was originally slated to play the remake's Master Chow.

I don't think I can properly convey how excited I am.  I've always been bummed that Van Damme fell off the map for so long, because I think he's a strong action actor and deserved better.  His turn in Expendables 2 as the villain provide ample proof of his badass nature.  While I can't say I was really looking forward to a Kickboxer remake, my excitement level just kciked up a few notches.

We're sure there's a precedent for this somewhere, but it's rare for actors to join remakes of films they previously starred in. But then again, Jean-Claude Van Damme is no regular actor. The martial artist and thespian is replacing Tony Jaa in the currently lensing remake of his breakout hit film "Kickboxer." The actor is taking the role of "Master Chow" which should be....interesting.
