  • Eton-educated British character actor who specialised in comic portrayals of upper-class eccentrics. Well-remembered as sidekick "Hastings" to Peter Ustinov's "Poirot" during the 1980's.
  • He was the eldest son of Lord David Cecil. Great-grandson of prime minister Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, grandson of James Gascoyne-Cecil 4th Marquess of Salisbury, nephew of Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, cousin of Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, and second cousin of Robert Gascoyne-Cecil.
  • Studied for two years at London's Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
  • A member of the Oxford University Experimental Theatre Club's touring production of 'Bartholomew Fair'. which was co directed by Ken Loach.
  • Prep school education at the Dragon at Oxford. then university at Eton with part of his university time spent at the Sorbonne in France.
  • Jonathon Cecil was a descendant of Sir William Cecil, Lord, later 1st Baron Burghley, Lord Treasurer and Chief Minister to Queen Elizabeth 1 for 40 years, via his younger son Robert, created 1st Earl of Salisbury in 1605.
