    Lead trumpet player (as 'Lee Castaldo'), variously with Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Joe Venuti, Will Bradley, Benny Goodman, Bunny Berigan and Red Norvo. Periodically led his own bands after 1940, which enjoyed recording affiliations with Epic and Musicraft. His playing was similar in style to that of Harry James. After the death of Jimmy Dorsey in 1957, Castle assumed leadership of his orchestra at which time he achieved greater commercial success than hitherto.
