The Set Decorators Society of America is out with the nominees for its 2024-25 Sdsa TV Awards, which honor the top achievements in small-screen decor/design from June 1, 2024-May 31, 2025. See the full list below.

The international organization will vote on the nominations from July 11-18 and reveal the winners on August 10. Its Lifetime Achievement and other meritorious award recipients will be named later.

The Set Decorators Society of America revealed the nominees for its 2025 Sdsa Awards on Friday. The kudos highlight outstanding achievement in the 2024-2025 TV season across nine categories.

Several 2025 Emmys contenders will duke it out at the Sdsa TV Awards on Aug. 10., including Black Mirror, Poker Face, Severance, The White Lotus, and Your Friends & Neighbors, which are all nominated for Best One Hour Contemporary Series. For Best One Hour Period Series, 1923, Bridgerton, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Pachinko, and Yellowjackets all received bids. In contention for Best Sci-Fi Series are Andor, Dune: Prophecy, House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Among the contenders in comedy are Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, The Righteous Gemstones, The Studio, and What We Do in the Shadows. Filling out the ballot for Best Movie or Limited Series are The Four Seasons,...

Amazon MGM Studios’ Nickel Boys won a leading six awards Monday at the Black Reel Awards, including the group’s marquee Outstanding Film Award and Outstanding Director for RaMell Ross.

The awards, celebrating their 25th edition, honors the year’s best in Black cinematic excellence, were handed out Monday in a virtual ceremony.

Nickel Boys, adapted from Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and nominated for the Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay Oscars, also won tonight for Outstanding Screenplay, Outstanding Emerging Director, Outstanding First Screenplay and Outstanding Cinematography.

Netflix’s The Piano Lesson won four awards including Outstanding Supporting Performance for Danielle Deadwyler, Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Hairstyling & Makeup and Outstanding Production Design.

Other notable winners tonight included Hard Truths star Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who won the gender-neutral Outstanding Lead Performance award. The Mike Leigh film also won Outstanding International Film.

As is the case with most below-the-line Oscar categories, bigger equals better when it comes to Best Production Design. The more lavish the sets, the more accurate the period detail, the more extravagant the designs, the more likely your film will win an Academy Award. Formerly known as Best Art Direction/Set Decoration, this prize goes to the production designer and set decorator, leaving the poor art directors on the outside looking in; perhaps that accounts for the title change. Ryan Cassidy, the son of actors Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy and the brother of singer/actor David Cassidy and actor Patrick Cassidy, has written a children’s book about being babysat by an Oscar-winning actor. Growing up in a family of Hollywood stars, Ryan certainly had a memorable childhood, including being looked after one afternoon by the iconic actor James Cagney, who died in 1986. Smallville concluded its 10-season run without resolving a significant Lana Lang story. First beginning in 2001, Smallville tells the tale of a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) developing his powers and learning about his Kryptonian origins on his journey to becoming Superman. Many characters central to the Superman mythos play important roles on Smallville, not the least of which is his high school girlfriend, Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk).

On Smallville, Lana spends much of the show suspecting there is much more to Clark than meets the eye before eventually learning his secret in season 6. Smallville's Lana Lang occasionally annoyed fans in trying to uncover the truth about Clark, but Lana's need to know the truth is a core part of her identity. 101 has worldwide rights excluding the US, where Lifetime will release.

UK-based sales and distribution firm 101 Films International has acquired world sales rights excluding the US for Christmas feature Santa Bootcamp starring West Side Story’s Rita Moreno.

101 will launch sales on the film at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival. The completed film is scheduled for delivery by the end of October this year. It is set to air as a Liftetime film in the US during the 2022 holiday season.

Lifetime has added two movies to its upcoming “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” holiday slate, including the Rita Moreno-starring “Santa Bootcamp,” directed by Melissa Joan Hart, and Sarah Drew’s “Reindeer Games Homecoming,” which she will write, star in and executive produce.

Moreno will be joined by Tony Award winner Marissa Jaret Winokur (“Hairspray”), Emily Kinney (“The Walking Dead”) and Justin Gaston in the holiday tentpole movie. The 1987 classic Dirty Dancing will be heading to the small screen through a new partnership with ABC and Lionsgate TV, with a new three-hour musical adaptation starring Abigail Breslin as Baby. Deadline reports that the project is expected to get an official green light from ABC after one more role is cast, most likely the Johnny Castle role, originally played by Patrick Swayze. It isn't known if the production is close to casting their Johnny Castle yet.

Unlike NBC's The Wiz Live!, which aired last week, and Fox's upcoming Grease: Live, ABC isn't planning a live rendition of Dirty Dancing. This musical adaptation will be taped prior to the broadcast, much like Fox's upcoming The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event, which is slated to debut sometime next year. Since ABC hasn't officially given a green light yet, it isn't known when production will begin at this time.

You can hardly blame the powers that be for wanting to capitalize on the success of an unusually popular movie by creating a television spin-off. Undoubtedly they will expect it to be met with open arms and, more importantly, open wallets. They try to say that it will tie up loose ends from the original film and expand upon the story lines. The problem is, you see, that for the most part films don’t lend themselves to the episodic nature of television. They are very much self-contained units that function perfectly well on their own, and stretching them out is often detrimental.

Then consider the fact that film stars, until very recently, didn’t do television, and therefore would be unlikely to reprise their role. It’s a recipe for disaster, and unsurprisingly a lot of these TV spin-offs were met with derision and swift cancellation,...

When we were kids, starting on the day after Thanksgiving we began to eagerly anticipate the arrival of the Sears Wish Book. The 500+ page catalog was our bible when it came time to put in our order with the big man in the North Pole.

And when we say order, we mean a big honkin' order. We did not simply make a brief request for one or two toys from Santa. We would sit with the Sears catalog and carefully comb through it page by page, over and over. Our lists were detailed itemizations including page, price, size, color and sometimes quantity. After all you can never have too many refills for your pot holder weaving machine or enough packets of frosting for your Easy Bake Oven cakes.

We are happy to say we have outgrown our more-than-slightly commercialized view of the holiday season. And...

It's a family affair next week at the Cabrillo Music Theatre. Legend of stage and screen Shirley Jones (Mrs. Partridge to us TV fans) and her son/Broadway star Patrick Cassidy (brother to Shaun and half-brother to David) are appearing together on stage for the holidays.

Shirley and Patrick are performing for four days in The Cabrillo 2010 Holiday Spectacular. For six performances only, catch the mother and son team as they make the season bright along with a cast of 30 dancers, singers and elves. Think of it as the Valley's homage to the Radio City Rockettes mixed in with a few old time TV family holiday specials a la Andy Williams or Bing Crosby.

The trailer for my most-anticipated film was released earlier this week and we gave you 90 gorgeous wallpapers from it. Today, Fox Searchlight has launched the Facebook page and the official site for Terrrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life.

Over on that official site, you can listen to the first piece from Alexandre Desplat‘s score. Desplat has most recently provided the score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, The King’s Speech, Tamara Drewe, and The Ghost Writer all this year. On August 13, Ravinia opened its three-day run of Irving Berlin's hit-filled Broadway classic Annie Get Your Gun. Taking on her third Merman role, Patti LuPone stars as the sharp-shooter opposite Patrick Cassidy as Frank Butler and George Hearn as Buffalo Bill Cody. The production is directed by Lonny Price with Paul Gemignani leading the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The shows, Aug. 13 through 15, begin at 7:30 p.m.

ABC Family has opted to pass on ordering a second season of its freshman sitcom, Ruby & the Rockits.

In Ruby & the Rockits, former teen icon Patrick Gallagher (Patrick Cassidy) has been living quietly with his wife (Katie A. Keane) and their two sons, teenage Jordan (Austin Butler) and sarcastic preteen Ben (Kurt Doss).

Things change when Patrick's former band-mate brother, David (David Cassidy), shows up with David's previously unknown teenage daughter, Ruby (Alexa Vega). David doesn't want to give up his show-biz life and leans on his brother to help raise his daughter, who's a rising star on her own.

Ruby And The Rockits debuted on July 21st to 1.6 million viewers and 654,000 in the 18-49 demographic, making it the second best sitcom launch in the network's history. It even built out of the audience of fellow freshman comedy 10 Things I Hate About You.

It's a mini-"Partridge Family" reunion when Shirley Jones once again plays real-life stepson David Cassidy's TV mom when she guest stars on "Ruby and the Rockits." In the "50 Ways to Heave Your Mother" episode of the ABC Family show, Shirley plays David and Patrick Cassidy's mother -- Patrick is her real-life son -- when she visits the boys and meets David's long-lost daughter for the first time. She insists that Ruby (Alexa Vega) call her Mrs. Gallagher instead of Grandma -- even as Ruby valiantly tries to win her affections. "Ruby and the Rockits" is a family affair as Shaun Cassidy serves as exec producer and brother Ryan is the set decorator. "50 Ways to Heave Your Mother" airs Tuesday, September 15 at 8:30 p.m. on ABC Family.

I think I love this: Shirley Jones will guest-star on ABC Family's Ruby & the Rockits, playing mother to David and Patrick Cassidy, her real-life stepson and son, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Shaun Cassidy, another of the actress' sons with the late actor Jack Cassidy, executive-produces the new comedy. He joked that Jones got the role the old-fashioned way.

"She slept with the producer," he tells TVGuide.com. "Although in her defense, I was two years old at the time and afraid of the dark."

ABC Family has set up its new lineup.

Following the success of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," the cable network has picked up three new female-oriented series, comedies "Ruby and the Rockits" and "10 Things I Hate About You" and drama "Perfect 10." All three have received 10-episode orders.

Additionally, ABC Family has renewed college dramedy "Greek" for a third season and black family drama "Lincoln Heights" for a fourth season with 10-episode pickups, while canceling 3-year-old sci-fi mystery "Kyle Xy."

Pending is the renewal of smash hit "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," the size of whose order is still being determined.

Based on the feature of the same name, "10 Things I Hate About You" is a single-camera comedy about the Stratford sisters -- the strong-willed Kat (Lindsey Shaw) and social butterfly Bianca (Meaghan Jette Martin).
