Original Mortal Kombat Movie Now Streaming for Free
Image
The 1995 film adaptation of the classic fighting game Mortal Kombat is now available to stream for free.

Fans of the gory franchise can now watch the cult classic for free on Tubi. Although the 1995 film has an infamous reputation for poorly representing the brutality of the games, it still carries a charm that fans have since been able to see the merit in.

Lewis Tan teases more violence and gore for Mortal Kombat 2.

The film featured many of the game's iconic characters, including Raiden (Christopher Lambert), Liu Kang (Robin Shou), Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby), Shang Tsung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson), Kitana (Talisa Soto), Kano (Trevor Goddard), Scorpion (Chris Casamassa), Sub-Zero (Franois Petit), and Reptile (Keith Cooke).

The film somewhat follows the original game's plot, following the fighters participating in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Despite mixed reviews,...

Mortal Kombat Reboot Finds Its Scorpion & Shang Tsung
Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim in Mortal Kombat (2021)
The cast for the Mortal Kombat reboot continues to grow, as two new cast members have boarded the project in key roles. It's been revealed that Hiroyuki Sanada is set to portray Scorpion in the reboot, with Chin Han on board as the villainous Shang Tsung. They join an increasingly full cast that will bring the characters of the beloved video game franchise to life on the big screen in the modern, R-rated take on this immensely popular property.

According to a new report, both Chin Han and Hiroyuki Sanada have signed on for the movie. Mortal Kombat is currently in pre-production. Filming is expected to take place in Australia later this year, with horror master and blockbuster maestro James Wan on board to produce. Simon McQuoid, who is known mostly for his commercial work, is set to make his feature directorial debut. Greg Russo, who is also attached to the Resident Evil reboot,...

Action Packed Flashback – Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
After grossing over $125 million in the Summer of 1995, the popularity of the hit arcade/console game Mortal Kombat was apparent beyond the joystick. Obviously, due to its success, a sequel was made and released in November 1997, but the same type of success eluded Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Critically ripped apart, the film did go onto gross $51 million, which on a budget of $30, was a minor success still.

John R. Leonetti took over as director for Paul W.S. Anderson, who went on to direct Event Horizon as this film followed the events of the closing moments of the first film. Shao Kahn (played by genre vet Brian Thompson) has ignored the sacred rules of the tournament, and with the defeat of Shang Tsung, has entered the Earth Realm to seize his control. With the help of Raiden (Dexter‘s James Remar filling in for the departed Christopher Lambert), Liu Kang (Robin Shou...

Mortal Kombat Reboot Meets Legal Issues
Last summer, Screen Rant reported on news that a Mortal Kombat 3 movie may start production later that summer. The rumor originated from Chris Casamassa, the martial arts master who played the role of Scorpion in the first Mortal Kombat movie and in a few episodes of Mortal Kombat: Conquest, the TV series.

It seemed beyond strange that we had heard nothing about it and that if what he said was true, it would have been shooting a mere 2 months later. It likely would have been some low-budget straight-to-dvd flick. As I said then, perhaps that’s the only way to go after the terrible outing of the latest Street Fighter movie but either way, it didn’t happen.

Fast forward to the present, and three weeks ago we found out that Warner Bros. would be moving forward with a Mortal Kombat franchise reboot to be written by Oren Uziel.

Mortal Kombat (1995)
'Mortal Kombat' Reboot Is Not A Fatality
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Last summer we heard from Scorpion actor Chris Casamassa that another return to video game adaptation "Mortal Kombat" was being planned. At the time -- early July -- he said that the plan was to start shooting in September. We reached out to Warner Bros for confirmation, and never heard back.

It seems that the September shoot Casamassa referenced didn't come to pass. In fact, if the latest news is accurate, he might not even be involved in the next "Mortal Kombat." WB is apparently interested in rebooting the franchise, and they're talking to Oren Uziel about writing it, Bloody-Disgusting reports. Uziel doesn't have a feature credit yet, but his script for "Shimmer Lake" was marked as one of last year's Black List titles, a round-up of the most bafflingly unproduced pitches of the year.

I certainly wouldn't be averse to seeing more "Mortal Kombat" on the big screen. The originals were astoundingly cheesy,...

Mortal Kombat Getting A Reboot?
For quite awhile now there’s been speculation and talk about another Mortal Kombat movie to follow the entertaining first one and the abysmal (but still fun ) sequel. The last we heard on that front was word from Chris Casamassa (who played Scorpion in the first Mortal Kombat movie) that a third movie was on the way. However, that was back in July and at that time he said he was set to start shooting another Mortal Kombat last September. Well, September has come and gone and here we are, sans Mortal Kombat 3.

The guys over at Bloody-Disgusting have received word straight from Warner Bros. that the Mortal Kombat franchise is getting the reboot treatment, with a writer already attached in the form of Oren Uziel. Uziel hasn’t written anything that’s been made, but his Shimmer Lake screenplay did land on Hollywood’s 2009 black list, which features the...

Why The New ‘Mortal Kombat’ Film Will Suck
If there’s going to be a new ‘Mortal Kombat’ movie, chances are it’s going to suck something awful. First off let me say that the news every nerd outlet is grabbing onto isn’t really news. I’ve been reading about this Chris Casamassa talking about being in a new ‘Mortal Kombat’ film since ‘Mortal Kombat Annihilation’ hit the gaming consoles years ago.

But, if it is true, the fact Chris Casamassa knows anything about it is proof it’s destined to fail. This is not 1996. Since then we’ve had a strong shift in what we expect from our martial arts films, and I don’t think karate instructors from California who doubled as Batman in the worst comic book film ever put on the big screen is a way to even approach this concept.

When you think of martial arts in films, I think we all...

Are They Making Mortal Kombat 3?
Ever heard of Chris Casamassa? Probably not, but you may have seen him. He’s the martial arts master who played the role of Scorpion in the first Mortal Kombat movie and in a few episodes of Mortal Kombat: Conquest, the TV series.

Fortunately, he wasn’t part of the terrible sequel, titled Annihilation. Come to think of it, the vast majority of the cast didn’t make it back for the sequel…

Well, Casamassa will be back as Scorpion again… in another Mortal Kombat movie. Who knew?

Alex over at First Showing picked up on a story by the Sgv Tribune where they interviewed the martial artist/actor. Casamassa, who now instructs and is the president of Red Dragon Karate, revealed that he’s set to start shooting a third Mortal Kombat film this September. It was seemingly a general comment and they didn’t go into it at...

‘Mortal Kombat 3′ Movie In The Works
By Josh Wigler

From MTV Movies Blog: After the divisive first “Mortal Kombat” film and its subsequently messy sequel “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation,” it felt like a foregone conclusion that the video game franchise had received it’s final film fatality. A new rumor floating around on the Interwebs is suggesting that a third movie could happen sooner than you can shout “Get over here!”

In an interview with the Sgv Tribune, martial artist Chris Casamassa, who played Scorpion in the first two movies, said that he’ll be on hand when the third installment in the franchise starts shooting this September. The remark is offered rather off-handedly, and could be completely off-base for all I know. Still, the possibilities of another “Mortal Kombat” film certainly get the wheels turning.

Read on about the new “Mortal Kombat” movie at MoviesBlog.MTV.com.

Is There A New ‘Mortal Kombat’ In The Works? Scorpion Says Yes

For one, Warner Bros. recently acquired Midway Games, the very company that created the “Mortal Kombat” franchise. That presumably puts the film rights in the WB’s hands.

New ‘Mortal Kombat’ Could Begin Shooting in September
Hard to believe it’s been 16 years since The Immortals released their theme song to ‘Mortal Kombat.’  Arcades across America were filled with teens and pre-teens screaming ‘Mortal Kombat!’ at the top of their lungs just before they knocked Johnny Cage’s head literally off his shoulders.  Now, after two theatrical feature films, an animated feature film released straight to VHS, a short-lived TV series, and even an animated series, a third film in the ‘Mortal Kombat’ franchise is looking to get underway.  What’s more, it seems production is set to begin as soon as this coming September. The news comes as a short snippet from an article in the Sgv Tribune based out of San Gabriel Valley, California.  The article is about Chris Casamassa, a Karate instructor who played Scorpion in the 1995 first feature film and the 1997 sequel.  As an Fyi, and just to put the cap on...

Scorpion Says Mortal Kombat 3 Filming in September
According to the guy who played Scorpion in the last two “Mortal Kombat” movies, filming on “Mortal Kombat 3″ is gearing up for September 2009. Then again, this is coming from the mouth of Chris Casamassa to a local paper, so who knows if there is any validity to it. Maybe he actually meant he would be playing the MK3 game in September? Well probably not, but you know, I’ll believe it when the trades announce it. Until then, this is from SGVTribune.com (via): According to Casamassa, he’s set to start filming the third Mortal Kombat film in September. Well, that’s it. Casamassa says it, so it must be true. Sort of. As previously reported, Warner Bros. has just recently bought up all of Midway Games’ titles (Mk being one of them), so it’s almost a sure bet that a MK3 will happen, it’s just a matter of when.

Is Another Mortal Kombat Film in the Works?
Is another popular video game slated for another film adaptation? According to one of the stars of the first film, it appears so. Sgv Tribune spoke with Chris Casamassa, who portrayed Scorpion in the first Mortal Kombat film, who revealed he's coming back for a third film.

It is quite possible this is happening, since Warner Bros. recently purchased Midway Games, which created the original video game franchise, and the deal included the studio rights to such properties as Mortal Kombat, Spy Hunter, Joust and many others.

Casamassa also revealed that filming was set to start in September. We'll be sure to keep you posted on any and all details regarding a third Mortal Kombat film.

'Mortal Kombat 3' Supposedly Filming in September
A third "Mortal Kombat" movie reportedly is on the work. In an article by the Sgv Tribune, former "Mortal Kombat" actor Chris Casamassa spilled the bean that the latest movie of the series that were adapted from the popular '90s fighting games will start its principal photography in September.

According to the actor who portrays human ninja named Scorpion in the original "Mortal Kombat" movie, he is also tapped to take a part in the third film. Though so, it is still unclear whether he will return to reprise his dead warrior role since he was replaced in its sequel "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" due to scheduling conflicts with "Batman & Robin".

Back in 2007, there were words that "Mortal Kombat" will be getting a reboot treatment with "Mortal Kombat: Devastation". At the time, it was stressed that the new movie won't be "a prequel, sequel, or in any form be related...

Mortal Kombat 3 Filming in September?
It's been a while since we've heard anything about a new Mortal Kombat movie. Back in September of last year, director Christopher 'mink' Morrison told moviehole that they were still trying to find the money before going ahead with Mortal Kombat 3 (or whatever it will likely be titled). And then there is that pesky lawsuit filed by film producer Larry Kasanoff (Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) and his production company Threshold Entertainment against Midway Games alleging intellectual property claims to the Mortal Kombat franchise. But somehow all pending lawsuits filed against Midway were magically "resolved" last week, right before the court gave Warner Bros the okay to acquire Midway. We assume this means out of court settlements. But does this mean that a new Mortal Kombat film is closer to reality? FirstShowing has discovered an article in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune where 44-year-old eighth-degree black belt Chris Casamassa...

Rumor: Another Mortal Kombat Movie Shooting This Year?!
Wait, when did this happen? Yesterday, Warner Bros announced that they had bought most of Midway Games' assets, the big video game corporation responsible for a number of hit games, including Mortal Kombat. It was big news, but no details were disclosed, so no one really cared. Earlier tonight I was sent over a link to an article in the Sgv Tribune, a newspaper out of California. In it, they talk with former actor and karate teacher Chris Casamassa, who played Scorpion in the original two Mortal Kombat movies. "According to Casamassa, he's set to start filming the third Mortal Kombat film in September." Really? That statement just comes out of nowhere. They mention that he starred in the Mortal Kombat movies and then they have this quote. "Now I do maybe one film a year because I'm helping my dad run our company and it's kind of a full-time job,...

Scorpion Confirms Mortal Kombat 3 Movie
Warner Bros recently announced that it has picked up most of Midway Games' assets in bankruptcy court, giving the studio rights to "Mortal Kombat," "Spy Hunter," "Joust" and several other game franchises. What Warners was planning to do with the properties was unknown. Now, actor Chris Casamassa tells Sgv Tribune that he's set to start filming the third "Mortal Kombat" film in September. The 44-year-old eighth-degree black belt previously played the Scorpion character in the original "Mortal Kombat," but was replaced in the sequel. And while Casamassa confirmed the new movie, he did not mention that he would reprise his role. So there's still a chance that Warner Bros may not be looking to simply bring back the original cast from the 1995 "Mortal Kombat" movie. Click here to read more about "Mortal Kombat."...
