Both “The Cleaning Lady” and “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” have been canceled at Fox, Variety has learned.

“The Cleaning Lady” had aired four seasons at the broadcast network, while “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” had aired three. Both shows wrapped up with their respective season finales in the past two weeks.

Fox announced their fall schedule going into their upfront presentation to advertisers in May, with both “Cleaning Lady” and “Alert” in limbo at that time. The two shows now join fellow Fox drama “Rescue: Hi-Surf” on the chopping block.

Previously, Fox gave out massive four-season renewals for “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers” and “Family Guy,” while also bringing “American Dad” back to the network. The medical drama “Doc” has also been renewed for a second season, while Fox has picked up the one-hour comedy “Best Medicine,” dramatic thriller “Memory of a Killer,” and the multi-part scripted event “The Faithful.”

The future of The Cleaning Lady at Fox has been revealed. The series will be returning for a fourth season, but it will notably come with a change in creative leadership.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, The Cleaning Lady has been renewed for Season 4. However, executive producers and showrunners Miranda Kwok and Jeannine Renshaw are stepping down from those positions. Kwok will reportedly stay on board as an executive consultant with plans to put more focus into new program development with Warner Bros. Television. The studio is now searching for a new showrunner to take charge of The Cleaning Lady starting with Season 4.

This marks a reunion for Orton-Cortez and fellow former lit agents-turned-managers von Goetz and Robins Early who worked together for a decade at ICM Partners prior to the agency’s acquisition by CAA last year when von Goetz and Robins Early left and teamed with Williams to launch Adventure.

The Cleaning Lady has brought intrigue, action, and romance since it debuted on Fox in 2022.

The addicting crime drama was developed by Miranda Kwok and followed Thony De La Rhosa’s struggles in Las Vegas. Her young son had a rare blood disorder, and she couldn’t afford treatment unless she worked for the mob and they helped her.

During The Cleaning Lady Season 2, Thony grew even deeper into the crime world to save Luca, but that had severe consequences. While it was sometimes frustrating to see her make those mistakes and see others pay for them, we’re eager to see what’s next for everyone.

Luckily, Fox renewed The Cleaning Lady for a third season in February 2023.

Behind the scenes, it will mark a new chapter for the series as Jeanine Renshaw will join creator Miranda Kwok as co-showrunner, helming the crime drama series alongside her. Hello Miranda and Melissa. It's an honor to talk to you both. I'm a huge fan. So, the Cleaning Lady Season 2 finale ended with a bang. This season seemed a lot darker, especially for Thony as she tried to find medication for Luca.

Was that your intent to make her darker, even if she alienated some allies in the process?

Melissa: We wanted to show that you can't get involved with crime without it affecting even if the reasons are good.

Season 2 of The Cleaning Lady came to a close Monday night with a two-part finale that killed two key characters and left Thony (Elodie Yung) to pick up the pieces.

Exclusive: Miranda Kwok, developer and executive producer of Fox’s drama series The Cleaning Lady, has been promoted to showrunner alongside executive producer/showrunner Melissa Carter, who will remain in her post under a new overall deal she signed with series producer Warner Bros TV several months ago. The shift from one to two showrunners will take place at the beginning of production on episode 207 of the drama’s upcoming second season.

Kwok’s promotion follows a natural progression for creators with limited prior experience who land a series on the air. When she created The Cleaning Lady based on the Argentinian format La Chica Que Limpia, Kwok had been on Wbtv-produced The 100 for four years, rising to supervising producer, having been a staff writer on Spartacus: Blood & Sand before that.

But when Élodie Yung nabbed the role, the show’s producers and writers had to reconsider their approach to representation and authenticity. Not only did they change the character’s background to match Yung — who is of Cambodian and French descent – but they also asked Yung for her personal input.

Fox on Thursday officially renewed the hit drama for a second season, citing strong ratings across all platforms.

The Cleaning Lady Season 1 averaged 5.2 million viewers and a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49 in live + 7 results, placing #3 behind 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Paramount Plus announced that the animated series “Big Nate” will debut early next year. The series is from Nickelodeon Animation Studio and is based on the children’s books and comic strip written and drawn by Lincoln Peirce.

Fox has shared trailers for its new comedies and dramas for the 2021-22 TV season, including the Scott Foley-led “The Big Leap” and Paul Feig’s “Welcome to Flatch.”

The trailers were unveiled at the network’s annual upfront presentation to advertisers on Monday, alongside information about returning favorites “9-1-1,” “The Masked Singer” and “The Resident.”
