Federal Appeals Court Refuses To Reconsider Donald Trump’s $5 Million Loss To E. Jean Carroll For Sexual Abuse
Image
A federal appeals court has denied Donald Trump’s request to reconsider the $5 million verdict won by journalist E. Jean Carroll against him.

In an 8-2 vote, the second U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Trump’s petition for the full appellate court to reconsider claims in his challenge to the jury’s finding that he sexually abused Carroll and defamed her with remarks he made in October 2022.

The $5 million verdict included $2.98 million for defamation as well as $2.02 million for sexual assault.

Carroll testified at a 2023 trial that the president assaulted her in a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan during an encounter in the 1990s.

A three-judge panel of the appeals court upheld the verdict in December 2024, denying Trump’s claims that trial Judge Lewis A. Kaplan’s decisions damaged the trial.

In an opinion made public on Friday, Judges Myrna Pérez, Eunice C.

Bob Iger & Willow Bay’s Angel City F.C. Has Something To Say About L.A. Ice Raids As Disney, Other Studios & Most Teams Stay Silent
Image
As more Ice raids hit Los Angeles this Juneteenth holiday, the Bob Iger and Willow Bay-owned Angel City Fc has taken a stand for immigrants while most others have remained silent and afraid of the Donald Trump administration.

Less than a year after Iger and spouse Bay dropped around $100 million to became the controlling owners in the $250 million-valued National Women’s Soccer League team, Acfc has come out in strong opposition to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions in L.A. and waved the flag proudly for “Immigrant City.”

While individual stars and showrunners have been vocal in their opposition the past few weeks to cruel Ice raids in L.A. and Trump deploying thousands of troops in the City of Angels, studios, streamers, social media platforms, many sports teams and other Hollywood corporations have been as quiet as church mice. Today the feds have swarmed Dodger Stadium,...

Terry Moran Defends His Trump-Stephen Miller Social Media Post That Led To ABC News Exit: “It Was Something That Was In My Heart And Mind”
Image
Terry Moran said that his controversial social media post, in which he labeled Donald Trump and his aide Stephen Miller each as a “world class hater,” was not a “drunk tweet” and “something that was in my heart and mind.”

Speaking to the Bulwark’s Tim Miller on Monday, Moran said that “you don’t sacrifice your citizenship as a journalist, and your job is not to be objective. There is no Mount Olympus of objectivity where a Mandarin class of wise people have no feelings about their society. We’re all in this together. What you have to be is fair and accurate, and I would refer to the interview with the president that I did, or a lot of my work. And I would also say that this, while very hot, is an observation, a description that was accurate and true.”

At 12:06 a.m. on June 8, Moran posted on X,...

President Donald Trump earned money in 2024 from a variety of sources, including luxury properties and royalty payments and licensing earnings for the use of his name and likeness last year, and big bucks from his crypto venture with World Liberty Financial, to the tune of more than $57 million, according to the required Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure report filed on June 13.

Trump debuted the cryptocurrency platform World Liberty Financial in September, and it’s a family affair: it’s controlled by his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump...

Terry Moran Fired From ABC News After Comment about Stephen Miller
Image
ABC News has officially parted ways with senior national correspondent Terry Moran, two days after suspending him for controversial remarks made about former White House adviser Stephen Miller.

Moran, who served as a senior national correspondent and anchor for ABC News Live, faced suspension after posting comments on the social media platform X, labeling Miller a “world-class hater.” Moran subsequently deleted the post.

According to the THR an ABC spokesperson said,

“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran, and based on his recent post—which was a clear violation of ABC News policies—we have made the decision not to renew. At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness, and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”

ABC claims it “does not condone subjective personal attacks on others.”

Moran joined ABC News in 1997 after working at Court TV.

Terry Moran Out at ABC News
Image
ABC News correspondent Terry Moran has been let go from the network.

The decision comes two days after ABC suspended Moran, the network’s senior national correspondent and an anchor for ABC News Live, over an X post about White House adviser Stephen Miller. In that post, which he lated deleted, Moran referred to Miller as a “world-class hater.”

“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies — we have made the decision to not renew,” an ABC News spokesperson said. “At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”

In suspending Moran — which happened after White House officials publicly demanded action from the network — ABC News said it “does not condone subjective personal attacks on others.

Terry Moran Out at ABC News Following Social-Media Clash With Trump White House
Image
Terry Moran is leaving ABC News, just days after being suspended for posting a broadside at Trump official Stephen Miller and the Trump White House on the X social-media platform.

“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies — we have made the decision to not renew,” ABC News said in a statement Tuesday. “At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”

Moran, who had been one of ABC News’ top national correspondents, on early Sunday went to X and wrote that Miller is “one of the people who conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy,” and operates not on “brains” but on “bile.” He added that Miller was “a world-class hater.

Trump Military Parade May Not Get Much Coverage on CBS, NBC, ABC
Image
Does a parade meant to celebrate the nation truly exist if it can’t get on national broadcast TV?

Mainstream TV-news outlets seem divided over how to cover an extravagant display of military might along the streets of Washington, D.C. from the Trump administration. A June 14 parade and accompanying festivities meant to call attention to the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army will be something to see, with three kinds of helicopters; Bradley vehicles; a fireworks display; and a parachute jump by the Golden Knights demonstration team.

Some will give the event a mere nod, while others will utilize all the resources a national TV newsroom can muster.

ABC News, NBC News and CBS News are unlikely to pre-empt regular TV programming for coverage of the event, according to people familiar with their plans. ABC News plans to “cover the parade across programs and platforms, including 24/7 streaming news channel...

ABC News suspended its senior national correspondent, Terry Moran, after he called White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller a “world-class hater” in a since-deleted post on X.

ABC News said that it has suspended senior national correspondent Terry Moran over a late night X post, since deleted, attacking Trump administration official Stephen Miller as a “world class hater.”

Paramount Offers Millions To Trump To End $20B ‘60 Minutes’ Suit & Let Skydance Merger Go Through
Image
Donald Trump and Paramount don’t have a deal yet to settle Potus’ months-old $20 billion 60 Minutes lawsuit, but the Shari Redstone-ruled media company has put some serious millions on the table in the hopes to make this roadblock to a merger with Skydance disappear.

“It’s very early days,” a source close to talks between Trump’s lawyers and Paramount’s attorneys and execs tells Deadline. “An opening offer has been made, but more negotiations are underway,” the source confirmed. But they would not go into specifics beyond saying, “Right now, it’s an eight-figure discussion.”

In the waning days of last year’s bitter election, Trump went after longtime foil CBS over the way that its 60 Minutes had edited a wide-ranging interview with Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

Asking for a headline-grabbing $20 billion, the Hail Mary action alleged violations of Texas’ Deceptive Trade Practices Act, which typically is used...

Has ’60 Minutes’ Run Out of Time? Shari Redstone’s Painful Predicament
Image
That ticking noise that begins every 60 Minutes segment? Turns out that’s not a stopwatch. It’s a time bomb.

At least that’s how it’s sounding lately, like the illustrious citadel of American broadcast journalism is on the brink of blowing up. Last night, in the latest shudder suggesting an imminent explosion, correspondent Scott Pelley ended the show with a “Last Minute” segment that all but declared open rebellion against 60 Minutes’ corporate overlords at Paramount and raised a fist in solidarity with longtime executive producer Bill Owens, who just days earlier had bolted CBS in protest over what he called editorial meddling by management.

“No one here is happy about it,” Pelley informed viewers, perched on a stool before a backdrop of the program’s iconic ticking timepiece. “But in resigning, Bill proved one thing — he was the right person to lead 60 Minutes all along.”

Watch ’60 Minutes’ Call Out Paramount’s Editorial Interference in On-Air Rebuke After EP’s Departure
Image
On April 22, Bill Owens, only the third executive producer of “60 Minutes” in its 57-year history, abruptly resigned from his position, citing editorial interference from management at CBS. And now, the news magazine itself has aired a stinging rebuke of that interference, delivered on-air by host Scott Pelley as the closing segment of its April 27 broadcast.

The network’s parent company, Paramount, has been trying to clear the way with the Trump administration’s Department of Justice for its Skydance merger. Following Trump’s lawsuit against “60 Minutes” for what the now-President and his attorneys had suggested, with little basis, was a flattering edit to a 2024 interview with his opponent Kamala Harris, Paramount appears to have become worried it might not be smooth sailing for the merger after all.

Therefore, in January, CBS introduced a new layer of management to add extra supervision in vetting stories across CBS News’ portfolio of shows.

Paramount, Trump Agree on Mediator for President’s $20 Billion ‘60 Minutes’ Lawsuit (Report)
Image
Lawyers for Paramount Global and President Donald Trump have agreed on a mediator to pursue a settlement in a lawsuit filed by Trump against CBS — demanding $20 billion in damages — over a “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris, the New York Times reported.

Paramount declined to comment. A lawyer for Trump did not respond to a request for comment. The Times report, which cited anonymous sources, did not identify the mediator.

The Texas federal court hearing the case said in a Feb. 20 scheduling order that “Any mediation must be completed by Saturday, December 20, 2025.”

Trump sued CBS a few days before the November 2024 presidential election, alleging that CBS News’ “60 Minutes” report violated a Texas consumer protection law by deceptively editing an interview with VP Kamala Harris. Earlier this year, the president expanded the lawsuit, alleging an additional claim under the federal Lanham Act and seeking at least $20 billion in damages.

Last month,...

Jon Stewart Aghast at Trump’s 3rd Term Comments: ‘Are You Trying to Order Off Menu From the Constitution?’ | Video
Image
There’s not a lot that shocks Jon Stewart, but Donald Trump’s musings about potentially serving a third term as president have made the cut. After repeatedly floating the idea, Trump clarified on Sunday that he’s “not joking.”

“I’m sorry — considering the options? Are you trying to order off menu from the Constitution?” Stewart asked Monday night on “The Daily Show.”

During an interview with NBC News, the sitting president said, “There are methods which you could do it.” One of those, which has been floated, would be to urge his Vice President, Jd Vance, to run for president and then cede his power back to Trump. He further stated there were additional methods, but did not elaborate.

“Yes, there are other methods. I think you tried one a few years ago,” Stewart said, alluding to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. “There are other...

Trump's FCC Targets Disney in Continued Dei Hunt
Image
The Trump administration's crosshairs are officially back on Disney. Earlier this year, the Federal Communications Commission announced its plans to start investigating Comcast and Verizon in its ongoing, wide-ranging crackdown on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (Dei) practices. Now, FCC chairman Brendan Carr is "putting the finishing touches" on a letter to the House of Mouse that, as he told Punchbowl News, will open a similar probe into their operations. The announcement comes a month after shareholders at the company turned down a proposal that would have curbed Dei efforts and just days after Carr threatened to block mergers and acquisitions in the media if the companies don't live up to the administration's standards.

Exact initiatives that could be targeted at the ABC parent company have thus far not been identified, but Carr has said the investigation will concern "whether they’re engaged in any of this sort of Dei discrimination...

White House Celebrates St. Paddy’s Day With Fighter Found Guilty of Civil Rape

Donald Trump celebrated St. Patrick’s Day on Monday by inviting Irish UFC star Conor McGregor to the White House. McGregor has long been the subject of controversy, and just a few months ago was found liable for rape in a civil case in Ireland.

Trump lauded McGregor last week when he was asked to name his favorite Irish person while taking questions alongside the nation’s prime minister, Micheál Martin, at the White House. “I do happen to like your fighter,” he said. “He’s got the best tattoos I’ve ever seen.

Michael Wolff: Trump Scared the News Networks Into Banning My Book (Guest Column)
Image
In the days before my book Fire and Fury was published in 2018, Donald Trump threatened me with pretty much whatever he could: prior restraint, libel suits and ever-more invective. At that time, this was looked at by me along with my publisher and lawyers, and the general media community, as ludicrous posturing. The barriers to prior restraint certainly seemed all but insurmountable and the idea that you could libel a sitting president nonsensical. John Sargent, the CEO of Macmillan, the publisher of my book, issued a blistering rejection of the White House’s efforts at coercion. I was welcomed by nearly every media outlet to continue my so-called libel against the president, and the book went on to sell 5 million copies worldwide. My two subsequent books about the Trump administration, Siege and Landslide, enjoyed that similar combination of Trump ire and media attention (and, with typical Trump inconsistency, a dinner...

Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan receive backlash amid GMA layoffs
George Stephanopoulos
A shakeup affected many people at Good Morning America and GMA3, and George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, and Michael Strahan have some individuals furious at them for what occurred.

The latest rumors arrived after a report hit last week that ABC News would lay off dozens of staffers from GMA and GMA3.

The same report revealed that ABC’s two programs would merge into one production unit.

ABC News is reportedly looking to improve overall numbers as traditional television is declining, and online media has become the norm for individuals to view content.

There was no mention that Robin, Michael, or George were affected by the recent layoffs or changes beyond losing personnel who assisted with making the show happen.

However, an insider claims that many people are upset with the trio of GMA anchors because of their salaries.

An insider revealed there’s ‘a lot of resentment’ towards GMA stars

According to The U.S. Sun,...

Gb News Wins Landmark Legal Battle With UK Media Regulator Ofcom Over Trump Report
Image
Gb News has won a landmark legal battle with UK media regulator Ofcom over a report by presenter Jacob Rees-Mogg about Donald Trump.

In a High Court ruling, a judge found that Ofcom was unlawful in determining that Gb News breached broadcasting rules in two separate editions of Mogg’s State Of The Nation show.

Ofcom argued that Mogg, a former Conservative minister, veered into newsreader territory when telling viewers in May 2023 that a jury had found Donald Trump guilty of sexually assaulting writer E. Jean Carroll.

The regulator said this, and a separate report on Valdo Calocane killing three people in Nottingham, constituted a breach of rule 5.3 of the UK broadcasting code, which states: “No politician may be used as a newsreader, interviewer or reporter in any news programmes unless, exceptionally, it is editorially justified.”

In reaching this conclusion, Ofcom ruled last March that State Of The Nation could...

SNL Called Out 50 Years Of Poorly Aged Sketches, But They Didn't Go Hard Enough
Image
When Tom Hanks took the stage late during last night's 50th anniversary celebration of "Saturday Night Live," he appeared to be headed into somber territory. The lights were dimmed to blue, his tone was reverent and, as he worked into his prepared comments, the subject one that hits so very close to home for the show's alumni and friends. "As we celebrate the achievements of the past 50 years," he said, "We must also take a moment to honor those we've lost. Countless members of the 'SNL' community taken too soon." Hanks paused briefly for effect, then continued. "I'm speaking, of course, about 'SNL' characters that have aged horribly."

No comedic institution can last 50 years without finding the third rail on occasion. For "SNL," a sketch comedy series both emerged from and tore apart 1960s counterculture humor, jolting viewers with gasp-inducing gags that seemed to fly under...

George Stephanopoulos Rumored To Be Leaving ABC News After Humiliating Apology In Trump Defamation Lawsuit & Fight With David Muir
Image
In the wake of a defamation suit with Donald Trump, Good Morning America news anchor George Stephanopoulos is reportedly “miserable” at his job.

It has been rumored that Stephanopoulos is not expected to stay at GMA much longer following the network parent company Disney’s December 2024 agreement to pay Trump a $16 million settlement in a defamation lawsuit.

The lawsuit came in response to Stephanopoulos’ on-air comment that Trump was “found liable for rape” in the lawsuit by journalist E. Jean Carroll. Trump insisted that legally the correct phrasing is “sexual abuse,” and that Stephanopoulos propagated the “lie” with “malice” and purposeful disregard for the truth.

In the interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina), Stephanopoulos disregarded the network’s warning forbidding the use of the word ‘rape’ on air and instead pushed Mace to justify supporting Trump with her personal history of sexual assault.

He pressed her, “I’m asking you a question,...

‘60 Minutes’ Staffers Urged to Keep Show Ticking as Paramount Tangles With Trump
Image
Staffers at “60 Minutes” urged one another to keep the venerable CBS newsmagazine going even as corporate parent Paramount Global investigates the possibility of settling what is seen as a flimsy lawsuit tied to a report that ran on the show.

Speaking during a meeting held Monday, both correspondents Scott Pelley and Anderson Cooper cautioned an assemblage of employees who work for the Sunday-night mainstay against letting the lawsuit tear the show apart and distract people from the journalism is presents each week, according to a person familiar with the matter.

CBS News declined to make executives available for comment.

Employees at the Paramount Global unit have grown increasingly wary of Paramount’s willingness to consider settling the matter, according to people familiar with conversations taking place, seeing such efforts as a move to keep the looming acquisition of the company by Skydance Media on track, rather than supporting honest newsgathering.

Who Will Stand Up to Trump’s Broligarchs?
Image
Elon Musk’s raised-arm salute to Donald Trump drew more attention, but for those concerned about media freedom, another image from Inauguration Day seemed just as chilling. In the front row of the Capitol rotunda, a who’s who of tech billionaires — Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Musk himself — lined up to cheer in the new commander-in-chief.

Also showing their support, seated a bit farther back, were Apple CEO Tim Cook, Sam Altman of OpenAI and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew (later on Jan. 20, Trump issued an executive order delaying a federal ban on the Chinese-owned social media platform).

“Big Tech billionaires have a front row seat at Trump’s inauguration. They have even better seats than Trump’s own cabinet picks. That says it all,” noted Massachusetts Sen. Elisabeth Warren on Musk’s X, suggesting we were watching what Joe Biden,...

Anchors Away: TV-News Veterans Exit Ahead of Ratings Challenges, Digital Change in 2025
Image
For TV-news outlets, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of out with the old and in with the….who?

With the economics of newsgathering less certain as info-hounds move to streaming and social media for their early facts, traditional TV-news venues have been parting ways with veteran anchors and correspondents. Whether the decisions are mutual or unilateral, amicable or adverse, they will leave places such as NBC News, MSNBC, Fox News, CBS News and CNN with fewer of some of their most recognizable faces at a point in the business cycle when viewership tends to narrow.

Hoda Kotb is taking a final lap this week at NBC’s “Today,” after deciding to leave the show and spend more time with her young children. Andrea Mitchell will this month sign off from the MSNBC program she has anchored since 2008, opting to work her reporting roles more heavily. Norah O’Donnell will...

Trump’s Media Censorship Arsenal Is Growing
Image
In legal circles, it wasn’t the monetary figure in Disney’s $15 million deal to resolve defamation claims from President-elect Donald Trump that was surprising, or even the fact that the network settled at all. It was the timing.

Disney opted to dispose of the case before trying its luck on summary judgment, a routine step in civil litigation in which the court evaluates evidence and the merit of claims to decide whether a trial is necessary. ABC News had a strong case. Though he said E. Jean Carroll wasn’t raped within the “narrow technical meaning” of the term, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan made clear that the verdict didn’t mean that the writer “failed to prove that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word.” He underscored, “The jury found that Mr. Trump in fact did exactly that.”

The court could’ve decided that Trump,...

Trump Loses Appeal, Still Owes E. Jean Carroll Millions of Dollars
Image
President-elect Donald Trump lost an appeal today of the $5 million verdict that E. Jean Carroll won. A jury found last year that he was liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her when the allegations became public.

Carroll, a former magazine columnist, alleged that Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in 1996. The trial also involved a 2022 Truth Social post where Trump called the allegations a hoax.

In the federal court verdict from a three judge panel, jurors found that Trump did not commit rape, but...

Federal Appeals Court Upholds Sexual Abuse And Defamation Verdict Against Donald Trump In E. Jean Carroll Case
Image
A federal appeals court has affirmed a jury’s $5 million sexual abuse and defamation verdict against Donald Trump, rejecting the president-elect’s effort for a new trial in the case brought by writer E. Jean Carroll.

“On review of abuse of discretion, we conclude that Mr. Trump has not demonstrated that the district court erred in any of the challenged rulings,” the three appellate judges wrote. “Further, he has not carried his burden to show that any claimed error or combination claimed errors affected his substantial rights as required to warrant a new trial.”

A jury in 2023 found that Trump sexually abused Carroll in an incident at the Bergdorf-Goodman department store in 1996. The jury also found that Trump defamed her in statements he made in 2022, and awarded Carroll $5 million in damages.

Read the Trump appeals court decision.

Trump has denied Carroll’s claims, and he is likely to appeal.

Incoming FCC Chairman Brendan Carr Sends Letter To Disney’s Bob Iger Referencing ABC’s Donald Trump Settlement And Low Media Trust
Image
The incoming chairman of the FCC has fired off a letter to Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger referencing ABC’s recent settlement of a defamation lawsuit filed by Donald Trump, while also decrying the overall decline in public trust in the media, according to CNN.

But Brendan Carr’s letter got into other issues, including retransmission consent and affiliate negotiations and its impact on localism, CNN’s Brian Stelter reported.

ABC recently agreed to pay $15 million to Trump’s presidential foundation and library and $1 million in legal fees to settle a libel lawsuit over comments that George Stephanopoulos made on This Week in March.

A spokesperson for Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Carr has previously pointed to polls showing Americans have a low trust in media, suggesting that the FCC could have a role in the issue. But the agency is limited by the...

George Stephanopoulos Sets New Deal at ABC News Amid Blowback Over Trump Settlement Agreement
Image
Longtime ABC News star George Stephanopoulos has reached a new deal that will keep him at ABC News and as an anchor on “Good Morning America” for the near term.

The news should end speculation that the well-paid Stephanopolous was on his way out as the Disney-owned network, along with every news organization, looks to trim the high overhead of pricey talent deals. An industry source with knowledge of the deal said the length of the extension was shorter than a typical on-air talent pact — which is another sign of the times for the TV news business. A source close to the situation said the deal was in the works well before the network reached a $15 million legal settlement with lawyers for President-elect Donald Trump over a libel claim involving Stephanopoulos. Stephanopoulos is known to have been surprised and angered by the settlement that includes an apology for an instance...

Disney’s Settlement With Donald Trump: Bob Iger’s $16 Million Decision, Fear at ABC News and Questions About George Stephanopoulos’ Future
Image
On the eve of a jury trial in June 2017, Disney settled a defamation lawsuit brought by a beef company for a whopping $177 million. The case stemmed from a series of ABC News reports in 2012 fronted by star anchor Diane Sawyer that dubbed the processed meat “pink slime.” At the time, it marked the largest settlement or jury award ever for a libel case and has since been eclipsed only by Alex Jones ($1.438 billion to Sandy Hook families) and Fox News ($787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems).

Fast forward to 2024, and George Stephanopoulos is now the face of ABC News and one of the highest-paid anchors on TV, making up to $18 million per year. And inside Disney’s C-suites on the Burbank lot, there was a feeling of déjà vu thanks to a looming defamation lawsuit filed in March by former and incoming President Donald Trump, a far more powerful and strident...

‘It’s Frightening’: ABC News Staffers Incensed by ‘Capitulation’ to Trump
Image
In July of 2023, New York Judge Lewis Kaplan issued a clarification in the civil cases brought by author E. Jean Carroll against President-elect Donald Trump. A New York jury had ruled in May of that year that Trump was liable for sexual abuse and defamation against Carroll. According to New York criminal law, “rape” is narrowly defined as non-consenual vaginal penetration by a penis, and all other forceful acts of sexual assault are referred to as “sexual abuse.”

“The finding that Ms. Carroll failed to prove that she was ‘raped...

Donald Trump Sues Iowa Pollster And Des Moines Register Over Pre-Election Poll
Image
Donald Trump has filed his lawsuit against Iowa pollster Ann Selzer, the Des Moines Register and Gannett, claiming they engaged in “election interference” with a poll published just before the election showing that Kamala Harris was ahead in the state by three points.

Trump’s lawsuit, filed in Polk County, claims fraud and violation of the Iowa Consumer Fraud Act, according to FoxNews.com, which first reported that the lawsuit was filed late Monday.

Trump won the state by more than 13 percentage points, but he has attacked Selzer since then.

Polls are snapshots of a particular moment during a campaign, and Selzer and the Des Moines Register have done extensive post-mortems on their methodology and whether the poll failed to capture late deciders.

Selzer has denied that the poll was an intentional effort to impact the election results.

Lark-Marie Anton, spokesperson for the Register, said in a statement, “We...

Trump Sues Iowa Newspaper Over Poll That Had Harris Winning State
Image
Donald Trump kicked off the week by declaring he wants to sue more newspapers, and on Monday night filed a civil lawsuit against the Des Moines Register and famed Iowa pollster J. Ann Selzer.

The lawsuit accuses Selzer, her polling company, the Register, and its parent company Gannett of engaging in “brazen election interference” over the publication of a poll shortly before November’s election which showed Trump lagging behind Harris by three points in the Hawkeye State. The pre-election poll from Selzer — a celebrated pollster who had accurately predicted...

George Stephanopoulos Deletes X Account After ABC News, Trump Lawsuit Settlement
Image
ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos deactivated his account on X, formerly Twitter, where he had more than 2.3 million followers.

Stephanopoulos’ account on Elon Musk-owned X (@GStephanopoulos) is no longer available, displaying a message that says, “This account doesn’t exist.” Stephanopoulos’ Instagram account remains active.

Stephanopoulos’ X account went dark at some point over the weekend, after ABC News settled a defamation lawsuit filed by Donald Trump against the network and Stephanopoulos over the anchor’s inaccurate comment in a March 2024 interview on ABC News’ “This Week” that “Donald Trump has been found liable for rape by a jury.” Stephanopoulos was referring to a jury’s verdict that found Trump had sexually abused the writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s.

Reps for Stephanopoulos and ABC News did not respond to requests for comment.

Under the settlement between Trump and Disney-owned ABC News, which was revealed Saturday, the network...

Donald Trump, Following ABC Settlement, Says He’ll File More Lawsuits Against Media, Including Iowa Pollster: “We Have To Straighten Out The Press”
Image
Updated, with Des Moines Register comment: Donald Trump vowed to file additional lawsuits against media outlets and media figures, just days after he settled his lawsuit against ABC in which the network agreed to contribute $15 million to his presidential foundation and library.

“We have to straighten out our press. Our press is very corrupt, almost as corrupt as our elections,” Trump told reporters today in a press conference.

Trump suggested that he would file a lawsuit against Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register, which published her poll, just days before the election, that showed Kamala Harris with a three-percentage point lead in the state. As it turned out, Trump won the state by more than 13 percentage points.

Trump claimed that the poll was “fraud” and “election interference.” “We’ll probably be filing a major lawsuit against them today or tomorrow,” he said.

Selzer, in an interview with a local PBS station last week,...

ABC Agrees to Pay $15 Million, Apologize in Trump Defamation Lawsuit Settlement
Image
ABC has settled a defamation lawsuit Donald Trump brought over anchor George Stephanopoulos’ inaccurate on-air description of Trump being civilly liable for sexually abusing and defaming E. Jean Carroll, which Stephanopoulos described as “rape,” The Associated Press reports. The network will pay $15 million, which will go toward Trump’s presidential library as part of the settlement. Stephanopoulos had wrongly stated in March that Trump had been “found liable for rape” and “defaming the victim of that rape” rather than sexual abuse during a live This Week interview.

ABC News settles Trump defamation case
Image

The Walt Disney Company’s broadcast news division has settled a defamation lawsuit brought by President-elect Donald Trump over errant comments made by an ABC News anchor earlier this year.

The lawsuit, filed in March, accused “This Week” anchor George Stephanopolous of defaming Trump by claiming that he had been found civilly liable for raping E. Jean Carroll, which misstated the lawsuits that were filed against him.

Trump was found guilty last year of sexual assault and defamation in the Carroll case. Legally, sexual assault and rape are separate legal offenses, which carry different penalties at the civil and criminal level. Trump has not been criminally charged with rape.

The judge in the Carroll case said she failed to prove that Trump raped her, but affirmed the jury’s conclusion that he still defamed her and was liable for sexual assault. Trump was ordered...

ABC News Settles Donald Trump’s Defamation Suit for $15 Million

“ABC shall cause a transfer in the amount of [$15 million] to be made to a presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for the Plaintiff,” reads the settlement. “The Charitable Contribution shall be made by Defendants within 10 calendar days of the Effective Date of this Agreement to an escrow account to be established by Plaitiff’s counsel.”

ABC News must also issue an apology statement “within one calendar day” of the settlement’s filing. The statement, which will be added as an editor’s note at the bottom of...

Image
ABC has agreed to contribute $15 million to Donald Trump’s presidential foundation and museum as part of a settlement reached in Trump’s defamation case against the network, according to a court filing today.

Trump sued the network earlier this year over remarks that This Week anchor George Stephanopoulos made during a contentious interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-Sc) in March.

The network also will publish a statement that will be attached to an online article on the show, saying that “ABC News and George Stephanopoulos regret statements regarding President Donald J. Trump made during an interview by George Stephanopoulos with Rep. Nancy Mace on ABC’s This Week on March 10, 2024.”

The network also will pay $1 million to Brito, Pllc, the law firm representing Trump.

Donald Trump Ordered To Sit For Deposition Next Week In His Defamation Lawsuit Against ABC
Image
Donald Trump has been ordered by a federal judge to sit for a deposition next week as part of his defamation litigation against ABC.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisette M. Reid wrote that the deposition should take place some time the week of Dec. 14 and should be limited to four hours. It also should be in person and take place in Miami, where the lawsuit was filed, she wrote.

Trump sued the network earlier this year over remarks that This Week anchor George Stephanopoulos made during a contentious interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-Sc) in March.

Reid also ordered that Stephanopoulos’ deposition also should take place next week, but that attorneys will determine whether the session will be remote or in person.

During the interview, Stephanopoulos said that “juries have found” Trump “liable for rape.” In a June ruling, a federal judge refused to dismiss the case.

Last year,...
