There has been an outpouring of love for Kelly Reichardt as of late, with the “Showing Up” helmer awarded a Carrosse d’Or at Cannes – only the fourth woman to be honored this way – and now a Pardo d’Onore Manor at Locarno.

But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the U.S. director, described by the Swiss festival as a “committed, political and independent auteur.”

“Things have gotten easier over time,” Reichardt tells Variety ahead of the event, looking back on her 28-year career.

“I have done a lot of work in the last two decades and I work in a similar kind of mode and budget size. People are familiar with my producers and know them to be very reliable people. I’m not having to prove myself at every outing.”

A man who says he was a Las Vegas bike cop and heard Tupac Shakur's last words reports that they were “F— you.” Chris Carroll says in an article his cousin, Sean DeFrank, wrote for the Vegas Seven weekly that he was a sergeant on the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's bike patrol unit on the Las Vegas Strip. Medibank has launched a campaign aimed at families that introduces the new tagline, ‘Everything in between’.

The agency behind the campaign was Whybin\Tbwa Group Melbourne, which won the account in June.

Sydney production company Essential Media and Entertainment has won Best Television Series at this year’s international Scinema Awards – a festival celebrating Science through film.

The documentary series – Voyage to the Planets – shows the solar system as a kind of travellers guide to the universe, and was described by the jury as a “visionary production exploring our closest neighbours, from a world leader in innovative and engaging factual filmmaking.”

The production company was among five other Australian winners including Best Short Film and Best Student Film.
