  • During his lean times he worked as a window dresser, a skill he had acquired as a young man in New Orleans.
  • Was a musician and singer, played both the guitar and saxophone.
  • Born and raised in New Orleans, Carr studied acting at the American Theatre Wing in New York.
  • Moved to New York after high school and began studying acting at the American Theatre Wing. He remained there for six years, during which time he worked in summer stock, Broadway plays, and live television.
  • Had a short stint in the Marine Corps in his late teens.
  • Made his acting debut in a play at the New Orleans Community Theatre in a Mardi Gras production of " A la Creole".
  • Died of complications from lung and brain cancer not long after celebrating his 72nd birthday.
  • Son of Elaine Grace Coulon, who was of Cajun (French) descent, and New Yorker Edward Sidney Zweigenhaft (Carr), who was in the publishing business.
  • Also wrote and directed. He directed a program in honor of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations and at one time headed the Play Committee of the L.A. Repertory Company. He was also involved in a group called "Video Playwrights", where he wrote and produced plays on video.
  • He and his wife Meryl once ran a health food business.
  • Attended Julliard School of Music for one summer during high school where he studied the clarinet.
  • Married thrice and divorced twice (remarried second wife).
  • Appeared in Just a Matter of Time (1978) making him one of two actors from the Star Trek franchise to appear in Just a Matter of Time (1978). John de Lancie appeared in numerous episode of Star Trek The Next Generation.
  • Began his career at age 17 working in numerous theater productions in his hometown of New Orleans.
  • Appeared in nearly 100 stage productions on Broadway, off-Broadway, and off-off-Broadway, as well as touring companies, stock, and in regional theaters around the country. He won a Los Angeles Weekly Award for Best Actor in the Theatre East production of "Manhattan Express" in 1987, and a 1995 Dramalogue Award for his portrayal of "Sam Byck" in the Los Angeles Repertory production of "Assassins".
  • Had two children, Alexandra and Christina, from his first marriage, and daughter Micah from his second.
