Dean Carey is an Australian-born actor, author, teacher, speaker, director and coach. He is the CEO, Founder and Creative Director of Actors Centre Australia, ACA Sydney P/L, established in 1987. He began his professional career in Melbourne in 1977 and for over 35 years has taught acting and performance skills.

Dean's expertise and passion for the craft has attracted actors such as Hugh Jackman (ACA's Patron), Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Rose Byrne, Naomi Watts and Colin Farrell among thousands of others who have all benefited from the creative culture and esteemed staff of ACA.

For almost four decades, Dean has been a stand for powerful and meaningful performance and for every actor to be able to explore, grow and be their best. He continues to be a stand for education in action: practical, positive, productive learning within an inspiring artistic environment. He is a stand for high-challenge/high-support mix for ongoing high-performance.

Dean Carey has taught acting in many countries including USA, UK, Russia, France, Brazil, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia-wide. He has been the Head of Acting at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (1990-1993) and NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) (1989) and Teacher for 12 years. He has been teacher and director for the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), the Australian, Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), NIMROD Theatre Company, The Sydney Theatre Company and the New South Wales Conservatorium Opera School.

Internationally, Dean has taught at the UK Actors' Centre and the Mountview Drama School in London; Vakhtangov State Theatre in Moscow; Lasalle University in Singapore, France and Brazil. He has also conducted workshops in the USA including Yale University; various colleges and universities in Los Angeles and across California including Cal Arts, USC, UCSD and the LA High School of Performing Arts and, the Ensemble Theatre Company in Florida. Dean was International Guest Professor at the University of California in Davis (2003).

Dean is a published author of four books: The Actor's Audition Manual (1985); The Actor's Audition Manual, Vol. I (1998); Masterclass - Audition Manual Vol. 2 (1999/95); The Acting Edge (with Workbook and App) (2012) that was launched by Hugh Jackman with the fifth scheduled to be published mid-2019.

Dean Carey works as a Performance Consultant on TV and film projects that have included the Australian productions of The Boy From Oz and Saturday Night Fever, and has created and directed eight site-specific acclaimed Verbertim Theatre productions from 2011-2017: The Wayside and Sydney Stories (2011); Stories From the West Side (2012); Starlight Stories and Stories From the INside OUT! (2013); Stories from The Heart(land) (2014), Mind the GAP (2015); State of the Nation (2016) and MOTHERLOAD (2017).

In the capacity of Personal Performance Coach, Dean has worked with Gary Flowers, Colin Friels, Tushka Bergen, Paul Mercurio, John Polson, Cameron Daddo, Aaron Blabey, Nadine Garner, Melissa George, Tayler Kane, Dee Smart, Kane Alexander, Richard Wilkins, David Campbell, Marcia Hines, Aaron Cash, Marina prior.

Dean has held Industry and Board appointments for a number of companies from 1991 to 2017: WA Representative of International Theatre Institute (1991-1993); Board Member of WA Youth Theatre Company, Perth (1992-1993); Australian Representative of Theatre Conference, Moscow (1992); Conjoint Fellow of University of Newcastle (1998); Honorary Member of WBN - Wholistic Business Network (2002-Present); Chair of Monkey Baa Company, Sydney (2005-2008); Guest Judge - TV Week Logie Awards (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017); Chair of The New Plot - National Playwriting Companay (2017); Ambassador of Southern Highlands Youth Arts Council (2017-Present); and Dean of Theatre of MindChamps International (2017).

As a speaker, Dean has been and is invited to speak about his career, life and philosophies at various conferences and events. Dean Carey's passionate pursuit of transformational education and performance motivates and guides all that he does.
