  • He smoked up to 80 cigarettes a day until his heart attack in January 1993.
  • Older brother of Selina Cadell and the grandson of actress Jean Cadell. Son-in-law of the comedy writer and director, David Croft.
  • Suffered a near-fatal heart attack in January 1993 and underwent triple bypass surgery.
  • Was the voice of Celeborn in the BBC radio adaptation of The Lord of the Rings.
  • Was best friends with fellow actor Jeremy Sinden, who also died from lung cancer, at the same age of 45, just three months after Cadell in 1996.
  • His trademark lopsided face was the result of complications when he was born, requiring the use of a forceps delivery.
  • He was educated at Bedales School in Petersfield (where aged 12 he played Sherlock Holmes in a play scripted by great friend Gyles Brandreth) and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
  • He was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 1993 (1992 season) for Best Comedy Performance for "Travels with My Aunt".
  • Cousin of Patrick Cadell and Guy Siner.
  • Was diagnosed with lung cancer on 11 September 1993.
