Writer/director Zach Cregger’s horror film Barbarian (watch it Here) was a financial success when it was released last year, and it also received a lot of positive word-of-mouth. New Line Cinema was so impressed by it, they forked over $38 million to pick up Cregger’s mysterious new horror project, Weapons. (Beating out Jordan Peele and Universal in the bidding war.) "Barbarian," the new horror film written and directed by Zach Cregger and streaming now on HBO Max, stars Georgina Campbell as Tess Marshall, a young woman who books an Airbnb in Detroit to stay in during a job interview. But when she arrives, she finds another person, Keith (Bill Skarsgård), is already staying there, claiming he made a reservation on another rental site. Tess is unsettled but decides to stay there with him anyway. The film takes viewers on a terrifying (and often hilarious) journey.

"Barbarian"'s horror really begins when Tess goes down into the basement of the rental to get toilet paper, and the door locks behind her. She explores the basement and finds a secret, dark hallway. Down it, she finds a room where someone was obviously locked up.

Every once in a while, a horror movie comes out of nowhere to become something you just “have to see” — at least, within the horror community. In 2021, it was James Wan’s “Malignant,” and now in 2022 it’s quickly becoming “Barbarian,” the 20th Century Studios horror film that has been building buzz in the weeks since it first hit theaters. Most of those raving about the movie say you want to know as little as possible going in, but how about where you can watch it? All your questions answered below.

Is “Barbarian” Streaming or in Theaters?

“Barbarian” is currently playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. The film opened on Sept. 9, exclusively in theaters.

Walt Disney Studios At San Diego Comic-Con 2022

San Diego Comic-Con audiences were “horror-fied” by 20th Century Studios’ and New Regency’s terrifying thriller “Barbarian” at a special screening earlier this evening attended by writer-director Zach Cregger with a surprise appearance by cast member Justin Long.

The film will open in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on Friday, September 9.

In “Barbarian,” a young woman traveling to Detroit for a job interview books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked, and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.

From 20th Century Studios and New Regency, “Barbarian” stars Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis, Richard Brake, Jaymes Butler and Kurt Braunohler.

The start of the fall box office just got bleaker as Warner Bros is moving New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King vampire novel Salem’s Lot from Sept. 9 to April 21, 2023. I hear the move is due to Covid-related delays in the post production realm. The Gary Dauberman-directed pic also had a handful of days of additional photography six weeks ago.

That post Labor Day weekend is a rich one that Warner Bros/New Line created for horror movie fare, beginning with Stephen King’s It in 2017 which debuted to the month’s all-time record of 123.4M. Warner continued to tap that weekend in 2018 with The Nun which saw the best opening for The Conjuring franchise with 53.8M and again in 2019 with It: Chapter Two which debuted to 91M (Dauberman adapted the It movies for the big screen).

Following the first trailer released in January and the international trailer that debuted last month, a new domestic trailer has arrived for Big Game, starring Samuel L. Jackson and young Finnish actor Onni Tommila. Director Jalmari Helander returns with this long-awaited follow-up to his cult Christmas classic Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. Oliver Stone has added three actors to the cast of his upcoming Edward Snowden film, simply titled Snowden, on the heels of Open Road Films dating the anticipated picture for a Christmas Day release.

Nicolas Cage, Rhys Ifans and Joely Richardson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) have all joined a cast led by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley. Melissa Leo, Tom Wilkinson, Zachary Quinto, Scott Eastwood, Timothy Olyphant, Ben Schnetzer and Jaymes Butler also star. Cage will play a former U.S. intelligence official, while no details have been revealed about Ifans and Richardson’s roles.

FX’s Justified is just weeks away from the finale of its sixth and final season, but star Timothy Olyphant doesn’t need to worry about being out of work once it’s curtains for the acclaimed drama. Deadline reveals that the actor is negotiating a deal to join Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley in Oliver Stone’s Edward Snowden pic.

Olyphant will portray a CIA agent who befriended Snowden before the American contractor, who leaked thousands of classified documents that he acquired while working for the Nsa, fled to Russia seeking asylum.

The actor was last seen on screen in ill-received dramedy This is Where I Leave You, but he’s known to TV aficionados not only for Justified but also for his stints on Deadwood and The Office. This latest project is sure to send his stock soaring even higher.

3096 is an upcoming movie based on the real-life case of Natascha Kampusch, and in case you’re not so familiar with this story – I will right here at the beginning warn you that the whole thing looks terrifying. Directed by Sherry Horman and described as a story about the triumph of the human spirit, this drama opens next month in Germany. Still nothing about the Us release date, but at least we have the first trailer, poster & images to share with you, make sure you check them out!
