The Brutalist is making its rounds as one of the best films of 2024, rising to the top of most film critics' end-of-year lists, and winning three categories at the Golden Globes. The film is a serious contender for many awards at the Oscars, including Best Picture. The Brutalist has had an interesting rise to popularity and awards contention. The film runs for three and a half hours, going so long that it needs an intermission. The Brutalist's focus on architecture isn't as attention-grabbing as most other films in theaters, either.
However, The Brutalist has plenty of positives that have made the film such a strong awards contender. The film's stars, Adrien Brody and Guy Pearce, deliver career-defining performances. The Brutalist is also masterfully crafted, with an entirely original story that sheds light on issues that still affect life today, such as the struggles immigrants have and how stories about...

Awards season is officially in full swing. Last Sunday kicked off the film industry’s most anticipated time of the year with the Golden Globes, which gave much-needed boosts to contenders like Kieran Culkin, Zoe Saldaña, and Adrien Brody as Oscar nomination voting wraps up. Demi Moore, in an already iconic speech, brought the house down with her win for Best Actress, fully cementing her comeback. Amazon MGM is getting into the race car business thanks to news that a new drama series centered around the world of Formula 1 is being developed for Prime Video. The best part? Felicity Jones is set to lead the cast of what's being titled One, which is the first-ever sanctioned scripted series by the Fia.
Per Variety, Jones is set to both lead and executive produce One, which is said to "focus on a failing family-owned racing team, led by Jones’ character, as it contends with fierce personalities, ever-changing rivals and multi-million-dollar stakes." It should be made clear that, as of right now, the F1 drama is currently in the developmental stage, and an official series order has yet to be made by Amazon, meaning that there is still a slight chance that things could fall apart. I'm not someone who naturally gives preference to a film based on the size of its ambition. The filmmaking challenge of marshaling a massive production doesn't guarantee the final product will be any more impactful as a piece of art. But there's nothing quite like a big swing that connects, is there? The Brutalist is a colossal achievement, balancing intimacy and scale at every level of craft. At 3 hours, 35 minutes, it asks a lot from its viewers. Every second is well spent.

Writer/director Zach Cregger’s horror film Barbarian (watch it Here) was a financial success when it was released last year, and it also received a lot of positive word-of-mouth. New Line Cinema was so impressed by it, they forked over $38 million to pick up Cregger’s mysterious new horror project, Weapons. (Beating out Jordan Peele and Universal in the bidding war.) New Line then signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, the production company behind Barbarian. They have since set up two other projects, a sci-fi thriller called Companion and a haunted house movie called Occupant, that Cregger will be producing. But while the filmmakers move on to other ideas, Barbarian does still has life in it. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that a Barbarian video game is now in the works!

Some basements are better left unexplored, as seen in Barbarian. The film centers on a young woman who books a remote house in a rundown area of Detroit, only to find someone else already staying there, though as she slowly warms up to her unintended roommate, she learns of a terrifying secret deep within the house.
Georgina Campbell leads the cast of Barbarian alongside Justin Long, Bill Skarsgård, Matthew Patrick Davis, Richard Brake, and James Butler. Written and directed by comedian Zach Cregger in his solo directorial debut, the film is a thoroughly tense and chilling affair perfect for horror genre fans.

Content warning: This article contains accounts of sexual assault, incest, and suicide as depicted in the movie "Barbarian."
"Barbarian," the new horror film written and directed by Zach Cregger and streaming now on HBO Max, stars Georgina Campbell as Tess Marshall, a young woman who books an Airbnb in Detroit to stay in during a job interview. But when she arrives, she finds another person, Keith (Bill Skarsgård), is already staying there, claiming he made a reservation on another rental site. Tess is unsettled but decides to stay there with him anyway. The film takes viewers on a terrifying (and often hilarious) journey.
"Barbarian"'s horror really begins when Tess goes down into the basement of the rental to get toilet paper, and the door locks behind her. She explores the basement and finds a secret, dark hallway. Down it, she finds a room where someone was obviously locked up.

Movies like Zach Cregger's Barbarian play out like a well-written and expansive summer read, but it's for this reason a prequel wouldn't work (but a sequel might). The plot is relatively straightforward: Tess Marshall rents an Airbnb. Unfortunately, it's already occupied, and there's intense deliberation on whether this man, Keith (Bill Skarsgård) is even remotely who he seems.
In time, greater secrets are revealed, secrets that stretch back decades and have left many families with heartache and unanswered questions. Barbarian is shocking because it's so sublimely assembled by Cregger. Every moment lands, yet raises more questions than it answers. By the time the credits roll, the audience knows everything, but everything they now know is far from what they expected going in.

When you rent an Airbnb, the most important step of booking the place is making sure everything is on the up and up. You never really know what's lurking in the corners of someone else's abode, after all. Once you take the gleefully twisted roller coaster ride that is "Barbarian," however, you're going to thoroughly inspect every crevice of the place, if not outright cancel any standing reservations.
It's become partly cliche to say that a movie like "Barbarian" will have a cultural effect in the same way "Jaws" did with water, but I challenge anyone currently staying in an Airbnb property to witness this movie and not think about packing your bags immediately after you get home from the theater.

When you rent an Airbnb, the most important step of booking the place is making sure everything is on the up and up. You never really know what's lurking in the corners of someone else's abode, after all. 20th Century Studios has an original horror hit on their hands with Barbarian, which opened to 10 million here in the United States this past weekend. Positive word of mouth is largely responsible for the film’s opening weekend success, with Bloody Disgusting’s Meagan Navarro raving in her review that Barbarian is one of 2022’s biggest crowd-pleasers.
Meagan writes, “Barbarian demands to be seen with a crowd.”
Like all movies, Barbarian was just an idea in its creator’s mind before cameras started rolling, and this week writer/director Zach Cregger has shared the “mood reel” that helped him sell the concept. Cregger explains, “When trying to sell your movie you gotta cut together a ‘Rip Reel’. I used YouTube videos/other peoples movies/and my wife’s voice about 2 years ago.”
As many fans have pointed out, the best way to go into Barbarian is completely blind, as the...

Eight brand new horror movies are releasing in this first full week of September, and trust me when I say even that makes for a quiet week compared to what’s coming soon.
Here’s all the new horror arriving September 6 – September 11, 2022!
First up, Dread’s Tiny Cinema was just unleashed On Demand yesterday, a horror anthology of multiversal madness that’s also coming to Blu-ray on October 11 of this year.
Sit back, relax, and get uncomfortable…
From the makers of Butt Boy, Tiny Cinema is said to be “a twisted tale of seemingly unconnected strangers whose lives will change in incredible and bizarre ways forever. As reality unravels, each person must battle incredible challenges from a multiverse seeking...

The start of the fall box office just got bleaker as Warner Bros is moving New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King vampire novel Salem’s Lot from Sept. 9 to April 21, 2023. I hear the move is due to Covid-related delays in the post production realm. The Gary Dauberman-directed pic also had a handful of days of additional photography six weeks ago.
That post Labor Day weekend is a rich one that Warner Bros/New Line created for horror movie fare, beginning with Stephen King’s It in 2017 which debuted to the month’s all-time record of 123.4M. Warner continued to tap that weekend in 2018 with The Nun which saw the best opening for The Conjuring franchise with 53.8M and again in 2019 with It: Chapter Two which debuted to 91M (Dauberman adapted the It movies for the big screen).

"This process might seem overwhelming..." 20th Century has revealed the first trailer for Barbarian, yet another rental home horror thriller, this one from actor / filmmaker Zach Cregger. We just posted another trailer a few days ago for a film, Gone in the Night, also about a doubled-booked rental - this is becoming a trend with thrillers. In town for a job interview, a young woman arrives at her Airbnb late at night only to find that her rental has been mistakenly double-booked and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgement, she decides to stay the night anyway, but soon discovers that there is much more to be afraid of in the house than the other guest. The film stars Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis, Richard Brake, Kurt Braunohler, and Jaymes Butler. This looks like it goes to some crazy places once she...

Following the first trailer released in January and the international trailer that debuted last month, a new domestic trailer has arrived for Big Game, starring Samuel L. Jackson and young Finnish actor Onni Tommila. Director Jalmari Helander returns with this long-awaited follow-up to his cult Christmas classic Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. It's certainly possible that this action-thriller that could develop a much bigger following than his debut when it hits theaters this summer, but we'll have to wait and see.
Big Game follows the plight of Oskari (Onni Tommila), a shy, nervous 13-year-old boy. Like his forefathers, his time has come to take a test of manhood by spending one day and one night alone in the wilderness of a vast local forest. Armed only with a bow and arrow, his task is to return with a prize to prove himself. But this is no ordinary night. Air Force...

Oliver Stone has added three actors to the cast of his upcoming Edward Snowden film, simply titled Snowden, on the heels of Open Road Films dating the anticipated picture for a Christmas Day release.

FX’s Justified is just weeks away from the finale of its sixth and final season, but star Timothy Olyphant doesn’t need to worry about being out of work once it’s curtains for the acclaimed drama. Deadline reveals that the actor is negotiating a deal to join Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley in Oliver Stone’s Edward Snowden pic.
Olyphant will portray a CIA agent who befriended Snowden before the American contractor, who leaked thousands of classified documents that he acquired while working for the Nsa, fled to Russia seeking asylum.
The actor was last seen on screen in ill-received dramedy This is Where I Leave You, but he’s known to TV aficionados not only for Justified but also for his stints on Deadwood and The Office. This latest project is sure to send his stock soaring even higher.

3096 is an upcoming movie based on the real-life case of Natascha Kampusch, and in case you’re not so familiar with this story – I will right here at the beginning warn you that the whole thing looks terrifying. Directed by Sherry Horman and described as a story about the triumph of the human spirit, this drama opens next month in Germany. Still nothing about the Us release date, but at least we have the first trailer, poster & images to share with you, make sure you check them out!
Hormann directed the controversial biopic from a script written by Oscar-nominated producer Bernd Eichinger (who was working on the script when he died suddenly in January) and Ruth Thoma (who completed Eichinger’s unfinished screenplay).
As we said – the movie centers on Natascha Kampusch, kidnapped in 1998, when she was only 10, and held hostage in a cellar by Wolfgang Priklopil until 2006 (not hard...
