  • Long-faced French character actor and writer, the son of a teacher and a tobacco shop proprietress. He graduated from the College of Dreux and began on stage in 1931, early on also performing in cabaret. A reliable supporting actor in films, he usually played typical Parisians. Throughout his life, he remained a vociferous member of the actor's union.
