Songwriter ("Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh", "Portofino", "Sabre Dance Boogie"), pianist, composer, conductor and arranger. He began his own orchestra at 12, then attended high school and private music study. He played piano in the orchestras of Clyde McCoy, Henry Busse, Vincent Lopez, George Olsen and Hal Kemp. He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II, and became artists-and-repertoire director for Capitol Records in Los Angeles. He arranged and conducted all of Allen Sherman's novelty records. Joining ASCAP in 1951, he also composed the popular songs "Ivory Rag", "Waltz in Ragtime", "My Birthday Comes on Xmas", and "Tango Afrique".
