Robert Burns was born to a poor farming family in the Lowlands of Scotland in 1759. During his adult years he wrote several volumes of poetry that were well received. By the time of his death he was considered the poet laureate of Scotland, and is still considered so by many to this day. Among his many poems are; Auld Lang Syne, Coming Thro the Rye, Tam O'Shanter etc.
