Review: Pitch Perfect 2
Pitch Perfect snuck up on us as a charming, funny film that took the national interest in all things acapella and grafted it onto the teen Coming of Age story template from Bring it On. With a strong ensemble and winning soundtrack, it wowed at the box office, making a singing star of Anna Kendrick, and ensuring there’d be a sequel.

If the film had any fault it was that some elements were so outsized they seemed incongruous with the rest of the story, such as the force and volume of Anna Camp’s projectile vomiting or Renee Wilson’s super-sized characterization.

Unfortunately, the trend towards bigger and more preposterous elements plagues Pitch Perfect 2, out now on Blu-ray Combo Pack from Universal Home Entertainment. At a performance before President Obama, Fat Amy has a wardrobe malfunction that gets televised but the reaction is far more extreme than...

When a film like Pitch Perfect delivers, and becomes a hit, where can the sequel go? The answer is simple push the heroes back to rock bottom so they can drag themselves up to the top again, if that’s what they want. That does raise the question though… Is that enough to keep Pitch Perfect 2 on top?

When the Bellas perform in front of the President an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction by Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) leaves them a national disgrace, resulting in their removed from the Aca-Circuit. To clear their name and regain their status and legacy, they decide to take on the world in International competition,...

'Pitch Perfect' 2 Family Review: 5 Things Every Parent Needs to Know
The Barden Bellas are back, folks, and this time they've been the reigning U.S. a cappella champions for three years running. But after one big rip in Fat Amy's costume, the winning team turns into an epic a cappella fail. In this sequel to 2012's sleeper hit, Beca (Anna Kendrick), Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson), Chloe (Brittany Snow) and co. return to redeem their Bellas from being the shame of American a cappella by competing in the world a cappella competition against the German international champions. While not considered as fabulous as the original, the sequel is still funny enough to compel even third and fourth graders to see it (in case you're wondering, for the most part, that's a bit young for the humor).

Here are five issues to keep in mind before heading off to see the Bellas return to glory in "Pitch Perfect 2."

1. Did your kid see the original?...

Pitch Perfect 2 – The Review
Let’s raise a cheer for the lil’ movie that could. Or better yet, let’s hit a high note. Three years ago a modestly budgeted flick opened with little fanfare that starred a cast of relative unknowns. Ladies, too! Well mostly, there were a few potential beaus hanging about, but the main focus was on this motley group of young women in college. And they comprised an a capella singing group. Not cheerleaders, not a sport team, but singers. The first Pitch Perfect didn’t set any box office records, but it continued to quietly play, for more than just a couple of weeks, at the multiplex. Well, it made its money back, at least. But what happened with the initial Austin Powers flick struck again. Repeated cable TV airings and brisk, very brisk, home video sales (and a hit music single) made the execs at Universal take notice.

Rebel Wilson's dream role is Carrie on 'Homeland'
Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Hana Mae Lee, Chrissie Fit, Hailee Steinfeld, Alexis Knapp, and Ester Dean in Pitch Perfect 2 (2015)
"Pitch Perfect 2" gives you the competitive flair and camaraderie of the original with an added dose of the outrageous. Stars Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine are just as maniacal about singing competitions in their roles as a cappella addicts Fat Amy and Bumper, who seem like natural extensions of the actors' irreverent personalities.  But you might be shocked to learn that both actors have secret yearnings to play darker, stranger roles. We asked Wilson and DeVine what kinds of characters they'd love to start playing.  "A lot of people don't know I have a serious side. I want to law school and stuff," Wilson told us. "You know who I love? Claire Danes in 'Homeland.' To be out there playing a CIA analyst in the war on terror... would be kickass."  Watch our interview to see Wilson and DeVine talk about "Pitch Perfect 2," the songs they wish they'd sung,...

Pitch Perfect 2's Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine on Fat Amy and Bumper's Sexual Chemistry
Amy (1981)
As Fat Amy and Bumper, Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine have one of the steamiest, most star-crossed, and downright weirdest big-screen romances in recent memory. We sat down with the duo to talk about their chemistry in Pitch Perfect 2, why Amy and Bumper are like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and Rebel's crazy Cirque du Soleil stunt in the film.

Joss Whedon can tell you about how hard it is to make a sequel that matches the creative heights of its predecessor, especially a beloved one. The "Avengers" filmmaker was forced to juggle studio priorities alongside fan expectations with "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Whedon, at least to this critic, wasn't able to match the first film's energy or euphoria, but another summer sequel, "Pitch Perfect 2," manages to come much closer to pulling off that delicate dance. Much of the credit has to go to Elizabeth Banks who makes her directorial debut with the highly anticipated flick and the results will leave you wanting more (well, more singing at least). When we last left the Barton Bellas, the collegiate singing group had gone from underdogs to national champions. Our heroines are now Queens of A Cappella and singing at the Kennedy Center in front of the President of the United States,...

New Batch Of Pitch Perfect 2 Pics Bring The Barden Bellas Back Together
See Full Gallery Here

One of the summer’s most surefire hits is Universal’s Pitch Perfect 2, which will reunite the Barden Bellas as they take their a cappella talents to new heights in hopes of regaining fame and popularity after a humiliating wardrobe malfunction in front of none other than the President of the United States. Back for more pitch-slapping mayhem are stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin, Anna Camp and Brittany Snow, and the sequel also adds a new Bella in the form of Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit).

A new batch of images has ended up online today, showcasing most of the principal cast and reminding us that Elizabeth Banks is not only starring in but also directing this follow-up. Will the first-time helmer be able to deliver another chapter that rivals the fist-pumping charms of Jason Moore’s original? The jury’s still out on that one,...

Pitch Perfect 2 review
Pitch Perfect 2 valiantly tries to capture what made the first film work. Not successfully, though...

The first Pitch Perfect film got away with a lot of its glaring flaws simply because it was something a little bit different, or at least the same stuff served as part of a slightly different package. It had a primarily female cast, upbeat music and stuck it all in a rude comedy geared towards an audience who’d only rarely been targeted by the genre before.

But 2012 was a very different time, when musicals were still in the zeitgeist both on the big and small screen, and the question of whether an appetite for another Pitch Perfect really exists three years later tentatively hangs over this sequel. Based on the final product, the answer’s probably no, because it feels as if even those involved have fallen out of love with the concept.

'Pitch Perfect 2' Super Bowl Trailer Has Green Bay Singing
Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Hana Mae Lee, Chrissie Fit, Hailee Steinfeld, Alexis Knapp, and Ester Dean in Pitch Perfect 2 (2015)
Earlier today, a brief behind-the-scenes clip debuted from the highly-anticipated sequel Pitch Perfect 2, featuring members of the Green Bay Packers football team, Clay Matthews III, David Bakhtiari, Tj Lang, Josh Sitton, Don Barclay and Jordan Rodgers. As it turns out, that video was a precursor to the sequel's official Super Bowl trailer, which also featured these football players showing off their a cappella singing skills, and Anna Kendrick's Beca belting out her version of Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats." We also get a glimpse of a speech by Rebel Wilson's Fat Amy talking about Team America's "haters."

The sequel centers on the Barden Bellas entering an international a cappella competition that no American team has ever won. Pitch Perfect stars Anna Kendrick (Beca), Skylar Astin (Jesse), Brittany Snow (Chloe), Anna Camp (Aubrey), Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy), Adam DeVine (Bumper) and Alexis Knapp (Stacie) reprise their roles from the original blockbuster,...

The Bellas are back in first trailer for Pitch Perfect 2
Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) – or rather, “Patricia” – is back for another round of intense a capella and synchronized lady dancing in the first trailer for Pitch Perfect 2.

Though the trailer starts off with a slowed-down reprise of Anna Kendrick’s “Cups” (“When I’m Gone”), it picks up halfway through, teasing enough riff offs and music-related puns to get you psyched for another two hours with Kendrick, Brittany Snow – node-free? – and the rest of the Barden Bellas.

In terms of new cast members, Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) joins the Bellas as their new recruit, andDavid Cross(Arrested Development) appears to take over the role of emcee from now-director Elizabeth Banks andChristopher Guest regular John Michael Higgins. Eagle-eyed YouTube aficionados may also notice the welcome addition ofFlula Borg as the Bella’s foreign foe.

Oh, and aca-scuse me! It looks like even though Bumper Allen, the leader of the Treblemakers,...

'Cups' returns in 'Pitch Perfect 2' trailer

In case that "Cups" song wasn't enough of an earworm, it's back again in the trailer for Pitch Perfect 2 with the Barden Bellas giving audiences a sweet, a cappella (aca-duh) version. And then the fart noise comes. Yes, EW's cover stars, the Bellas, are back and headed for the World Championships, where they are once again the underdogs. Hailee Steinfeld is on hand as a new addition to the group, but a lot of familiar faces are back, including Benji (Ben Platt), who is still doing magic, and Bumper (Adam DeVine) who is still being obnoxious. The Pitch Perfect 2 Trailer Arrives Online
Kerry Barden
The Barden Bellas are back, back, back and this time they're taking on the world, as revealed in the new trailer for Pitch Perfect 2. The trouble is that the world doesn't like America, and Beca Mitchell (Anna Kendrick) and the gang are going to have to sing (and dance) like never before if they're going to make it. And, with any luck, not vomit as much as they did in the first one. As well as the returning cast you were hoping for - Rebel Wilson as "Fat Amy", Adam DeVine as the leader of the Treblemakers, Bumper Allen, and many more - there are plenty of new names to look forward to, including Hailee Steinfeld as Bella newcomer Emily. You've also got mud wrestling, some magic involving dry leaves and the concept of "Loser" as a language. The first film came out in 2012, sneakily hauling in $113 million at the box office,...

'Pitch Perfect 2' Stars Sing a 4th of July a Capella Duet!

While Americans get ready for the 4th of July holiday, Pitch Perfect 2 director/co-star Elizabeth Banks enlisted the help of Skylar Astin (Jesse) and Ben Platt (Benji) to celebrate a cappella style. The filmmaker posted a new video to her Facebook and Twitter pages featuring the actors, clad in their traditional Treblemaker purple blazers, singing an a cappella version of "America the Beautiful." Take a look at the brief video, then read on for more details regarding Pitch Perfect 2.

America the Beautiful as sung by the amazingly talented @SkylarAstin & @BenSPLATT. http://t.co/Y9ESShei13

As you may recall from Pitch Perfect, Jesse joined The Treblemakers, Barden University's all-male a cappella singing group, while Benji didn't make the final cut. Jesse brought him back to the team after the departure of Bumper (Adam DeVine), giving Benji his time in the spotlight during the finals.

Adam DeVine Will Return For Pitch Perfect 2
Fans of 2012′s breakout musical college comedy Pitch Perfect already know to expect more of the same song and dance when the Elizabeth Banks-directed sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, hits theaters next year. The film will find Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Skyler Astin, Hana Mae Lee and Kelley Jakle reprising their roles, and scribe Kay Cannon is back on script-writing duties. Now, we’ve learned that Adam DeVine, another familiar face, will also be returning for the sequel.

DeVine, who played Bumper Allen, the obnoxious leader of male a capella group the Treblemakers, just signed on to appear as the character in Pitch Perfect 2. Though he only showed up in a few scenes of Pitch Perfect, DeVine left an impact as one of the feel-good comedy’s few truly villainous characters. Given that the first film found Bumper deserting his fellow Treblemakers to...

Adam DeVine will return for 'Pitch Perfect 2'
Aca-amazing!

Fan-favorite Bumper will be back for Pitch Perfect 2, EW has confirmed. Adam DeVine’s (Workaholics) Treblemakers were antagonists to the Barden Bellas in the original, so a return engagement seems to suggest that the rivalry will continue…or his relationship with Fat Amy has heated up and now they’re planning the weirdest wedding ever. So many possibilities!

Pitch Perfect 2, directed by Elizabeth Banks, will star Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson; the film will open May 15, 2015. In the meantime, reminisce about Bumper by watching the riff-off below:...

Adam DeVine Returns as Bumper Allen for 'Pitch Perfect 2'
Adam Devine
Workaholics creator and star Adam DeVine is returning as Bumper Allen in the sequel Pitch Perfect 2.

The comedian starred in the 2012 cult hit comedy Pitch Perfect as the leader of the all-male campus singing champions The Treblemakers. He will be back causing trouble for our heroes, including Anna Kendrick as Beca and Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy. Also confirmed to return from the original are Brittany Snow and Elizabeth Banks, who is also making her directorial debut with this sequel. She served as a producer on the first film, which went onto earn $113 million globally as well as having the best-selling soundtrack of 2013.

Last week, Hailee Steinfeld signed on for a featured role that will become the lead in future sequels if Pitch Perfect 2 performs well at the box office. Shooting is scheduled to begin this summer, and a May 15, 2015 release date has already been set.

‘Pitch Perfect’ Blu-ray Review

Sometimes you run into one of those movies that knows what it is and embraces it with full force. Often that is the case for the turn your brain off action thrillers, but those types of films can also be found in other genres. Such is the case for the corky comedy Pitch Perfect. Riding on the coattails of the cultural phenomenon that is Glee,Pitch Perfect tells the story of an all-girls collegiate acapella singing group that is attempting to beat the odds and win Nationals. It comes off as a recipe for disaster; another studio film attempting to jump on the current zeitgeist hoping it will garner an audience. While that may have been the reason for its creation the...

Pitch Perfect Review
When Glee first arrived on the small screen in the wake of the High School Musical phenomenon, it initially appeared that it would be satirising the genre while exploiting exactly what made it some popular in the first place. Whether that was the intent or not, it ended up only doing the latter and has creatively suffered ever since. Pitch Perfect feels a lot closer to what Glee could have been had it stayed true to that original course reached its full potential.

So here we get a protagonist (Anna Kendrick’s Beca) who prefers to produce and mix her own music and approaches the idea of performing with the a capella groups with a huge degree of cynicism. There’s also characters like the unashamedly blasé Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson), who calls herself that so “twig bitches like you don’t do it behind my back.” The super enthusiastic about a capella characters,...

Pitch Perfect Blu-ray and DVD Arrive December 18th
Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Hana Mae Lee, Alexis Knapp, and Ester Dean in The Hit Girls (2012)
Beca (Anna Kendrick) arrives at her new college to find herself not right for any clique but somehow muscled into one she never would have picked on her own: alongside mean girls, sweet girls and weird girls whose only thing in common is how good they sound when they sing together in this hilarious laugh out-loud comedy, Pitch Perfect. The outrageous and irreverently fun Pitch Perfect, packed with deleted and extended scenes, line-o-ramas, music videos and more, will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, On Demand and Digital Download on December 18, 2012 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

When Beca leads this acoustic singing group out of their traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mashups, they fight to climb their way to the top of college music competitions. This could wind up either the coolest thing they'll ever do or the most insane, and it will probably be a little of both.

Adam Devine
Adam DeVine on Pitch Perfect, Workaholics, and His Arrested Development Cameo
Adam Devine
Adam DeVine, co-creator and co-star of the Comedy Central show Workaholics, is not just a troublemaker, he's a Treblemaker. In the delightful comedy Pitch Perfect, he plays the brash leader of an all-male singing group known as the bad boys of a cappella. His character, Bumper, is rude, crude, and all-around insulting to his female competitors, the Barden Bellas. (He tells them, for example, "You girls are awesome ... ly horrible. I hate you. Kill yourselves. Girl power!") Still, he finds himself strangely attracted to the biggest of the Bellas, Fat Amy (played by scene stealer Rebel Wilson), who thankfully rebuffs him at every turn. A very funny DeVine chatted with Vulture about his love of sequels, wooing women with Disney songs, and his cameo on the resurrected Arrested Development. Thanks for doing this so early in the morning. It's a nightmare. [Laughs.] As soon as I can get my pants...

Video Interviews: "Pitch Perfect" Stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Adam Devine
Brittany Snow, Anna Kendrick, Adam DeVine and Rebel Wilson

Pitch Perfect sets out to prove that tuneful women can bond together, wail Ace of Base's "The Sign," and look like thugs doing it. The cheeky, addictive film begins plainly enough: A surly college freshman named Beca (Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick) sets aside her DJ ambitions and reluctantly joins the Barden Bellas, one of the school's female a cappella groups, and becomes pals with colleagues like bossy ringleader Aubrey (Anna Camp), sane Chloe (Brittany Snow), and a droll blonde who calls herself Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson). They square off in competition against the Treble Makers, a male group driven by cocky leader Bumper (Adam DeVine), but can the ladies coexist peacefully when it's clear that stubborn Aubrey's old-hat routine needs an upgrade? The answer is: Not really, but that won't stop them from singing "Party in the U.S.A." on the bus together.

Anna Kendrick at an event for In the Air (2009)
Though Oscar-nominee Anna Kendrick might be the highest profile star of "Pitch Perfect," it's quirky comedians Adam DeVine ("Workaholics") and Rebel Wilson ("Bridesmaids") who steal the show. As members of competing a cappella singing groups, Bumper (DeVine) and Fat Amy (Wilson) have a love-hate relationship that seems on the verge of blossoming into something steamy -- but we may have to wait for the sequel to get the skinny. "There was a lot more between us," Wilson deadpanned. "I think they decided Anna Kendrick had been nominated for an Oscar, so she should get the main love story, really." "There was...

‘Pitch Perfect’ an enjoyable college comedy that could’ve been great
Pitch Perfect

Directed by Jason Moore

Written by Kay Cannon

USA, 2012

Too many people making romantic comedies and coming-of-age stories are tied down to a criminally punishing three-act structure and conventions defined both by standard-bearers of the genre and by studio mandates. Otherwise entertaining films like For a Good Time, Call… and Bridesmaids shift gears and allow boring, seen-it-before plot machinations to grind their pacing to a halt, simply because we’ve been conditioned to think the leads in these lighthearted movies have to go through the motions of unnecessary conflict. Such is the case with Pitch Perfect, which is most enjoyable and wry when screenwriter Kay Cannon is able to drift away from typical character beats and motivations. The film, boosted by fiercely funny performances from Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, is smart and exciting until the plot rears its ugly head.

Kendrick, one of the best and most intelligent actresses of her generation,...

It Came From 1980 X: The Sleeper (2012) – Somebody Tell Justin Russell Doc Brown Wants His Delorean Back
Yeah, we’re cheating on our beloved decade of decadence. The Sleeper is not a movie from the 1980′s, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t have the look, feel, soundtrack, costumes design and dialogue down pat. It even comes as a special edition red VHS tape with big box packaging equipped with all the subtle nuisances of the video store rental experience (more on that later). It Came From 1980 X does not discriminate against films of any generation as long as they embody the spirit of hyper color and slap like a bracelet.

Synopsis:

It’s 1981 and the girls of Alpha Gamma Theta sorority are having a party. Amy, sick of living in the dorms, invites her roommate Ava to attend the party with her in hopes that they’ll both become Thetas. As the girls arrive, so does an uninvited guest watching them in the shadows.

Well, he picks it all right back up in the same warm, witty, candid style with The Fry Chronicles (Penguin, £20.00 Srp), a must-read volume that,...
