‘The Bear’ Season 4 Soundtrack: From The Ronettes To Oasis
Image
FX’s The Bear Season 4 has been out for a week streaming on Hulu.

The series, which was renewed for a fifth season yesterday, has become known for its needle drops as well as its rotation of guest stars each season. While she didn’t have a song featured in Season 1, the show has come to include at least one Taylor Swift song since Season 2, because it wouldn’t be a heartfelt moment for Ebon Moss Bachrach’s Richie and his daughter without help from the songstress.

Season 2 of the show contained “Love Story” in the seventh episode, “Forks,” and Swift’s “Long Live” was featured in Season 3.

Find the full soundtrack to The Bear Season 4 — including songs from St. Vincent, Oasis, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Bishop Briggs, The Ronettes, Pretenders and more.

Warren Zevon’s Son Thinks His Dad Would Be Proud to Enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Image
Warren Zevon’s son isn’t sure how his late father would feel about finally getting inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “By now he’d be 78,” Jordan Zevon tells Rolling Stone. “How would 78-year-old pop react to it? He could have been the crankiest, get-off-my-lawn-guy on the planet, or he might’ve morphed into the story-time grandpa with hard candy in his pocket and think it’s delightful. We just don’t know.”

Music fans love to complain about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s many snubs,...

Bruce Springsteen Shares ‘Faithless’ From Soundtrack to Unmade ‘Spiritual Western’
Image
Twenty years ago, Bruce Springsteen was approached by a filmmaker about creating the soundtrack to a “spiritual Western” called Faithless that had yet to be filmed. He began penning material for it at the conclusion of the Devils and Dust tour in late 2005, and wound up with 11 songs, including four instrumentals. But the movie never went into production, the songs were placed in the vault, and not even the most devoted Springsteen fan that ever existed.

The complete Faithless soundtrack is finally coming out June 27 as one of the seven...

Bruce Springsteen Performs With Smokey Robinson, John Fogerty at 2025 American Music Honors Event
Image
The 2025 American Music Honors, presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey, gathered legends of rock, country, soul and Americana Saturday for an evening of memorable performances and heartfelt tributes. But by the time guest of honor Bruce Springsteen took the podium at the Pollak Theatre, even he’d had enough of himself.

“If I hear my name again, I’m going to fucking throw up,” Springsteen joked. “Let’s talk about fucking someone else.”

With that, the spotlight shifted to the evening’s honorees: Smokey Robinson, Emmylou Harris, Tom Morello, John Fogerty and Joe Ely. Each was celebrated by a standout lineup of presenters and performers including Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, Steve Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren. The night, hosted by Brian Williams, also featured a surprise performance from 2024’s honoree Jackson Browne. The latter joined Springsteen, Morello and...

How Craig Finn Made the Seventies L.A. Record of His Dreams
Image
When Craig Finn wants to make an L.A. album, he doesn’t mess around. He might be best known as the Minnesota-via-Brooklyn frontman of the Hold Steady, a punk bar-band wordsmith specializing in down-and-out tales with a Midwest flavor. But on his great new Always Been, he takes inspiration from Southern California, steeped in the style of old-school soft-rock troubadours like Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, and Randy Newman.

Just how Seventies L.A. is this album? Finn poses for the cover photo on a bridge over the Harbor Freeway...

Jesse Colin Young, Youngbloods’ Frontman and “Get Together” Singer, Dies at 83
Image
Jesse Colin Young, the singer, songwriter and founding member of the Youngbloods, the 1960s group best known for their top 10 hit “Get Together,” has died. He was 83.

Young died Sunday in his home in Aiken, South Carolina, his wife and manager, Connie Young, announced.

As the frontman of the Youngbloods, Young brought forth the ideals of the Woodstock generation with his band’s version of Chet Powers’ “Get Together.” The song, which called for peace and brotherhood, came off their debut album in 1967 and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 two years later.

After the group’s breakup in 1972, Young thrived as a solo artist, releasing albums that mixed socially conscious lyrics with outstanding guitar work and warm tenor vocals. He also was known for such other tunes as “Four in the Morning,” “Sunlight,” “Darkness, Darkness,” “Quicksand” and “Peace Song.”

Born Perry Miller in 1941 in Queens, Young was raised on Long Island.

Linda Ronstadt
Immediate Family review – insightful account of the unsung heroes of west coast rock
Linda Ronstadt
A group of veteran session musicians who played on records by Linda Ronstadt, Carole King and other 70s icons are celebrated in an amusing documentary

This is a music documentary for the connoisseurs and the heads. The Immediate Family is a rock band comprised of five guys in their 70s, a recently formed supergroup of alpha-level session musicians who have worked together for half a century, veterans of the west coast rock and country-rock scene, and who played on records by Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Carole King, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and many more.

They are Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel and Steve Postell on guitar, Russ Kunkel on drums and the massively white-bearded Leland Sklar on bass. These were musicians who benefited from the 70s trend of putting name-check credits in sleeve notes, and so became a professional aristocracy of the recording studio; everybody wanted to hire these easygoing,...

Rage Against the Machine celebrated release from prison of Indigenous rights activist Leonard Peltier, who was granted clemency by Joseph Biden in the final minutes of his presidency.

Peltier, who is 80, spent nearly 50 years in federal prison after being convicted of killing two FBI agents in 1975 on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Peltier, however, has always maintained his innocence, acknowledging he participated in the shootout as self-defense, but insisting he did not kill either agent. Supporters have also claimed that Peltier’s trial was unfair, alleging that...

Image
"You still believe in what we're doing?" "More than anything,." Fathom has debuted an official trailer for a down home Americana drama called Green and Gold, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Anders Lindwall. This is opening in theaters nationwide at the end of January, a few weeks before the actual Super Bowl game in early 2025. Emmet Walsh in his final performance. Lindwall's Green and Gold tells the story of a fourth-generation dairy farmer fighting to preserve his family's land and legacy against overwhelming odds and foreclosure pressure. ‘All Red Hair and No. B.S.’: Grateful Dead and Bonnie Raitt Tributes Soar at Kennedy Center Honors
Image
The 2024 edition of the Kennedy Center Honors celebrated an eclectic assortment of entertainers Sunday night: filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, singer Bonnie Raitt, trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and surviving members of the Grateful Dead. The organization also bestowed its honor on an entertainment venue for the first time, New York’s iconic Apollo Theater.

As per tradition, the honorees observed the proceedings from the presidential box in the Kennedy Center Opera House, accompanied by President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and First Husband Doug Emhoff. Freshly arrived from a White House reception, all received rousing ovations from an appreciative audience when introduced.

That White House tradition could go on hiatus during the incoming Trump administration, since Donald Trump notably declined to participate in the affair during his first presidency. Nonetheless, invitations will be extended by the rigidly nonpartisan arts institution, the Kencen assures.

Slated to air on CBS Dec.

Emma Roberts blocked her mom on Instagram? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Now, let’s rewind. Cunningham, who didn’t own a computer and was rocking a flip phone until Roberts gifted her an iPhone three years ago, was blissfully unaware of...

Pink Reunites With Dallas Green for Starry Crowd (Including Brad Pitt, Courteney Cox) at Rock4EB!
Image
Something special happened in Malibu on Saturday.

Global superstar Pink took a break from her record-setting Summer Carnival tour to hit the stage at a far more intimate venue than the arenas she’s been selling out in recent months by performing at Rock4EB! alongside singer-songwriter Dallas Green. The pair headlined the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation’s annual fundraiser by performing as you + me, their onetime side project. The event, held at the hilltop home of Brillstein-Entertainment Partners leader Marc Gurvitz, was a star-packed affair set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, hosted once again by Judd Apatow and featuring a (savage) stand-up set by Jim Jefferies.

Special because of the elements. The guest list included Brad Pitt, Courteney Cox, Kaley Cuoco, Tom Pelphrey, Elizabeth Olsen, Charlie Hunnam, Damien Chazelle, Ed O’Neill, Jackson Browne, Kim Basinger, Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Aj Michalka, Aly Michalka and Catherine Bell,...

The Democrats Are Winning the Record Store Battle

Argue all you want about last night’s contest between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. But there’s no debating the fact that the Democrats are fiercely ahead in an equally important battle: the crate-digging wars.

After taking a few photos of what was in stock, like rare...

Every Song In Forrest Gump
Image
The Forrest Gump soundtrack features iconic songs from a wide variety of music artists, including Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. The movie chronicles the life of the title character, a warm-hearted man from Alabama who takes a tour of 20th-century American history. Throughout his travels, he fights in the Vietnam War, meets a handful of U.S. presidents, invests in Apple on the ground level, and exposes the Watergate scandal. Along the way, Forrest Gump uses needle drops on its soundtrack to reflect the changing times.

Some songs on the Forrest Gump soundtrack are used to establish the period setting, like Jimi Hendrix and Buffalo Springfield underscoring scenes of the Vietnam War, while others are more integral to the plot, such as when Elvis sings one of his biggest hits to show off the dance moves he learned from Forrest. The soundtrack of Forrest Gump was a...

Robbie Robertson’s Family Feud: Inside the Late Rock God’s Inheritance Drama
Image
On a rainy Nov. 15, 2023, a small group of music and film luminaries gathered at the Village Recorder, the famed studio housed in an old Masonic temple in West L.A. where everything from Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk to Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle was recorded.

Among them were Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Lily Gladstone, Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne. They had come to celebrate the life of Robbie Robertson, legendary frontman of The Band, successful solo artist and prolific film score producer for whom the studio was like a second home. Robertson had died three months earlier after an excruciating battle with prostate cancer — long in remission but back with a vengeance in 2022 — that had spread to his spine and brain. He was 80.

Scorsese emceed the memorial, in which he tearfully spoke of his brotherhood with Robertson. The director, 81, was a longtime collaborator of Robertson’s, having helmed the seminal 1978 rockumentary The Last Waltz,...

The Go-Go's "We Got the Beat" kicks off the movie and its upbeat pop style helps set the tone. The Tom Petty classic "American Girl" helps present Stacy as the true lead character of the movie and establishes this as her coming-of-age story.

The Fast Times at Ridgemont High soundtrack is full of great songs by such legendary musical artists as Led Zeppelin and Stevie Nicks. The movie charts a year in the lives of a group of students at the titular high school as they endure strict teachers, entry-level jobs, and awkward early sexual encounters. Cameron Crowe adapted the script from his book of the same name, which was based on Crowes own experiences undercover at...

Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill Review – A Brilliant Light Rediscovered
Image
Judee Sill’s story is one of raw talent and inner turmoil. Born in the 1940s, she showed an early gift for music even amidst a troubled family life. By her teens, drug use and crime saw her cycle through jail and the streets. Yet music remained her guiding light. Gaining recognition in the L.A. folk scene, Sill signed with Asylum Records in the 1970s, a star-studded label home to the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt.

While contemporaries found fame, Sill’s complex songs defied radio formatting. Her self-titled debut and Heart Food earned critical praise, yet sales stalled. Personal issues spiraled too, and asylum cut ties. By 35, Sill was found dead—her light extinguished—decades before her full genius would become clear. That’s where Lost Angel steps in to shine a light.

Directors Andy Brown and Brian Lindstrom piece together Sill’s rich legacy through archival material and interviews with collaborators.

‘Silvio Dante Helped End Apartheid!’: Stevie Van Zandt Looks Back at His Wild Life
Image
For filmmaker Bill Teck, the hardest part of making a documentary about the life and career of Little Steven Van Zandt was just fitting it all in. “It’s just a complicated life,” says Teck, who directed the new documentary Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple, streaming now on Max. “Silvio Dante helped end apartheid!” In addition to his work in the E Street Band with Bruce Springsteen, Van Zandt was the writer and producer behind Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ great 1970s albums; a solo artist backed by his band,...

Stevie Van Zandt and the Art of Not Giving Up
Image
Stevie Van Zandt is full of contradictions, but owns them. The E Street Band member, songwriter, activist and producer is uncompromising when it comes to creative ideas, charging forward on a vision even when it leads to commercial dead ends. Yet he’s also an insider’s insider with a rolodex of heavyweight artists, executives and directors willing to sing his praises or line him up to punch up a song or a soundtrack.

He’s burned bridges — yes, including walking out on Bruce Springsteen’s group right before Born In the U.S.A.’s big payday; going all-in on a solo career that, in his own words, yielded no hits — yet also mended them. His late-career renaissance as an actor, plucked out by David Chase to be Sil on The Sopranos, looks less improbable when realizing that Van Zandt always seems to have a few irons in the fire.

‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ Cast Was to Perform Live at 2023 Lollapalooza Before Strike
Image
The cast of Daisy Jones & The Six were set to take the stage once again according to series star Suki Waterhouse.

Waterhouse shared in a YouTube vlog on Thursday from the 2023 Lollapalooza festival that she along with the cast, which also included Sam Claflin, Riley Keough, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon and Will Harrison, were supposed to perform at the Chicago-based music festival last summer.

“That whole thing was planned, we got people visas, like, it was an operation. And then the SAG strike happened, so we all decided that we should not perform at Lollapalooza,” the actress and singer recalled. Amid the strike, guidelines stated that the union’s affected members would be prohibited from all principal on-camera work — including acting, singing, dancing and stunts — on top of off-camera work, such as voice-acting and narration. All promotional activity such as interviews, award shows and podcasts were also not allowed by union members at the time.

Master P: Music Is the Lifeblood of New Orleans. Let’s Pay the People Who Make It Possible
Image
Master P is one of the most successful rappers and producers of all time, but like any other recording artist, he’s never earned a dollar in royalties for when his recordings get played on U.S. radio stations. This is because for as long as radio has existed, U.S. law hasn’t required stations to pay the performers on songs, only the songwriters. It’s a uniquely American phenomenon as markets in many other countries have paid both creators for years.

Master P thinks the answer comes from...

Wild Life, Brilliant Talent: Genius Of Singer-Songwriter Judee Sill Honored In Documentary ‘Lost Angel’
Image
Singer-songwriter Judee Sill packed a lot of living into her 35 years, much of it hard. Drugs, reform school, losing her father when she was just 8. Of her mother she said, “She was mean on top of being dumb.”

In her late teens, in the early 1960s, she got involved with a bad hombre in Southern California and they pulled off a few armed robberies. In one incident, she reportedly told a guy behind a liquor store counter, “Okay, mother sticker, this is a fuck up!” Humor she did not lack.

As a child Sill learned piano at an upright in a saloon owned by her dad. She mastered other instruments, including bass and guitar. In juvenile hall – where she was sent after an arrest for forging checks – she played the organ. Somehow, through cracks in the unpolished concrete of a difficult youth, a flowering talent emerged. She could draw, she could sing,...

Hear Zac Brown’s Heartfelt Adios to Jimmy Buffett ‘Pirates & Parrots’
Image
A few months after the death of Jimmy Buffett, the Zac Brown Band is paying tribute to their friend with a new song, “Pirates & Parrots.” “We’re all here missing you,” Brown sings, “All the pirates and the parrots sing, ‘So adios my friend, anchor where that ocean ends.” The song, which evokes Buffett’s easy-breezy permanent vacation vibe, features an appearance by singer-guitarist Mac McAnally, who is a member of the late Parrot King’s Coral Reefer Band.

Brown premiered the tune last Thursday at a tribute concert called...

From CinemaCon To Cannes: Has The New Oscar Season Rung Its First Bell?
Image
It has only been one month since the 96th Academy Awards ended, but this week it looks like the race for the 97th has (un)officially begun.

Say what???

Even though Emmy season is in full force (Deadline’s two-day Contenders Television live and livestream event takes place this weekend), it’s never too early to start a new Oscar season. That is why I traveled to Las Vegas this week to squeeze in CinemaCon — that movie orgy convention of what studios have in store for us — in between last Sunday’s roaring Bruce Springsteen concert at the Forum and last night’s rocking “Keep The Party Going: Jimmy Buffett Tribute” at the Hollywood Bowl.

By the way, I spotted more Hollywood heavyweights in Bowl boxes Thursday night than even at CinemaCon, including Ted Sarandos, David Zaslav, Bob Iger, Jennifer Salke, Frank Marshall (even playing guitar on stage in the...

Los Angeles, Feb. 16, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Valerie Carter, the late Southern California vocalist, is reimagined in a stunning new remake of The Faragher Brothers 1976 classic hit, “Never Get Your Love Behind Me,” on Faraphonic Records in conjunction with Cowboy Angel Records. In this exciting collaboration, the Valerie Carter Estate and Faragher Brothers have joined forces to bring a retro soul single to life. This special release is recorded with a special twist—the inclusion of Valerie Carter’s original vocals from 1977 intended for her Columbia Records album, “Wild Child.”

Following up on the recent “Lost Tapes” releases by Valerie Carter in 2018 (Vol 1) and 2022 (Vol 2), once again Val’s close friend, music producer Kathy Kurasch, and sister Jan Carter, have rediscovered unreleased material.
