- A childhood model from the age of two, he was the Arrow Collar Boy, the Buick Boy and the model for Buster Brown shoes. Began in silent films from the age of ten, later playing juvenile leads in collegiate movies and romances.
- Enlisted in the US Army in World War II and served as a paratrooper. He also served during the Korean War with the 40th Infantry Div., where he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel.
