"It Just Doesn't Let Up": Michael Fassbender Teases 'The Agency' Season 2
Image
If The AgencySeason 1 was a fraught, anxiety-inducing experience, brace yourself for an even tenser Season 2. Michael Fassbender stars in and executive produces the Showtime spy thriller show, and he recently appeared on a Deadline panel where he discussed the much-anticipated second season. The show improves on its first season as the spy world becomes even more secretive and the stakes are upped. "It just doesn’t let up in Season 2. The walls just keep coming in, and the vice grip keeps getting tightened," the actor said. "That tension and that jeopardy just heightens all the way through without any let up in the second season," he added, teasing a never-wracking second season. The show was already renewed for a new season that is currently in production.

Fassbender plays Martian in the thriller based on the hit French drama Le Bureau des Legendes. In Season 1, Martian, a covert CIA agent, is...

Jason Statham's 'The Bank Job' is a Streaming Hit on Starz
Image
Jason Statham is the darling of streaming right now, and another of his decade-old action thrillers is back on top with the 2008 heist movie The Bank Job holding a strong position near the top of the Starz global movie chart. Led by the ever-popular Brit and directed by Roger Donaldson, the plot centers on a real-life 1971 robbery that took place in London and has baffled authorities for decades and is the perfect vehicle for Statham, even if he doesn’t get to go vigilante this time around.

Being inspired by true events, the film was a more intriguing title in Statham’s catalog of gangster movies and no-brainer action flicks, and that seemed to help it become a box office success and made it one of Statham’s most underrated and overlooked performances. The plot sees Statham playing small-time crook Terry Leather, who takes on a job without expecting to...

The character has seen many adaptations starting 1932's The Mummy, with Boris Karloff, as well as the modern adaptations starring Brendan Fraser between 1999 and 2008, and the failed 2017 film starring Tom Cruise. New Spy Thriller With 89% Approval From Audiences Becomes Streaming Hit
Image
Days after debuting, a new spy thriller has quickly established itself as a hit. The subgenre is experiencing a bit of a resurgence in streaming, with shows like Peacock's The Day of the Jackal, the Apple TV+ dramedy Slow Horses, and Netflix's recent Black Doves which stars Keira Knightley and Ben Winshaw. Each of those shows comes from a notably different storytelling angle, though they've all managed to stand out. Boosted by positive reviews, Black Doves may be among the best yet, a thriller that unfolds over the Christmas holidays and features a hilariously abrupt kill scene early on.

There are also other series that fall into the category, albeit with slight variations. The Night Agent is soon returning to Netflix for a second season, on January 23, though it will look markedly different and feature a largely new cast. The Recruit, more of a comedy, led by Noah Centineo,...

‘The Agency’ Renewed For Season 2 At Showtime After Record Debut Weekend

The Agency has scored a quick Season 2 renewal at Showtime after a monster debut weekend.

The first two episodes of the espionage thriller have racked up 5.1M global “viewers” on streaming and linear since premiering on November 29. Paramount Global says it’s Showtime’s most-streamed new series in history, though streaming-specific numbers weren’t available.

(While Paramount is touting viewers, it’s important to note that, on Paramount+, the company can’t determine how many people are watching via a single stream, or if anyone is actually watching at all. This likely means that Paramount is using “active sub households” as a proxy for streaming viewers.)

W1A premiere review: BBC's self-flagellating satire finally hits its stride
When held up to the heady heights of its BAFTA-winning spiritual predecessor Twenty Twelve, the first series of W1A fell short on occasions.

But with a new series opener in which a high-level management power struggle starts simmering alongside the usual japes, hi-jinks and gaffes at Broadcasting House, the BBC's self-flagellating satire is at last hitting its stride.

Hugh Bonneville's still the star of the show as Ian Fletcher, keeping a sharp focus on charter renewal as his contemporaries in the Way Ahead Task Force fall over themselves (almost literally at one point) to get one over on their professional rivals. There's whispers of a new senior post at stake, and everyone seems to have their eye on it.

Following his fall from grace at the end of the last series after a newspaper sting exposing both his handsome salary and close relationship with his former Olympic Deliverance Commission Pa Sally,...
