Paul Simon returned to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday for a performance of “The Sacred Harp” from his most recent album, 2023’s Seven Psalms. The 83-year-old singer also sat down with Colbert for an interview.

While backed by a string section, Simon delivered a tender performance of the track with an assist from his longtime partner and renowned musician in her own right, Edie Brickell. Together, they transformed the song into a gorgeous duet.

Actor Richard Gere has sold his New Canaan, Connecticut, home for $10.75 million in preparation for a move to Spain.

Actor, comedian, and musician Martin Mull, known by many as Gene Parmesan, Private Eye, from “Arrested Development” or Colonel Mustard from “Clue: The Movie,” died Thursday at the age of 80 according to an Instagram post shared on Friday by his daughter, TV writer Maggie Mull.

MGM+ has announced the acquisition of the two-part docuseries “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon, debuting on the streamer on March 17 and March 24 at 9 p.m. Edt/Pdt. It focuses on the career of musician Paul Simon.

Per the docuseries’ description, “In Restless Dreams” “juxtaposes Simon’s process of making a new album during the Covid-19 pandemic against archival material tracing Simon’s career and creative journey, including revelatory, previously unseen footage from such historic moments as the recording of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and ‘Graceland,’ Simon & Garfunkel’s unforgettable reunion concert in Central Park, and, 10 years later, Simon’s solo concert there, where he performed before 750,000 people.”

Making appearances in the docuseries are “Saturday Night Live” creator and producer Lorne Michaels, Simon’s wife and singer Edie Brickwell and composer Wynton Marsalis.

I raise the issue only because “In Restless Dreams” has come into the Toronto Film Festival without a distributor, and let’s just be honest: The 209-minute running time, when you hear about it, doesn’t exactly sound…user-friendly. Gibney, of course, is one of the renaissance masters of contemporary documentary, a filmmaker of staggering skill and eclecticism. Brad Houser, the Texas-based musician who played bass in the longtime jam band Edie Brickell and New Bohemians, has died at age 62. The artist suffered a stroke on July 17th and passed away on the 24th.

The loss occurred while he was recording his new album, Seven Psalms. He assumed that this was temporary and that his hearing would return, but so far that has not been the case. “Quite suddenly, I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it,” he told the London Times. “So everything became more difficult.”

At first, Simon was frustrated with his hearing loss, but because he thought it would pass, he was not angry.

Now, he has to face the possibility that he may not be able to perform again.

Singer-songwriter Paul Simon, who at 81 has just released his 15th studio album, titled Seven Psalms, has revealed a recent hearing loss in his left ear and says the condition has left him doubting he’ll tour again.

In an interview with UK’s The Times, Simon said the hearing loss struck while he was writing the new album. “Quite suddenly, I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it,” he told the publication. “So everything became more difficult.”

The Graceland singer said he was more frustrated and annoyed than angered by the hearing loss “because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself.” The condition, however, has not improved, and he now has doubts that he’ll perform live again, a decision reinforced by both a 2020 bout with Covid and his lack of enthusiasm for singing some of his old songs.

Produced by Simon and Kyle Crusham, Seven Psalms sees the legendary singer-songwriter play various acoustic instruments. He’s joined by singer Edie Brickell, as well as the British vocal ensemble VOCES8.

Because the composition is meant to be heard as a single piece of music, Simon didn’t preview Seven Psalms with any singles. However, the artist did share a trailer for the project, in which he revealed the idea for the music came to him in a dream. “On January 15th, 2019, I had a dream that said, ‘You’re working on a piece called Seven Psalms,'” he recalled. “The dream was so strong that I got up and I wrote it down. But I had no idea what that meant.

Paul Simon follows his muse wherever it leads him, whether that meant leaving Simon & Garfunkel at their commercial peak, or opening his debut solo album with “Mother and Child Reunion,” a reggae track recorded in Kingston a full year before the Wailers released Catch a Fire, or helping South African township jive go international with Graceland. Nobody expected him to do those things, and similarly, no one was expecting the 81 year-old singer-songwriter’s newest release—Seven Psalms, a 33-minute suite whose title and concept literally came to him in a dream.

Farm Aid announced today that the organization will mark its 35th anniversary with a virtual at-home festival experience.

Farm Aid 2020 On the Road, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 to 11 p.m. Edt, will include performances from more than 20 artists. The 3-hour event will be streamed at FarmAid.org, on Farm Aid’s YouTube channel, Axs TV and fans.com.

Austin rock duo Black Pumas have shared a reverent cover of Tracy Chapman’s 1988 classic, “Fast Car.” The band — which comprises singer Eric Burton and guitarist Adrian Quesada — has regularly covered “Fast Car” during their live sets.

Premiering on June 10th at 9 p.m. E.T., the two-hour benefit will feature performances by Nelson, Simon, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt and Boz Scaggs, Edie Brickell, Norah Jones, Black Pumas, Gary Clark Jr., Britt Daniel, Lukas Nelson, Charlie Sexton with Doyle Bramhall II and more.
