Arthur Bremer

Shot George Wallace in Laurel, Maryland, USA on 15 May 1972, paralyzing him. Originally sentenced to 63 years in prison for his crime, was reduced to 53 years on appeal.
The character of Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver (1976) is modeled on Bremer and his diaries, which were published in the mid 1970s.
Released from prison before dawn on 9 November after serving 35 years of his 53-year sentence. He earned his mandatory release through good behavior and by working in the prison.
Incarcerated at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown, MD. Due to be released in 2025 at the age of 75. Could theoretically be released in 2015 for good behavior.
