Was going to co-star with Gerald McRaney in the series, 'It's Not Easy', but when McRaney's previous series, 'Simon & Simon', was renewed at the last minute, McRaney had to drop out to go back to it. So, the series was placed on hold until they could find a replacement. And while waiting, Breeding had his fatal car accident. So, the show was on hold again, and eventually began with Ken Howard and Bert Convy in their respective roles.

Breeding was driving his sports car down a freeway when his vehicle lost control and crashed into a concrete post. He died instantly. Witnesses claimed that Breeding appeared to be driving normally.
