Monica Breckenridge began her career as an actor in New York City's thriving independent film community. Headquartered at the prestigious Tribeca Film Center, she later served as executive director of the Black Filmmaker Foundation, development director for the Hudlin Brothers at Sony Pictures, and as an entertainment consultant with her own firm.
Now she's reclaiming her time in the spotlight with a return to acting. She's currently living in LA and booking for TV, film, commercial, print, and web. Welcome back Monica!
Monica oversaw monthly BFF programming with film screenings at Lincoln Center, acting workshops at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and also created a monthly artists' showcase and industry lounge which sold out to venues throughout the city. During her tenure, she hosted star-studded galas for the NY film premieres of Boyz in the Hood, Do the Right Thing, New Jack City, Malcolm X, and many others. She has served as a panelist and programmer to international film and art festivals, and as a key executive on films as diverse as Boomerang (with Halle Berry and Eddie Murphy), to Bebe's Kids, an animated feature. A frequent speaker and contributor, Monica has appeared in The New York Times, The LA Times, Premiere Magazine, Variety Magazine, and the Hollywood Reporter.
In 2001, after a life-changing event, Monica stepped into the world of high finance with Smith Barney in Beverly Hills. There, she determined to get her own house in order as a single woman and practiced full-service financial planning, with a focus on inter-generational wealth for blacks and women in the industry.
Monica is a native of Beckley, West Virginia. She earned her B.A. in economics from Duke University and studied in Europe before settling in New York City. She speaks fluent Spanish, and has traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, with her most recent adventure to the continent of Africa. Monica currently lives in Los Angeles with her with husband of 20+ years, sharing their passion for live music, art, culture, and world affairs. She maintains a limited consulting practice and enjoys singing gospel, dining al fresco and occasionally, even pretending to cook.
