10 Star Trek Voyager Characters Can Make Prodigy A True Sequel
Image
Star Trek: Prodigy has always been a stealth sequel to Star Trek: Voyager, but the addition of 10 classic characters could make the continuation more explicit. Prodigy season 2 will continue the story of the young Starfleet hopefuls led by Admiral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), as they work to rescue Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) and the missing crew of the USS Protostar. Now that Dal R'El (Brett Gray) and his young team are working directly with the real-life Janeway instead of a hologram, there's a possibility that they could interact with more characters from Voyager.

Actor Garrett Wang has recently stated that his Star Trek: Voyager character, Harry Kim belongs to Star Trek: Prodigy. This creates the possibility that more Voyager characters will appear in Prodigy as Janeway seeks help in locating Chakotay and his missing crew. Star Trek canon has established that, except for Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), many members of...

BloodList Names 2021’s Best Unproduced Horror Scripts; Village Roadshow Nabs Two
Image
The BloodList, an annual ranking of the best unproduced horror and genre screenplays, has published the 13th edition of its “Fresh Blood” series just in time for Halloween.

The reveal was made on Friday by Village Roadshow Pictures and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, who earlier this year announced a first-look partnership to mine the list for feature films. BloodList was created by Kailey Marsh, who is a literary manager and producer at Brillstein.

The two projects that Village Roadshow has selected for development are “On the First Day of Christmas” by Casey Giltner and “Zero Feet Away” by Jose Nateras. Gitner’s script follows a little girl who begins receiving sinister Christmas presents coinciding with the traditions of “The 12 Days of Christmas.” In Nateras’ script, a young man’s love life is complicated by his identity as a gay, Mexican American, and werewolf — while his actual life is put in danger...

6 Month Rule Movie Review
Blayne Weaver
Title: 6 Month Rule Director: Blayne Weaver Starring: Blayne Weaver, Natalie Morales, Martin Starr, Patrick J. Adams, Jaime Pressly, John Michael Higgins, Dave Foley, Vanessa Branch As it gets out of the starting gate, “6 Month Rule,” from writer-director-star Blayne Weaver, seems like it’s going to be an Eric Schaeffer-type cinematic exercise, infused with a pinch of ”Swingers.” After all, multi-hyphenate Weaver contrives situations for him to make out with multiple women, postulates a strict theory about dating and relationships, and puts himself at the center of a universe in which others’ feelings, need and wants are all secondary piffle, collateral damage to be shrugged off. His movie gamely rallies from the [ Read More ]...

51 and SyFy's Look Behind the Gates: A Movie Review
Director: Jason Connery.

Writers: Kenny Yakkel (story), Lucy Mukerjee.

Cast: John Shea, Vanessa Branch, Lena Clark, Damon Lipari, Jason London, Rachel Miner and Bruce Boxleitner.

Nearly everyone wants to know what lurks behind Area 51, the mysterious hangar base that rests in southern Nevada. With the help of the SyFy’s "After Dark" label and writer Kenny Yakkel, the two are attempting to provide some fictional answers. In the case a simply titled film, 51, maybe those answers are best left behind closed doors.

After political pressure from the American public, the Air Force has finally relented and is letting in a handful of journalists to visit the base. But to no one’s surprise, things go awry. Some of those secrets want out.

That also includes some of the characters like Col. Martin (Bruce Boxleitner), the base commander. He is not thrilled that he has to give reporter Sam Whitaker (John Shea...

A Conversation With the Director and Cast of '6 Month Rule'
We're always grateful when filmmakers take a moment out of their schedule to share their stories with Tmp. This week at the Austin Film Festival we were able to sit down with Writer/Director/Actor Blayne Weaver and a few cast members from his new film '6 Month Rule'.

Congratulations on the world premiere of your new film 6 Month Rule. Could you tell us a little bit about it?

Blayne - It’s about a guy who’s kind of a womanizer and he comes up with these rules on how to avoid emotional commitment which he actually feels is the biggest mistake you can make. His best friend gets dumped by his fiancée so my character kind of takes him under his wing trying to lead him down this path of cynicism and avoiding any kind of emotional attachment.

What is the backstory of the film? As in, what inspired the story?...

6 Month Rule | Review - Austin Film Festival 2011
Director: Blayne Weaver Writer: Blayne Weaver Starring: Blayne Weaver, Martin Starr, Natalie Morales, Patrick J. Adams, Vanessa Branch, John Michael Higgins, Dave Foley The titular six month rule is one of many rules created and adhered to by Tyler (Blayne Weaver). It essentially states that after six months, anyone can recover from any relationship. Of course Tyler is a womanizing, commitment-phobic jerk who is unable (and unwilling) to maintain a relationship with any woman for more than six months. Heck, who needs a commitment when you have a sexy blond model, Wendy (Vanessa Branch), who waits around her apartment in lingerie hoping you will stop by for a "no strings attached" quickie? So, yes, of course Tyler would think relationships are not essential and easy to recover from! But then fate rears its hand and determines that Tyler will meet Sophie (Natalie Morales) -- who instead of being his "usual...

Figure It All Out in Trailer for ’6 Month Rule’
Rules are made to be broken – especially stupid, self-imposed rules that apply giant blanket statements to something as unique and weird and changeable as love itself. In Blayne Weaver’s 6 Month Rule, writer and director Weaver also stars as Tyler, dude about town, rakish ladies’ man, (somewhat) drunk photographer, and a steadfast believer in a set of rules that he thinks keep their followers from romantic heartbreak. The most important of those rules? There’s no woman so perfect that you can’t get over her in six months. That’s a snappy rule, right? Great way to gird yourself from emotional upheaval? Of course. Tyler really thinks he’s got it all figured out. Until he doesn’t. In the film, Tyler inevitably falls in love (with the very charming Natalie Morales), but their “spooky synchronicity” is made complicated by her douchebag musician boyfriend (Patrick J. Adams) and the albatross that is his heartbroken best friend...

Farris Patton Is Living Her Dream as the Orbit Girl
Farris Patton didn't want to be a movie star. She wanted to be in commercials."When I was a kid, my mom would watch soap operas, and I'd be watching the commercials and mimicking every single thing," Patton remembers. "Everything I did was a commercial, from brushing my teeth to taking a drink of soda. There's all these home videos of me doing, like, a Dr Pepper commercial."Today she's living a "commercial actor's dream" as the spokeswoman for Orbit gum in its 10-years-and-running "Dirty mouth?" campaign. In April 2010, Patton replaced Vanessa Branch, who originated the role, as the Orbit Girl, a charming British woman who cleans up dirty mouths with Orbit gum.The company wanted to find someone very similar to Branch for the part. To prepare for her audition, Patton watched YouTube videos of Branch's work and went to the callback dressed in the character's standard white suit and scarf,...

Exclusive: Jason Connery Talks 51
Jason Connery’s Area 51 – previously titled 51 – is set to debut February 26th on the Syfy Channel as part of the After Dark Originals lineup. We caught up with the actor-turned-director to chat about his contribution to the terrain of cinematic extraterrestrials. Dig it!

Chris Haberman: You shot entirely in Louisiana - How did the shoot go?

Jason Connery: “It was great. It’s obviously slightly strange to shoot a film that’s [set] in the desert in a swamp, but a lot of the work was interior and we shot in a disused mattress factory, which actually had a huge warehouse. So we had an exterior in the back, which looked like a military air base.”

Ch: I spoke with [51 actress] Rachel Miner, who was impressed with how much you were able to do and so quickly.

Jc: “The thing is, the first film I shot, I had 12 days to shoot it.

SyFy and After Dark are making quite the team. They premiered Husk, which was met with great success. The latest one is 51, which is set to premiere on the network this Saturday, February 26th....

Feed the Fish | Review
Director: Michael Matzdorff Writer: Michael Matzdorff Starring: Tony Shalhoub, Barry Corbin, Ross Partridge, Katie Aselton, Michael Chernus, Vanessa Branch, Carlos Kotkin Joe (Ross Partridge) is a children’s book author, but his first book series -- which starts with Mr. Kitty Feeds the Fish -- grinds to a screeching halt when he is overcome by writer’s block. (It is a crying shame because we are told that parents love the moral lessons in Mr. Kitty Feeds the Fish, while their kids love the violence.) Bills have been piling up around his Los Angeles apartment and his publisher wants the advance back for Joe’s much overdo second book. We can only assume that the constant bitching and nagging of his cold and heartless Hollywood girlfriend, Lorraine (Vanessa Branch), is to blame for Joe’s lapse of creativity and ambition. When Lorraine flushes Joe’s best friend -- a goldfish -- down the toilet,...

Tyler Watts lives by certain rules. The most important is the “6 Month Rule” which states that there is no woman you can’t get over in six months. When his best friend gets dumped, Tyler takes him under his wing and sets out to teach him the rules of being single. As he educates his reluctant pupil, Tyler meets a girl who makes him question everything he thinks he knows.

That’s the official synopsis for Blayne Weaver’s (Weather Girl) new film 6 Month Rule. Starring Weaver, Jamie Pressly, Scott Foley, Martin Starr, Dave Foley, John Michael Higgins and Vanessa Branch, the movie wrapped about two months ago and they’re aiming to premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.
