Andrey Boltnev is a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor. Spent his childhood and youth in the port cities of Sevastopol and Tuapse, and upon receiving a passport he changed his patronymic and surname. During his school years, he actively participated in amateur performances. In 1970-1972 he studied at the Yaroslavl Theater School. After graduating from college, he worked at the Drama Theater of the Red Banner Far Eastern District (1973-1976), the Adygea Drama Theater named after Alexander Pushkin (1976-1978) and the Novosibirsk Drama Theater 'Red Torch' (1978-1985). In 1985, he graduated in absentia from the Tashkent Theater and Art Institute named after Aleksandr Ostrovskiy.

He first appeared on the silver screen in 1983, playing the role of Captain Gavrilov in the film Les torpilleurs (1983) by Semyon Aranovich. But what made Boltnev truly popular was his work in the television series Protivostoyanie (1985), based on the novel of the same name by Yulian Semyonov, where Andrey played one of the main roles - the traitor Krotov. The actor gained wide popularity during the period of perestroika, when Aleksei German's film Mon ami Ivan Lapchine (1985), created back in 1984, was released, where Boltnev played the main role.
