But “Peacemaker” is far from the first successful DC show. The comic book brand has had a long, storied history on television, with a number of hit series in both live-action and animation across various networks.

Emmy Icon James Burrows Carries the Torch for Multi-Cam Sitcoms, but He’s Scared They’re Dying
Image
James Burrows is by far the preeminent person in the world of TV comedy directing, with 27 all-time nominations in the category versus only 10 for runner-up Jay Sandrich. But on the heels of that 27th nomination, for Hulu’s “Mid-Century Modern,” the 84-year-old director isn’t feeling optimistic about his specialty, the once popular but now increasingly marginalized multi-cam sitcoms.

Filmed in front of a live studio audience, those shows ruled the airwaves in years past and include many of the most successful series in television history. Burrows had a hand in lots of them, directing multiple episodes of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Cheers,” “Taxi,” “Frasier,” “Friends” and “Will & Grace” — and reminiscing just makes him sadder, as multi-cam sitcoms have largely been replaced by single-camera shows shot on stages or on location without an audience.

“I’ve been to the funeral for the multi-camera comedy about nine times,” Burrows said.

Wednesday Actor Recalls ‘Unsettling And Awful’ Moment With Bryan Cranston
Image
Wednesday actor Hunter Doohan is opening up about one particular struggle he went through at the start of his career. He feared his identity as a gay man would be discovered after taking steps to hide it - and he even hid it from his Your Honor co-star, Bryan Cranston.

Although Hollywood is a much friendlier place for gay actors now than it has been in the past, Doohan wasn't ready to come out. He actually went through his Instagram account and hid pictures of himself and his husband, such was his fear. Now, he's spoken to Zach Sang on The Zach Sang Show (via PinkNews) and explained what life was like for him in the early days of his career.

First came the difficult process of auditioning for Your Honor, which Doohan spoke about. “It was the first time I’d done a network test, and they were really scrutinising.

Showtime’s Best-Kept Secret Is a Thriller Romance With 90% Rt Score That’s Flying Under the Radar
Image
Showtime’s Fellow Travelers tells a romantic thriller story that transcends both time and genre, ticking every box while remaining deeply, unexpectedly personal. With an impressive 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and numerous award nominations, this series refuses to choose between charm and suspense.

Spanning from the McCarthy-era ‘Lavender Scare’ to the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, it centers on the decades-long relationship between Hawkins Fuller (Matt Bomer) and Timothy Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey). Released in fall 2023, this series is not just about two men in love; it is also about how love, fear, ambition, and history collide to shape lives.

It’s not just a courtroom drama — it’s scrappy lawyers, big gambles, and emotional haymakers, all wrapped in “how the hell did they pull that off?” energy.

And because it’s coming to USA Network, it’s worth remembering… this network used to own high-stakes, high-entertainment TV. Think Suits, White Collar, Psych — shows that made you care just as much about the characters as the cases.

The Theatrical Comedy Is So Back: Kristen Wiig and Jonah Hill Will Star as Freeloading Siblings in WB’s ‘Cut Off’
Image
Straight-up comedies have struggled to find a foothold in theaters since the pandemic, but after last weekend’s encouraging “The Naked Gun” launch and this weekend’s promising “Freakier Friday” prospect, it looks like studios are ready to invest in comedy all over again.

The pair will play adult siblings forced to adjust to real life after their parents stop paying for them. Ezra Woods co-wrote with Hill, who will also direct. “Cut Off” will hit theaters on July 17, 2026, placing it as counter programming to “The Odyssey,” which — of course — already has sold out advance IMAX screenings for that date, 11.5 months ahead of its actual release.

Cut Off: Kristen Wiig to star alongside Jonah Hill in a comedy about getting left high and dry
Moritz Bleibtreu, Fahri Yardim, Lars Eidinger, and Jasna Fritzi Bauer in L'inciseur (2018)
I can’t imagine what it’s like living on Easy Street. Having everything handed to you sounds nice, but I’d miss the satisfaction of an honest day’s work after a while. I say that, but part of me would love it if someone else took the lion’s share of my bills and responsibilities. For the upcoming comedy Cut Off, Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiig are two people who are about to know what it feels like to have everything taken away. Today, we’re hearing that Kristen Wiig will star opposite Jonah Hill in the film shooting this fall, set for a global release on July 17, 2026.

Cut Off‘s release date is bold, considering it’s the same weekend that hosts Christopher Nolan’s next epic, The Odyssey. That’s some stiff competition, even if The Cut Off is a different genre of filmmaking. Ezra Woods is co-writing The Cut Off,...

Production designer Greg Grande: ‘Mid-Century Modern’ holds its own against single-camera giants: ‘It’s almost like a big theater you’re creating’
Image
" It’s always an honor to be nominated," Emmy-contending production designer Greg Grande declares about his sixth career Emmy nomination, this time for Mid-Century Modern. But, as he explains in Gold Derby's Meet the Experts: TV Production Designers panel, he was pleasantly surprised on the morning the nominations were announced, because "this format, the multi-cam format, up against these beautiful single-camera half-hour shows -- is tough to be head-to-head against. My first reaction was, ‘wow, I'm glad it holds its own, but in a completely different format; a completely different situation in how we build the sets and how we shoot them and our budgets." Rob Lowe, who went viral in March for a fiery take on the challenges of shooting projects in Los Angeles, has returned to the city to shoot an independent film titled The Musical.

The beloved performer will star opposite Gillian Jacobs and Tony Award winner Will Brill in the dark comedy for director Giselle Bonilla and writer Alexander Heller. Filming is underway in Los Angeles, which is hoping for an uptick in local productions thanks to tax incentives, particularly for independent features, as previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Superman 2: James Gunn Can’t Surpass This 100% Rated Movie That’s the Perfect Sequel
Image
In a perfect world, the 2013 animated movie, Superman: Unbound, would be the perfect successor to James Gunn‘s Dcu debut feature. The film has all the qualities and story elements suited to follow up Clark Kent’s story from his early rise in Metropolis and fight against Lex Luthor and his clone, Ultraman.

Unbound is upbeat, optimistic, full of hope for the future, has a deep-rooted connection to Kryton throughout the movie’s arc rather than keeping it as a one-and-done forgotten backstory, and above all, boasts a villain formidable enough to single-handedly capture and beat Superman.

If that alone does not make it a spiritual successor to the Dcu Superman, then what else qualifies?

Will There Be a ‘Fellow Travelers’ Season 2? Details Inside
Image
Since the Fellow Travelers finale aired, fans have been eager to know if there will be a second season. While Showtime has not cancelled the show officially, the network has also maintained silence about its renewal. Although over a year has passed, there is no news regarding the series’ cancellation or its return for Season 2.

Showtime brought the historical romance drama to life in late 2023. Based on Thomas Mallon’s 2007 novel of the same name, the show followed the story of a closeted gay couple, the charismatic Hawkins and the submissive Timothy, spanning several decades, starting with the 1950s.

Soon after its release, Fellow Travelers became a hit with fans, especially those from the LGBTQ+ community. Viewers were impressed with the sensitivity with which creator Ron Nyswaner had depicted some of the most important events in queer history, from the Lavender Scare of the 1950s to the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

Forgotten 36% Rotten Tomatoes Sci-Fi Thriller Starring Cillian Murphy Is a Sleeper Hit on Streaming
Image
The great cinematographer Roger Deakins is quite selective these days; even more so after winning two Oscars. He works only on massive tent poles, or on new films directed by past collaborators. But in 2011, between shooting the Coen Brothers' True Gritand Sam Mendes' Skyfall, Deakins shot a science-fiction thriller that earned terrible reviews, had little impact on the cultural landscape, but marked a career-altering first for him. Directed by Andrew Niccol, the movie In Time did fairly well at the box office and is now rising up the HBO viewership charts.

According to FlixPatrol, it was the seventh-most-watched film on HBO on July 8, ahead of Jordan Peele's Get Out, the cult classic Napoleon Dynamite, and the recent animated film The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. Chris Pratt & Denzel Washington's 9-Year-Old Remake of 1 of the Greatest Westerns Ever Made Is Climbing the Streaming Charts
Image
Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt have had a series of successful projects each, but their joint Western wasn't a big success. The action-packed Western The Magnificent Seven was a remake of the 65-year-old Western of the same name, and it didn't achieve the same acclaim as the original.

The Magnificent Seven premiered on Sept. 8, 2016, and it came from Washington's frequent collaborator, Antoine Fuqua, with whom he worked on The Equalizer trilogy and 2001's Training Day. Although The Magnificent Seven featured the two big movie stars and had critically acclaimed director attached to the project, the Western didn't impress. However, The Magnificent Seven is finding a new life on streaming, as it's currently rising on the charts on MGM+, per FlixPatrol.

The Magnificent Seven has been fluctuating in the charts on MGM+. The Western has recently risen three positions up to seventh place after spending the last few days in ninth and tenth place,...

Jurassic World Rebirth Star Jonathan Bailey’s Coming Out Story and Dating Life Explored
Image
Jonathan Bailey is back, and this time, he’s trading Bridgerton ballrooms for dinosaur bloodbaths and red carpet kisses. The Jurassic World Rebirth premiere in London saw the dashing actor locking lips with co-star Scarlett Johansson, sending paparazzi into a frenzy and fans into full rom-com hallucinations.

“Life’s too short not to kiss your friends,” Bailey told Entertainment Tonight. Regardless, please don’t get the wrong hints; he had already opened up about his sexuality, love life, and his deep-rooted decision to come out: first privately, then proudly. The Fellow Travelers star has never shied from speaking his truth, even when Hollywood whispered otherwise. “F— this,” Bailey once shared with GQ about hiding his love life. “I’d much prefer to hold my boyfriend’s hand in public.”

Now playing Dr. Henry Loomis in the blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, Bailey is stealing scenes on-screen and stealing hearts off it.

12 Best TV Shows Like White Collar
Image
One of the most popular original shows produced by the USA Network was "White Collar," which ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2014. The show saw notorious con artist Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) agree to serve as a full-time consultant for the FBI in apprehending other white collar criminals. This leads to an unlikely partnership between Caffrey and FBI Special Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay), who reluctantly works with Caffrey in investigating crooks around New York City. "White Collar" quickly proved successful with audiences, with fans lauding the uneasy dynamic between Caffrey and Burke, while singling out Bomer's standout performance.

With its relatively light-hearted tone and odd couple procedural partnership, "White Collar" has plenty of shows that feel similar to it. Many of these shows also aired on the USA Network, echoing its tone and production values, while some just focus on a mismatched pairing. Here are the 12 best TV shows...

Nathan Lane: If Trump Knew ‘Mid-Century Modern’ Was on the Air, He’d ‘Shut It Down’
Image
“Mid-Century Modern” star Nathan Lane is fully embracing his sitcom’s queerness. Moreover, he feels that it’s a necessity for mainstream television in the current, divisive political era. In an interview with Deadline, Lane called such “joyously gay” series necessary for the good of the nation.

“I just think it’s healthy for the environment,” Lane said. “Look, there are 365 million people in this country. This is not a show for everybody. Just as ‘Yellowstone’ has its demographic, we have ours. And it’s not going to be to everybody’s taste because it is naughty and because it’s so joyously gay, without shame, and just reveling in their gayness. That’s upsetting to some people, but I think it’s healthy and it’s great for people to see that men of a certain age are still out there living their lives openly and freely and having...

Making of ‘Mid-Century Modern’: How comedy legends created Hulu’s freshest sitcom starring Nathan Lane and the late Linda Lavin

Crafting a hit comedy is all about collaboration, and Mid-Century Modern proves just that. Hulu’s multi-cam sitcom, set against the vibrant Palm Springs aesthetic, benefits from decades of combined expertise poured into every frame by its talented behind-the-scenes team.

Led by co-creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan (Will & Grace), the all-star crew of this freshman series shares their insights in an in-depth discussion about the making of Mid-Century Modern. The panel features legendary director and co-executive producer James Burrows, editor Peter Chakos, cinematographer Gary Baum, and production designer Greg Grande. (Watch the full Making of Mid-Century Modern panel above.)

In Mid-Century Modern, Nathan Lane plays Bunny, a successful bra designer who invites his pals Jerry (Matt Bomer) and Arthur (Nathan Lee Graham) to spend their golden years living with him in Palm Springs after a close friend dies unexpectedly. Darren Criss Scores Third Straight Tony for ‘Glee’ Stars but Will ‘Chess’ Make It Four?
Image
Glee makes it three straight at the Tonys.

When Darren Criss picked up a Tony Award on Sunday night for best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical for his turn in Maybe Happy Ending, the veteran star became the third straight Glee alum to win a trophy on Broadway’s biggest night. He followed hot on the heels of Jonathan Groff, who won his first Tony last year for Merrily We Roll Along (and he was nominated this year in the same category as Criss for Just in Time), and Alex Newell, who won best featured actor in a musical for Shucked in 2023.

The best spy comedy TV shows to stream if you like your missions messy and fun
Image
Big action, bad decisions, and sharp jokes — these spy comedies have it all.

Comedy’s always been my thing — but I like it even more when there are secret missions, fake identities, and explosions in the mix. Spy comedies just hit different. You still get the cool world-building, slick action, and bad-ass leads, but now they’ve got sharp one-liners and totally chaotic side plots. I’m talking about shows where the agents are just as likely to ruin the mission as they are to save it — and somehow, that’s the fun. If you’re into smart, fast, funny shows with a little danger on the side, these are the seven best spy comedies streaming right now.

Top 7 spy comedy TV shows on streaming right now:

No. 7: ‘White Collar’

No. 6: ‘Kleo’

No. 5: ‘Chuck’

No. 4: ‘Killing Eve’

No. 3: ‘Archer’

No. 2: ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’

‘Mid-Century Modern’ Set Tips Its Hat to Classic Palm Springs and Pop Culture
Image
Imagine you’re the production designer of a legendary sitcom so beloved that there is an entire pop-up experience devoted to it. And then try to imagine topping that. Greg Grande is the literal architect of Central Perk, Monica and Rachel’s apartment and Joey and Chandler’s across-the-hall domicile in “Friends.” But his impressive throwback Palm

Springs, California, home featured in Hulu’s “Mid-Century Modern” might win a new legion of admirers and maybe another pop-up at some point — only this one will have a grotto.

“The backstory of this set came from the Dinah Shore estate,” said Grande, speaking of one of architect Donald Wexler’s signature Palm Springs houses from the 1960s. That 1.3-acre steel-beam oasis inspires the look of the comedy,

created by “Will & Grace” showrunners Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. In the series, three lifelong gay male friends share a home owned by the...

5 Things You May Not Know About Gavin Creel: How Did He Die?
Image
Gavin Creel wasn’t just a Broadway star, he was the kind of person who lit up a room before he even hit his first note. With a voice that could melt hearts and comic timing that could bring down the house, he stole the show in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hair, She Loves Me, Hello, Dolly!, you name it.

But Creel was more than a killer voice and an awesome actor. He was a fierce advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, a co-founder of Broadway Impact, and the kind of guy who cheered hardest for everyone else. In 2024, he faced a rare cancer, and he passed away far too soon at 48, but his legacy, his laugh, and his kindness are still center stage in the hearts of everyone he touched. Here are 5 things you may not have known about him!

1. Tony Award-winning Broadway icon!

Although this is no news but, Gavin Creel...

10 Best Actors Who Almost Played Superman
Image
Much like the actors who play James Bond, Spider-Man, or Batman, securing the gig of Superman is a pretty big deal. The world's attention lasers in on the chosen one, as everything about the person is dissected and scrutinized in full public view. "He's not tall enough." "Where's the curl in his hair?" "Are those real muscles?" "Why doesn't he look like the actors playing Pa and Ma Kent?" Yes, the last one is a hilariously real comment posted on social media about David Corenswet's Clark Kent, and if you know, you know. Hopefully, the paycheck for this role more than compensates the performers for having to deal with the constant tomfoolery surrounding it.

Then there are the actors who almost received the chance to put on the red cape, but it didn't happen for whatever reason. They're a rare breed who could have left their own mark on...

9 Years Later, Action Fans Are Still Waiting for a Sequel to This Underrated Buddy Movie (That's Coming to Paramount+ in June)
Image
In 1987, Shane Black created the acclaimed buddy cop action franchise Lethal Weapon for Warner Bros. Roughly 30 years later, Black tried to launch a new buddy action franchise for Warner Bros. with The Nice Guys starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. Unfortunately, despite rave reviews, the movie flopped at the box office, killing any hope for a sequel.

Now, almost a decade later, The Nice Guys is heading to Paramount+, with the streamer's subscribers able to watch the movie beginning June 1. Set in Los Angeles in 1977, The Nice Guys follows down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March (Gosling) and hired enforcer Jackson Healy (Crowe) as they are brought together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley, Keith David, and Kim Basinger appear in supporting roles in the buddy action comedy.
