David Christopher Loya
PRODUCED, DIRECTED, WRITTEN AND EDITED BY David Christopher Loya

"Beyond the Moonwalk"® is a must-see compelling, pop culture odyssey that reveals the untold story of the amazing, but un-credited street dancers who not only taught Michael Jackson "The Moonwalk" and other moves; but then went on to directly influence the greatest performers of our time. These are many of the same dancers appearing next to Michael on all his music videos.

Today these artists remain largely mired in obscurity. However, their untold phenomenal influence on today's hip-hop, pop-music culture is unmistakable. Michael Jackson wasn't the only superstar whose performances were derived from the original dance moves by these unheralded artists. What's more, the legacy of these dancers can be traced to the evolution of a street movement that began as far back as 1970.

Beyond the Moonwalk is a high energy, fun, cinematic quest that tells a four decade long story of a pop culture we thought we knew, but in reality was sculpted by the most unlikely of heroes. And, it's more than a single movie. Beyond the Moonwalk is a branded entertainment franchise that includes a docudrama motion picture, a documentary, a six part mini-series and ongoing ancillary properties .

INTRODUCTION - A multiple award-winning cinematic storyteller, David Christopher Loya is a veteran Cannes Marché du Film accredited filmmaker whose over two-decades worth of accomplishments span virtually all genres in an artform he's passionately committed to.

David has produced, written, directed and edited hundreds of productions comprising a large body of work that includes commercial and episodic productions, broadcast documentaries, national and regional commercial spots, promotional, employee training, and marketing productions for Fortune 500 companies, as well as compelling fundraising films for world renowned universities and international nonprofits.

AWARDS AND ACCOLADES - A partial list of David's production awards includes 20 Silver and Gold Tellys, as well as finalist honors at the New York Film Festival and the Banff World Television Festival. And his screenplays have been recognized by over 60 accolades in acclaimed entertainment industry competitions.

These include wins in the New York International Film Festival. The American Filmatic Arts Awards, the Los Angeles Film Awards, and coveted semifinalist placements in both the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards (top 2%), and the Austin Film Festival (top 2%), a finalist nomination for The Warner Bros TV Pilot Award, and a finalist placement in the Creative Screenwriting Television Pilot Screenplay Competition, among dozens of others.

As a reflection of these achievements, his work ranks in the Coverfly Top 1%. Coverfly is the industry's most respected professional platform for tracking the quality and marketing viability of over 120,000 scripts in its database. His original series pilot, Esperanza, has even reached Coverfly's Top 50, out of over 15,300 one-hour television scripts.

ETHOS AND PERSONAL BACKGROUND - Dedicated to his trademarked Conscious Filmmaker(TM) ethos, David's writing focuses on characters of color confronting and overcoming high-stakes obstacles. He describes his unique writing brand as "diverse renegades shattering status quos." Moreover, his screenplays have been distinguished by their themes of hope, love, and perseverance

Raised by a valiant single mother in an LA housing project, David attributes his accomplishments to her resilience, and unwavering belief in him. Because of her steadfast devotion to his education, he was awarded a UCLA Alumni Scholarship and was the first in his family to graduate from a four-year university.

A second-generation Mexican American, David strives to give voice to the marginalized and disenfranchised via film and television media that challenges paradigms and connects deeply with a diverse and international audience.

FILMOGRAPHY AND ACHIEVEMENTS - Within the genres previously mentioned, the full scope of David's directing, producing, and writing portfolio encompasses internationally broadcast dramas, as well as reality and magazine segments which have aired on CBS, NBC, PBS, Nickelodeon, Bravo, the History Channel and A&E. From early in his career, David demonstrated an unparalleled ability to engage audiences. For example, as a producer for the syndicated series, 'Emergency Call', the segments he produced, wrote and edited consistently delivered the show's highest Nielsen ratings.

His documentary work has included directing and producing the acclaimed PBS special The Big One - The Truth About the San Andreas (New York Festivals' Finalist and Telly Gold Award Winner); serving as line producer for the A&E Series First Flights with Neil Armstrong; producing and directing Journey of Loss... Discovery of Hope (Telly Gold Winner); and directing and producing the multiple award-winning NFL sports documentary The Moss Method focusing on the legendary New England Patriots Wide Receiver, Randy Moss.

Notably, The Moss Method holds an IMDb rating of 8.5 and was listed as one of the top 20 Sports Documentaries of All Time. Moreover, the film had a direct influence on the New England Patriots' decision to trade for Randy Moss, contributing to a historic undefeated season.

As a pioneer in the application of compression and streaming within multimedia environments, David also produced and directed groundbreaking interactive productions including Voices - Rock and Roll's Invisible Instrument, an award-winning, interactive multimedia exhibit for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that toured across the United States.

In the commercial and corporate realm, David has created dozens of successful, award-winning marketing, training, PR, and fundraising films for large corporations and international non-profit organizations. These include Sony Pictures, The Walt Disney Company, Columbia Pictures, MGM, Microsoft, The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Mayo Clinic, Sprint International, TCI/Liberty Media, NASA, The Cleveland Clinic, Lockheed, Sunkist, World Vision International, Aramark, William M. Mercer, Prudential, National Medical Enterprises, The Salvation Army, eHarmony, Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, Beckman-Coulter, Amnesty International, Harvard University, UCLA, and others.

David's evocative storytelling has not only garnered award-winning critical acclaim, but has also proven to be impactful, often leaving audiences deeply moved and motivated to act. Films he's written, directed, and edited have played a pivotal role in development campaigns - for educational institutions and international nonprofits - that have successfully raised over $1 billion in donations, while leveraging his transcendent cinematic style.

INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE AND THOUGHT LEADERSHIP - A seasoned presence in the international film market, David has been an accredited Cannes Marché du Film filmmaker presenting at seven Cannes Marché du Film and concurrent Festival de Cannes events, as well as numerous other global film gatherings including multiple TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), EFM (European Film Market), and AFM (American Film Market) conferences. His ventures have led him across continents, from North America, Europe, Australia and even the Middle East, where he was invited as part of a select group for a Dubai Cinematic Innovation Summit. There he participated with industry luminaries like Andy Serkis and Stephen Lang.

Outside the film circuit, David has addressed a diverse range of groups in various speaking engagements. He's regarded as a thought-leader in the realm of the evolution of conscious media for positive global transformation. His prowess extends beyond the stage to corporate and institutional boardrooms, where he has successfully marketed his production services to key decision-makers in multiple industries. Whether presenting to industry professionals, C-suite executives, or standing-room-only ballrooms, his visions resonate deeply across varied platforms, demonstrating a multi-faceted influence and reach.

CONSCIOUS FILMMAKER(TM) APPROACH AND RENEGADE LENS - David's focus on authenticity in performance and cinematic execution was successfully registered through the U.S. Patent and Trademark office as the Conscious Filmmaker approach to production. He is the only filmmaker in the United States who has held the Conscious Filmmaker(TM) registered trademark. Based in Burbank, CA, the media production capital of the world, David is the founder and lead director/filmmaker of Renegade Lens Pictures. Renegade Lens is an original content production company that "defiantly imagines a world positively transformed."

Its mission statement is to create timeless, commercial, original motion picture and television media that entertains, electrifies, and enlightens - while elevating humanity, affirming the value of people's lives, and connecting deeply with the audience. David is now attached to direct several theatrical films being produced by Renegade Lens.
