Incredible Western TV Shows Canceled After 1 Season
Image
The Western genre may not be as popular as it once was, especially on television, but that doesn't mean there aren't great stories still being told on the medium. Popular Western shows like Deadwood and Justified were consistently thrilling and garnered many fans in the process. On the other hand, there are stellar Western shows that have fallen under the radar because they only lasted one season.

Whether because of low ratings, an inability to find a larger audience or the narrative told everything it needed to, these series were axed after their sole season. Regardless if the shows originated in the modern era or before the 21st century, they remain a welcoming treat for Western genre fans. From cult classics like Firefly to underrated miniseries like The Good Lord Bird, these Western shows provided amazing storytelling in a single season.

Brisco County Cast and Character Guide
Image
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. ran for just a single season in 1993, but it quickly developed a cult following thanks to star Bruce Campbell and a quirky steampunk concept. The show also featured classic Western tropes such as train robberies and high-noon-style shootouts that weren't prevalent at the time. Episodes can be downloaded from Amazon Prime and other outlets.

The pilot sends the title character after notorious outlaw John Bly to avenge the death of his father, Brisco County, Sr. And along the way, he becomes entangled in the search for a mysterious Orb that contains great power and great danger in equal amounts. Brisco County also features a series of strange clockwork inventions, some of which are provided by Brisco's ally, Professor Wickwire. The cast formed a big part of the show's appeal, with Campbell leading a bevy of funny and talented supporting performances.

Billy Drago in True Blood (1989)
Billy Drago, who played Frank Nitti in Brian De Palma’s “The Untouchables,” died in Los Angeles on Monday from complications of a stroke, his agent confirmed to TheWrap. He was 73.

Born William Eugen Burrows Jr. in Kansas, Drago took his stage name from his grandmother’s maiden name. After a brief career as a radio host, he joined a theater company that took him to Canada and New York before starting his screen career in 1979 with the TV movie “No Other Love”

Drago had guest TV roles on shows like “Hill Street Blues” and “Walker, Texas Ranger,” and in 1985, he earned a role in Clint Eastwood’s “Pale Rider” as one of six corrupt deputies who meet their end at Eastwood’s gun.
