Angie Black is an award-winning independent Australian filmmaker and director. Their debut feature film, THE FIVE PROVOCATIONS (2018) premiered at The Melbourne Queer Film Festival, was likened to 'a Luis Buñuel or David Lynch film' at the Adelaide Film Festival and is distributed internationally by Label Distribution. Black is a recipient of the 'Film Victoria's Independent Filmmaker Fund' for which they directed the award-winning short film BOWL ME OVER (2001) winner best comedy St Kilda Film Festival and distributed by Palace Films. Their work has screened at festivals around the globe, including Locarno, Frameline and Melbourne International Film Festivals. Notable shorts include DISNATURE (2012), finalist experimental film at the ATOM Awards, and BIRTHDAY GIRL (2008) winner audience award WOW International Film Festival and selected for DARK WHISPERS VOL.1 (2019) Australian Women's Horror Anthology. Black is the recipient of two Film Victoria Directors' attachments and has directed television commercials, nationally and internationally. Black is a Senior Lecturer in Film & TV at VCA, University of Melbourne and specialises in filmmaking as practice-led research. They are a graduate of the Swinburne Film School, has a MA in screenwriting and a PhD on performance approaches in film production.
