Real Reason Why ‘The Equalizer’ on CBS Will Not Return for Season 6
Image
While many of us are aware of the 1985 crime drama series The Equalizer, created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim, or the Denzel Washington starrer The Equalizer trilogy on CBS, there is an equally tantalizing remake of the Og series starring Queen Latifah as the enigmatic Robyn McCall.

Having debuted in 2021 with a high-profile premiere following the 2021 Super Bowl, the series has captivated audiences with its blend of high-octane action, compelling drama, and a strong female lead using her skills to deliver justice. The modern reimagining of the Og series, CBS’ The Equalizer carved out a unique niche for itself in the genre, earning mostly positive reviews from fans and critics alike.

After five brilliant seasons, the show has amassed a loyal fan base and has fans rallying behind Latifah’s portrayal of the former CIA operative-turned-vigilante. Yet, even with the passionate fan following and cultural significance, the show has...

Per Deadline, Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz are on board to guest star in an upcoming episode of the Queen Latifah-led series. The two will specifically appear in the 16th episode of the show's current fifth season. They have reportedly signed on to potentially star in a spinoff as series regulars if the new show moves forward, but it hasn't been officially greenlit by CBS just yet. The Equalizer 2021 Cast & Character Guide
Image
The Equalizer cast carried the television adaptation through its five seasons, proving the series about someone helping people who can't help themselves is just as popular now as it was when the original series aired in the 1980s. Based on the original series of the same name starring Edward Woodward, the CBS reboot features Queen Latifah as a former CIA operative who seeks justice on her own terms in New York City. The Equalizer retains the spirit of the original series, along with the movie franchise starring Denzel Washington, but gender-swapped the lead to Robyn McCall instead of Bob McCall.

In the pilot, Robyn (Latifah) helps a young girl, Jewel Machado, who becomes mixed up in a murder conspiracy. Robyn considers returning to the CIA but would rather spend time with her teenage daughter, Delilah, while moonlighting as a Big Apple vigilante. The show has changed up the cast somewhat...

The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah lands on Netflix in December 2024
Image
Even though the end of the year is near, Netflix isn't slowing down a bit with bringing exciting new content to our watch lists. On top of the streamer's own original series and movies still to come before the calendar turns to 2025, there's still a few tricks up its sleeve by way of acquisitions. Another hit CBS procedural series will make its way to Netflix in December 2024.

According to a report from What's on Netflix, the first three seasons of The Equalizer will begin streaming on Netflix in the United States on Monday, Dec. 16. The series, which is led by Queen Latifah, hasn't been available to stream on another platform except Paramount+ since its premiere on CBS in 2021, but with a Netflix deal in place, its audience will definitely get bigger.

The crime drama procedural has enjoyed stable ratings for its entire run, making it one of the most popular shows on the small screen.

Why Chris Noth's William Bishop Left The Equalizer
Image
When Chris Noth appeared in the January 2, 2022, episode of The Equalizer titled "Separated," it was, ironically, for the last time. Noth was fired from the series soon afterward following a series of accusations of sexual assault that The Hollywood Reporter unearthed.

In the aftermath of these shocking revelations, Chris Noth vehemently denied the accusations made against him, but it was too little, too late. CBS chose to have the character of William Bishop written off The Equalizer before the end of its Second Season. Here's how and why the series moved on from Chris Noth.

Aside from a modern tech angle and a couple of references to racial justice, The Equalizer's entire pilot episode couldve come right out of the '80s.

The Equalizer Season 5: Cast & Character Guide
Queen Latifah
After four seasons, Queen Latifah has established The Equalizer as a quality mainstay of epic entertainment proportions, but is that really that surprising?

It's Queen Latifah!

The Equalizer has certainly come a long way since it first premiered in 2021, but the show has only gotten better without ever losing sight of its source material or straying from the aspects of the series that make fans tune in every week.

While she could go back to her CIA days, Robyn prefers to balance her time as a badass vigilante in the Big Apple with being a cool mom to Delilah, her teenage daughter.

The show mixed things up over the first three seasons, especially by swapping out Chris Noth due to off-screen drama.

Western TV shows like Yellowstone and 1883 are reigniting interest in the genre and preserving its legacy. The Western genre's characters, setting, and themes reflect America's history, highlighting struggles and corruption, making for interesting TV shows. The Western genre has seen many live-action depictions of some of history's most famous and infamous lawmen and outlaws, but there are plenty of historical figures on both sides who haven't received a live-action TV show adaptation. The Popular Actor Who Almost Beat Out Chris Noth For His Law & Order: Svu Role
Image
Before he was Mr. Big on "Sex and the City," Chris Noth was a lead on a little show called "Law & Order" from 1990-1995 and appeared in 111 episodes. He'd later reprise his role as Detective Mike Logan in the "Law & Order" spinoff film, "Exiled," in 1998 and the spinoff series "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" for another 36 episodes from 2005-2008, per IMDb. Prior to "Law & Order," Noth had several acting credits to his name. The series is what began a lengthy career for him with a number of prominent roles.

So imagine if Noth didn't end up starring in the series after being associated with the show and the leading man for years? Well, that was almost reality. Noth nearly lost out on the part in favor of Michael Madsen, an actor you may know from his numerous appearances in Quentin Tarantino films, according to Mental Floss.

Kino’s Noir boxes offer interesting noir-adjacent crime and mystery pix. This seventh return to the well of darkness brings up the organized crime ‘meller’ Chicago Confidential with Brian Keith and the more ambitious The Boss, starring John Payne and written by Dalton Trumbo. The third show The Fearmakers is a real oddity. Starring Dana Andrews and directed by Jacques Tourneur, it’s a political conspiracy tale about manipulating opinions with fraudulent polls. Queen Latifah and Florin Penișoară in The Equalizer (2021)

“He has no country, no allegiance, or conscience,” McCall says while describing the villain. “Assassinations, kidnappings, overthrowing governments—he’ll do anything for a price.”

As the case begins to unravel, McCall reveals Bishop once gave her a folder on Quinn though he...

How Chris Noth’s Character Was Written Off ‘The Equalizer’
Image
Spoler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Pulse,” the April 10 episode of “The Equalizer.”

Chris Noth was fired from CBS’ “The Equalizer” in December after being accused of sexual assault by two women. On Sunday, the drama revealed how Noth’s character, William Bishop, was written off the Queen Latifah-led show.

The last episode of “The Equalizer” that Noth appeared in was the Season 2 episode “Separated,” which aired Jan. 2 and was filmed prior to him being dropped from the series on Dec. 20. Six episodes have aired since that installment, none of which featured Noth’s Bishop, including tonight’s “Pulse,” which gave the in-universe explanation for where the character has been and concluded with his off-screen death.

During Sunday’s episode of the second season of “The Equalizer,” former CIA operative Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah) learns that Bishop, her mentor and a former CIA director,...

The Equalizer: Jada Pinkett Smith to Reunite With Queen Latifah on Upcoming Episode
Queen Latifah
Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith will share the screen very soon!

The real-life friends will reunite on-screen for an upcoming episode of The Equalizer.

Smith will appear on the CBS procedural as Jessie Cook, a well-known thief with an eye for detail.

She's unpredictable, devious, and amoral, which should make for an exciting episode of the series.

Latifah's character, McCall, has already worked with Jessie, so they go way back.

However, they both butted heads in the past, vowing never to work together again due to their very different beliefs.

Sounds fun, right?

The pair have worked together on several projects in the past, including Set It Off and Girls Trip.

No details have been revealed about when the episode will air, but the series is on hiatus until Sunday, February 27, due to the Olympics.

The Equalizer is a reboot of the classic series, with Latifah taking on the role of an equalizer.

‘The Equalizer’: Chris Noth’s Final Episode Provides Satisfactory Conclusion For His Character William Bishop
Image
Chris Noth made his final appearance on the CBS drama The Equilizer on Sunday night’s episode titled, “Separated,” a source confirmed to Deadline.

It was announced on Dec. 20 that Noth had been fired from the Queen Latifah-led series amid multiple accusations of sexual assault against the Sex and the City and Law Order alum. He has denied the allegations.

In last night’s episode, Noth’s character William Bishop pulled a Hail Mary move to save a colleague who was ready to take the fall for his involvement with Bishop and Latifah’s Robyn McCall’s top-secret dealings. The jailbird was Harry Keshegian (Adam Goldberg), a hacker extraordinaire who was arrested by the FBI for breaching the CIA’s confidential files.

“Bish, he got caught because of us and he kept both of our names out of it,” Robyn, a former CIA operative turned vigilante, tells her old friend.

Chris Noth's time on The Equalizer is over.

For two seasons, the actor has played William Bishop on the CBS procedural, opposite Queen Latifah's Robyn McCall.

“Chris Noth will no longer film additional episodes of The Equalizer, effective immediately,” CBS and Universal Television, which produces the series, said in a statement Monday.

Noth will be seen in one original upcoming episode of the series that has already been filmed, as well as future encores of episodes that have already aired, but will no longer be a part of the show. CBS and Universal TV had no further comment.

In a detailed investigation by The Hollywood Reporter published last Thursday, two women, under the pseudonyms of “Zoe” and “Lily,” separately approached the publication months apart and shared their sexual assault allegations against Noth. They alleged that the incidents occurred in Los Angeles in 2004 and New York in 2015.

Noth denied the allegations in a statement to THR, calling them “categorically false” and claiming the encounters were consensual.

Queen Latifah Is Back in Action in ‘The Equalizer’ Season 2 First Look (Video)
Image
Queen Latifah is back to “equalize” wrongdoings in the first look at The Equalizer Season 2, which premieres on October 10 on CBS. Based on the 1980s series of the same name, Queen Latifah stars as Robyn McCall, “an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn.” McCall’s voiceover opens second season first look trailer, saying, “There are things in this world, things that no one should have to experience. And it is my job to make them right.” After an intense bank robbery and police shootout, Tory Kittles’ Detective Marcus Dante calls her for help. “I want your help. There’s something I need equalized.” Teaming up with Dante to take down bad guys, Chris Noth’s William Bishop offers McCall a piece of warning advice. “Going up against guys like this, watch your back,” he tells her. Following those words of caution,...

CBS TCA Trailers: The Equalizer, NCIS: Hawai'i, & More!
Denzel Washington in Equalizer (2014)
CBS dropped some trailers for some of its upcoming series during its turn at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

We'll start with The Equalizer.

Will McCall be able to bounce back after the events of The Equalizer Season 1?

If the official trailer for The Equalizer Season 2 is to be believed, she's going to be in for a rough ride.

We see Robyn preparing to give it up ... until she gets a call from Marcus.

If you watch The Equalizer online, you know Marcus was very much against what Robyn was doing, but all of that changes after a traumatic event.

The series stars Queen Latifah (Robyn McCall), Tory Kittles (Detective Marcus Dante), Adam Goldberg (Harry Keshegian) ,Liza Lapira (Melody “Mel” Bayani), Laya DeLeon Hayes (Delilah), Lorraine Toussaint (Viola “Vi” Marsette), and Chris Noth (William Bishop).

Check out the clip below.

Equalizer's Laya DeLeon Hayes Teases Consequential Episode: A Black Girl Can't Do What Her White Friends Can
Image
If you listen closely to Robyn McCall’s teenage daughter Delilah on CBS’ The Equalizer (Sundays, 8/7c), she might sound familiar.

That’s because, up until last year, Laya DeLeon Hayes, the young actress who plays Delilah voiced the title character on Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins. Now she’s using that same sweet voice to give her mom Robyn (played by Queen Latifah) all the snark and back chat she can handle and then some.

Queen Latifah: 'Black Women Have Been Equalizing for Years and Years, From Hatshepsut to Kamala Harris'
Image
Queen Latifah is using everything in her arsenal to bring the titular Robyn McCall to life on CBS’ The Equalizer (Sundays, 8/7c).

The former rapper and singer relies on her musicality when it comes to fight sequences, and her sense of justice as someone who was bullied as a kid growing up in Newark, New Jersey. But when it comes to being the first Black woman to take the lead in the franchise’s history, on either the big or small screen, Latifah (née Dana Owens) is tapping into her genetic memory.

‘The Equalizer’ Review: Queen Latifah’s Return to Scripted TV Should Land with CBS Demo, but No Further
Image
In CBS’ New York City-set re-imagining of the 1980s series “The Equalizer,” starring the late Edward Woodward as the stoic menace with a populist message, multi-hyphenate Queen Latifah plays Robyn McCal. She’s an enigmatic former CIA operative who uses her particular set of rather extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn. As yet another one of CBS’ exhumations of classic last-century crime/drama series, this “Equalizer” feels thoroughly unoriginal. There are a number of callbacks to the original series, which the reboot relies on primarily (not the Denzel Washington movie adaptations), but they probably won’t mean anything to new audiences.

Like the male “Equalizer” characters, Latifah’s McCall is a former intelligence operative for the CIA who became disillusioned with the government’s methods and opted for civilian life. What prompts her to enter a new career of reformer is a chance entanglement with the...

‘The Equalizer’ Teaser: Queen Latifah Protects The Defenseless In Teaser For CBS Series
Image
Queen Latifah makes her debut as an under-the-radar crime fighter in the teaser for CBS’s The Equalizer.

The teaser, which dropped on Saturday, unveils the secret life of Latifah’s Robyn McCall. When Robyn’s daughter asks her about abrupt departure from work, Robyn shares the ever-popular nonanswer: “It’s complicated.” However, clips of Robyn protecting herself and others from dangerous situations prove otherwise.

Robyn’s daughter, however isn’t the only one seeking to learn more about her new side gig. Chris Noth’s William Bishop warns that the CIA is also on the hunt for answers as Robyn takes on a new, dangerous lifestyle. While Latifah’s Robyn hesitates to answer questions about why she’s decided to be a new hero, she knows exactly who she is and isn’t afraid to share it.

“I’m the one you call when you can’t call 911,” Robyn...

The Equalizer Reboot TV Series Release Date, Trailer, and Cast
Queen Latifah
Queen Latifah is making The Equalizer into a “Ladies First” small screen platform come February with the launch of her starring role on CBS’s reboot series of the classic 1980s crime procedural. The series will appropriately join the Eye Network’s other currently running ‘80s reboots MacGyver and Magnum P.I.

Richard Lindheim, co-creator (with Michael Slone) of the Eye Network’s original 1985-1989 television series, is back as co-creator and executive producer, joined in that capacity by star Latifah herself. The series will operate under showrunners Terri Miller and Andrew Marlowe, who are also credited creators/executive producers.

Of course, The Equalizer is coming off a cross-media Renaissance of sorts, having spawned two successful action movie offshoots from director Antoine Fuqua—released in 2014 and 2018, respectively—starring Denzel Washington as grizzled vigilante Robert McCall, a character reinvented from the late Edward Woodward’s classic small screen version. Likewise, Latifah...
