Netflix has released the official trailer for the upcoming movie The Six Triple Eight, in which Kerry Washington leads the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII.

The Tyler Perry movie, which he wrote and directed, will be released in select theaters on December 6 ahead of a streaming release on December 20.

The nearly four-and-a-half-minute music video, which The Hollywood Reporter is debuting exclusively, features H.E.R. performing the song in concert intercut with clips of the upcoming film.

Writer/director Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight just unveiled a full trailer ahead of its December 6, 2024 limited theatrical release. The film tells the inspirational story of the only Women’s Army Corps unit of color in WWII who were given the seemingly impossible task of getting hundreds of thousands of letters to the troops from their families at home.

“Ladies, we have been ordered to provide hope. The soldiers have not heard from their loved ones, and their loved ones have not heard from them,” says Major Charity Adams (played by Kerry Washington) in the trailer. “When there is no mail, there is low morale.”

“This is our mission. And we will not fail,” Major Charity Adams (Washington) declares quayside as the 855 Black women and women of color of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion march forward at her command to board a ship taking them to battle.

Their mission was to sort through a three-year backlog of mail — 17 million letters in all — yet to be delivered to American soldiers overseas, to restore morale on the front lines.

The Netflix biopic is part of an effort to give the 6888th battalion belated recognition for their heroism as they overcame discrimination to complete their letter-posting duties well ahead of schedule.

While Tyler Perry is not usually known for historical dramas, he tries his hand at spotlighting a lesser-known element of World War II. The highly-anticipated Netflix feature is written and directed by Perry, who based the film on the article “Fighting A Two-Front War” by Kevin M. Hymel. The piece was published in WWII History Magazine by Sovereign Media.

“The Six Triple Eight” is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Washington portrays Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. The Visitor will follow a man whose life descends into chaos after he finds an old portrait of his doppelganger in his wife's childhood home. The film is directed by Justin P. Lange from a script by Adam Mason & Simon Boyes. The latest collaboration between Blumhouse and Epix is the horror film The Visitor, which will be available on Digital and VOD as of October 7th before reaching Epix in December. The cable channel has announced that Saints & Sinners: Judgment Day, the TV series' first movie, will air on Sunday, February 14th. The movie will bridge to the fifth season of the Saints & Sinners series which will launch on Sunday, April 11th.

Set against the backdrop of a large southern church, Saints & Sinners revolves around the pursuit of power, intertwined with greed, deception, corruption, compromising sexual affairs, and murder. The series stars Vanessa Bell Calloway, Donna Biscoe, Clifton Powell, Tray Chaney, Keith Robinson, J.D. Williams, Jasmine Burke, Dawn Halfkenny, and Karon Joseph Riley. Gregory Alan Williams joins the cast in season five.

Bounce has renewed Saints & Sinners for a fourth season for premiere in summer 2019. The network today also announced a new licensing agreement with Hulu for the first three seasons of the hit drama series, making all previous episodes available for streaming ahead of the Season 4 premiere. The deal marks the first time originally-produced content from the multicast network will be available on the premium streaming service.
