Rob Reiner was on a roll. His first film, This Is Spinal Tap, was a comedy tour de force and unleashed the mockumentary form on pop culture. He followed that up with the well-received John Cusack romantic teen comedy The Sure Thing. The studios came calling — and the young filmmaker was hoping his passion project, an adaptation of a favorite book given to him by his father, comedy icon Carl Reiner, would be his next feature.

“After these first two movies, I get a meeting with Dawn Steel, who was the head of Paramount at the time,” Reiner recounted during the Directors on Directing panel with Paul Feig at San Diego Comic-Con. “And she says to me, ‘What do you want to do next?’ And I said, ‘Well, I have something that I want to do, but I don’t know if you’re going to want to do it.

They’re back! The first official trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has dropped, and we see the lads from the legendary British rock band reunite for one last gig.

In the clip, we see filmmaker Marty Dibergi catch people up with what’s happened to Spinal Tap since his first film, This Is Spinal Tap. We then see the central Tap trio of Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) all looking their age and leading rather sedentary lives, in stark comparison to their past lives as stadium rock gods. The trailer then shows us efforts by the band to reunite for one last hurrah, including their efforts to recruit a drummer suicidal enough to play the gig, their merchandising efforts and whether one (or two) of them dying on stage would help boost publicity for the gig and cement their legacy.

Sydney Sweeney looks unrecognizable in the first look of Christy, an upcoming biopic about legendary boxer Christy Martin. The Euphoria star had previously shared an image of herself flexing muscles in an orange outfit. Still, the recent one is an officially released image, and captures a completely different side to the actress.

Directed by David Michôd and co-written with Mirrah Foulkes, Christy features the boxer’s journey from becoming the most famous female boxer in the ‘90s to surviving an attempted murder by her husband in 2010. The Christy biopic is already generating buzz, and it’s all thanks to Sydney Sweeney’s jaw-dropping transformation.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group marketing president Jp Richards and co-president Keri Moore are leaving the company. The move is effective immediately and was revealed Monday afternoon.

Their roles will not be filled immediately, and in the interim the group’s EVPs — Amanda Kozlowski, EVP Strategy & Chief of Staff; Jack Teed, EVP Global Creative Advertising and Nasim Cambron, EVP Worldwide Publicity — will help lead global campaigns. Lionsgate Mpg chair Adam Fogelson will also take on a more active role in overseeing the department.

The news comes less than a week after Lionsgate upped motion picture production president Erin Westerman to president of of the Motion Picture Group, replacing Nathan Kahane who is moving at year’s end into a production deal with the studio.

“In looking at our slate ahead, we have decided to re-approach our marketing group to meet the needs of a rapidly changing market,” Fogelson said in a statement Monday announcing the news.

Erin Westerman has been named president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, taking over, as expected, from the departing Nathan Kahane.

Westerman will oversee all aspects of the development, production and physical production of Lionsgate’s theatrical slate and will report to Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson.

News that Kahane would be leaving Lionsgate by the end of this year, when his contract expired, was reported in May. He has now transitioned to a producing deal with the company.

Erin Westerman has been formally named president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, replacing Nathan Kahane after he recently announced plans to step down by the end of the year.

Kahane’s pending move back to film producing opened the way for Westerman, most recently president of production and development, to take over all studio production under Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson.

Kahane has been Motion Picture Group president since May 2018, when Lionsgate acquired Good Universe, the production company he founded with Joe Drake. Drake stepped down from Lionsgate in early 2024 to pave the way for Fogelson, which in a way foreshadowed Kahane’s eventual exit.

Westerman, a former Good Universe and Disney exec, joined Lionsgate in 2017 as executive vp production, overseeing the studio’s creative film production team, before moving up the ranks. In her new role, she will oversee all development and production of Lionsgate’s theatrical film release slate.

Hot reports right out of the UK say that Sydney Sweeney has been tapped as the newest Bond Girl by director Denis Villeneuve. While people are excited to see who might wear the tuxedo next—amid names like Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson—Sweeney’s name in the mix, sent fans into a frenzy.

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie have collaborated on multiple projects, and most of them have been widely successful. Their projects together grossed almost $300 million at the box office across five films, but one particular project stands out as an absolute smash hit: Wrath of Man.

The gritty action film marked their fourth collaboration together after their debut project, 1998's Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. The film was a massive commercial and critical success, and that has also translated into streaming success, with the action film being a major hit on multiple streaming platforms. However, although it recently rose on the charts on Hulu after its recent release, it was just dethroned by Judd Apatow's Bridesmaids, per FlixPatrol.

Wrath of Man debuted on Hulu on Jul. 1, after previously experiencing success on Prime Video. Not long after its debut, Wrath of Man topped the charts on the streaming platform, continuing its worldwide success.

HBO Max broke up with Love Life in 2022, but the Anna Kendrick-led series is getting another shot this summer. Netflix announced plans to pick up the romantic comedy anthology and start streaming in August.

Love Life didn't exactly take the streaming world by storm during its two seasons on HBO Max. However, critics and fans alike appreciated the charm brought by season 1 led Anna Kendrick and season 2 star William Jackson Harper. A supporting cast that included Zoë Chao, Jessica Williams, and Punkie Johnson pushed Love Life to a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for the final season.

However, HBO canceled the series in December 2022. The streamer took things a step further and completely removed Love Life from the service. Reports at the time indicated financial reasons motivated the decision, as the romcom joined a list of several other projects dropped from HBO Max.

It became nearly impossible to stream the 20 episodes beyond paying for video-on-demand.

Italy’s Rai Cinema is the first international distributor to announce the acquisition of “Day Drinker,” the film that marks Johnny Depp’s return to Hollywood following his high-profile legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Sydney Sweeney has collaborated with Baskin-Robbins to create a special summer menu.

The Sweet on Sydney offerings feature what the ice cream chain claims is her go-to order, Sydney’s Signature Scoop (rainbow sherbet with gummy bears on top in a chocolate-dipped waffle cone with sprinkles), as well as Sydney’s Signature Fizz (rainbow sherbet blended with Starry lemon lime soda and topped off with mini gummy bears).

Yum, right?

Unlike her eyebrow-raising recent collaboration with men’s personal hygiene company Dr. Squatch, no, the rainbow sherbet is not infused with her bathwater.

Though that brand partnership seemed aimed at only certain groups of fans, this collaboration can be enjoyed by all.

“Baskin-Robbins has been part of my life for as long as I can remember — it’s where a lot of great memories were made, and I still find myself going back pretty often,” said Sweeney in a release.

Screenwriter Rob Yescombe has been busy penning movies like Outside the Wire for Netflix and Jackpot! for Amazon Prime, but he’s also found the time to regain the rights to his virtual reality murder mystery game The Invisible Hours.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Yescombe, who started out in video game design before a pivot to Hollywood, is looking for partners for a potential film or TV adaptation of the narrative adventure game developed by now defunct Spanish video game developer Tequila Works.

“I adored making The Invisible Hours. Truly, the best creative experience of my life. Fans still reach out to me, even after all this time — they love it as much as I do. The VR hardware market has grown massively since 2017 — multiple millions of units — making The Invisible Hours a prime candidate to remaster for a new generation,” Yescombe said in a statement.

The cast is full of delightful surprises. Rose Bryne is a stiletto-clad Oxford-educated villainess with quips so brutal that she makes Regina George look like Barney. Peter Serafinowicz does a game turn as an – admittedly very pre-#MeToo – cringey Italian pervert figure named Aldo (“like the shoe store found in American malls”).

Earlier this month, ABC formally announced that cast members from “General Hospital” and “The Young and the Restless” are among the contestants set to appear during the upcoming 11th season of “Celebrity Family Feud,” the primetime game show hosted by Steve Harvey (“Family Feud”).

The news comes weeks after actors from both shows shared behind the scenes snaps on Instagram and other social media platforms following a taping last month in Atlanta.

Although a specific air date for the soap opera cast matchup has not been revealed, the primetime game show is scheduled to launch its new season on Thursday, July 10 at 8:00 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.

There's a new No. 2 on Apple TV+. Echo Valley, the new Ridley Scott-produced thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Julianne Moore, has been kicked to third place by the new sci-fi series Murderbot.

Per FlixPatrol, Murderbot has jumped up three spots on Apple TV+'s Top 10 Overall list to No. 2, knocking Echo Valley down one spot to No. 3. However, Murderbot was unable to dethrone the reigning champion, Stick, the new Owen Wilson sports comedy series about a washed-up pro who turns to a young gifted golfer to turn his life around, which is holding onto that No. 1 spot. Of course, Echo Valley is still No. 1 when it comes to just movies on Apple TV+, while Stick and Murderbot are No. 1 and No. 2 for TV shows.

Murderbot is based on Martha Wells' The Murderbot Diaries, with the first season adapting All Systems Red, the 2017 novella that kicked off the sci-fi series.

Sony’s It Ends With Us adapted Colleen Hoover’s powerful story about domestic violence and a resilient woman, but drama between stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni behind the scenes and afterwards has lingered beyond the film’s release in theaters. Arriving to the big screen last August and later heading to streaming on Netflix in December 2024, the Justin-Baldoni-directed film drew many moviegoers, though some didn’t realize what the story was fully about.

Tensions mainly lie between the film’s costars — Lively, who portrays main character Lily Bloom, and Baldoni, who also stars as Ryle, the abusive husband of Lily, in addition to directing the film with a script from Christy Hall. During press for the film, it became clear that Baldoni and Lively were maintaining distance from each other, and even on the red carpet at the New York premiere, they didn’t take photos together.

When we think of the quintessential movie action hero, we might normally imagine a muscular hero offing the bad guy with a quip, then walking away from an explosion in slow motion. Speaking with W Magazine, Sweeney discussed the untitled Martin biopic and how she bulked up to resemble the boxing legend. Sweeney underwent a wide-ranging transformation, gaining over 30 pounds and doing months of intense training to portray Martin. Though she looked unrecognizable, as evidenced by set photos from the movie, Sweeney "loved" the challenge.
