All of Netflix's nominations ever in big six categories of the Academy Awards
Image
Netflix produced its first non-documentary feature in 2015. It was called Beasts of No Nation, and it was fine. However, the film did not get nominated for an Academy Award. Lots has changed in the last decade.

Your favorite streamer often gets nominated for major awards each year. 2025 is no different. Emilia Pérez has 13 nominations alone, including one for Best Picture. So far, Netflix has yet to get a win in that category, and Emilia Pérez is not the favorite this year, either.

In fact, Netflix has also almost been entirely shut out of wins in the acting categories. Only Laura Dern won, and that was for Best Supporting Actress in 2020. But the streamer does do well in some other categories. Those might not be part of the Big 6, but when it comes to documentaries, Netflix knows what it is doing. Just see below, and you'll know.

The 2025 Oscars will be held on Sunday,...

Vacation Friends 2 Trailer: John Cena And Lil Rel Howery Reunite For Even More Comedy Chaos
Image
2021 was unquestionably the Summer of Cena, as John Cena appeared in "Fast 9," "The Suicide Squad," and the truly delightful "Vacation Friends." The latter was, in this writer's opinion, the first comedy film since "Blockers" that truly knew how to play to Cena's comedic strengths as a leading man, and pairing him alongside Lil Rel Howery ("Get Out'), Yvonne Orji ("Insecure"), and Meredith Hagner ("Search Party") was a recipe for comedy gold. The film was a huge hit on Hulu, snagging a sequel greenlight less than a month after its debut on the Disney-owned streamer. Less than two years later, the foursome is back for "Vacation Friends 2," reuniting with writer-director Clay Tarver in the process.

The sequel picks up a few months after the first film, which saw Ron (Cena) and a pregnant Kyla (Hagner) finally tying the knot, doing so with their new friends Marcus (Howery) and Emily (Orji) by their side.

‘Vacation Friends 2’ Trailer: John Cena & Lil Rel Howery Back For More Mayhem In 20th/Hulu Sequel – Update
Image
Updated, 3:14 p.m: 20th Century Studios has shared the first trailer for Vacation Friends 2, the sequel to its hit 2021 buddy comedy, which saw Lil Rel Howery and Yvonne Orji become Vacation Friends with Meredith Hagner and John Cena.

In the second installment, picking up after the passage of a few months, newly married couple Marcus (Howery) and Emily (Orji) invite their uninhibited besties Ron (Cena) and Kyla (Hagner), who are also newly married and have a baby, to join them for a vacation when Marcus lands an all-expenses-paid trip to a Caribbean resort. His reason for traveling there in the first place is to meet with the owners of the resort to bid on a construction contract for a hotel they own in Chicago. But when Kyla’s incarcerated father Reese (Steve Buscemi) is released from San Quentin and shows up at the resort unannounced at the worst possible moment,...

Vacation Friends 2: John Cena goes back on vacation in a first look of the comedy sequel
Image
In the wake of Dwayne Johnson’s successful transition into a film career, following suit are fellow former wrestlers-turned-actors, Dave Bautista and John Cena. Cena has made a name for himself in the comedy world being in such films as Trainwreck, Blockers, and Vacation Friends from 20th Century Studios. The response to Vacation Friends was overwhelmingly positive for the Hulu comedy, so they now bring us a look at the upcoming sequel to the smash hit.Vacation Friends 2 reteams Director Clay Tarver with stars John Cena, Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji and Meredith Hagner. This entry adds Carlos Santos, Ronny Chieng, Jamie Hector, and Steve Buscemi to the ensemble.

The official synopsis reads,

“Picking up a few months after the end of “Vacation Friends,” this uproarious sequel finds newly married couple Marcus (Howery) and Emily (Orji) inviting their uninhibited besties Ron (Cena) and Kyla (Hagner), who are also newly married and have a baby,...

Image
On the same day that the BAFTA Awards weighed in with their choices on the best film and directing achievements of the year, the prestigious (and typically more telling of Oscar nominations) DGA Awards dropped their nominees, with some historic nods.

Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”) and Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) became the ninth and tenth women ever to be nominated by the Directors Guild of America. Zhao is the first woman of color to ever be nominated. They join a small list of women that have been recognized by the large guild: Lina Wertmüller (“Seven Beauties”), Randa Haines (“Children of a Lesser God”), Barbra Streisand (“The Prince of Tides”), Jane Campion (“The Piano”), Sofia Coppola (“Lost in Translation”), Valerie Faris (who shared her nom with co-director Jonathan Dayton for “Little Miss Sunshine”), Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty”) and Greta Gerwig (“Lady Bird”). That brings the grand...

Sandra Bullock And Billy Bob Thornton Star In Our Brand Is Crisis Trailer
Here’s your first look at the brand new trailer for director David Gordon Green’s Our Brand Is Crisis, starring Oscar winners Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) and Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade).

The film will debut this coming weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival and then in theaters on October 30th.

In the film, a Bolivian presidential candidate failing badly in the polls enlists the firepower of an elite American management team, led by the deeply damaged but still brilliant strategist “Calamity” Jane Bodine (Bullock). In self-imposed retirement following a scandal that earned her nickname and rocked her to her core, Jane is coaxed back into the game for the chance to beat her professional nemesis, the loathsome Pat Candy (Thornton), now coaching the opposition.

But as Candy zeroes in on every vulnerability – both on and off the campaign trail – Jane is plunged into a personal crisis...
