Exclusive: A collection of industry professionals are set to gather at the Skybar in LA’s Mondrian Hotel for what has been described as a fundraising “night of solidarity” organized by InfoList founder Jeff Gund in support of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

Gregory Bonann was a lifeguard at Will Rogers State Beach in 1977 when he helped two children who were caught in a riptide. That rescue would ultimately change his life – and the face of television, setting the stage for the eventual “Baywatch” juggernaut.

Now, with the new feature adaptation of “Baywatch” in theaters this weekend, it’s time to revisit the unusual story of how the lifeguard show made it on the air – ultimately producing 242 episodes before ending its run in 2001.

The film will be released on May 19, 2017.

Seth Gordon (“Horrible Bosses,” “Identity Thief”) is directing the film from a screenplay most recently written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift and Barry Schwartz. Paramount’s casting process for its “badass” and R-rated Baywatch movie has been fascinating to watch largely because it’s shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Only last week, Quantico starlet Priyanka Chopra was the latest actress to board the studio’s burgeoning ensemble piece, and now Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has formally confirmed the addition of Ilfenesh Hadera.

Announced via the actor’s ever-popular Instagram, the actress best known for her roles in Chi-Raq and HBO’s Show Me a Hero is set to play Stef, a “strong, intelligent and formidable” love interest to Johnson’s Mitch Buchannon. Here’s the official post:

Alexandra Daddario ("San Andreas") was recently set to play Summer (originally portrayed by Nicole Eggert) and model Kelly Rohrbach recently signed on to play C.J. Parker (originally played by Pamela Anderson).

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the latest draft of the script which is said to have a "21 Jump Street" action-comedy tone to it.

Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Ivan Reitman, Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Greg Bonann are producing. Filming is expected to commence in the next few months.

Grazeley Film Fund is set to fully finance the comedy "Killing Hasselhoff" for Lotus Pictures, Angelworld and Hoff Productions.

The story follows a man trying to win money in a celebrity death pool who hires a hitman to kill former "Baywatch" star David Hasselhoff. Peter Hoare penned the script.

Hasselhoff and "Baywatch" producers Michele and Michael Berk are re-teaming for the project which also stars Jon Lovitz as Hasselhoff's agent.

A director will be named shortly with filming to take place at least partially in Los Angeles and aiming to begin this Fall.

Stereo Vision Entertainment announced today that Baywatch creator and Soul Surfer writer Michael Berk will produce their 3D sci-fi feature film and 3D video games series Aubrey Blaze.

"Michael has written a thrilling screenplay for our 3D Creature Feature," said Stereo Vision's CEO Jack Honour.  "With the guidance of Stereo Vision's Vice Chairman Puerto Rico's former Governor and Us Congressman Governor Carlos Romeo-Barcelo, and Stereo Vision's attorney of record in Puerto Rico Antonio Sifre, who authored Puerto Rico's movie producer's tax credit legislation which has recently been upped to $350mil, we'll be producing 'Aubrey Blaze' in Puerto Rico and tapping into all available government resources there."

Award-winning country singer Carrie Underwood, whose music career began when she won American Idol in 2005, makes the move to the big screen in upcoming drama Soul Surfer.

Based on a true story, the film stars AnnaSophia Robb (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bridge to Terabithia, The Reaping, Race to Witch Mountain) as teen surfer Bethany Hamilton. Also in the cast are Dennis Quaid as Bethany's dad Tom, Helen Hunt as mum Cheri and Lorraine Nicholason as best friend Alana Blanchard.

Underwood plays church youth ministry leader Sarah Hill (see picture right), whose missions trip to Thailand to help the victims of the 2004 tsunami proves a turning point in Bethany's life.

Directed by Sean McNamara, Soul Surfer is released in the UK by Buena Vista International on September 23. (Certificate PG, running time 106mins). A trailer and posters have been sent over, along with some stills from the movie and the full synopsis.

"Soul Surfer" has cruised to Los Angeles for its premiere on Wednesday, March 30. Among the cast members who came to the premiere at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood was Carrie Underwood who wore a floral-printed dress, with a black clutch and black peep-toe heels. Meanwhile, Underwood's co-star AnnaSophia Robb looked stunning in her purple-and-black party dress.

Other female cast members, Lorraine Nicholson and Helen Hunt, also came to the event. Nicholson wore a black dress and matching high heels. At the same time, Hunt looked gorgeous in her blue party dress.
