Why HBO Max Canceled Doom Patrol And Titans
Image
As David Harbour's canceled "Hellboy" sequel can attest, true longevity can be something of an anomaly when it comes to superhero movie series and TV shows. In fact, combine the usual behind-the-scenes shenanigans of the entertainment business with the wealth of superhero adaptations vying for attention (not to mention the relentless pressure from the fandom to get everything right), and it seems that an aspiring superhero franchise is far more likely to end abruptly like Netflix's "Jupiter's Legacy" than it is to reign supreme for decades á la the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It doesn't get any easier after a superhero project manages to reach its audience, either. Season after season, year after year, the dance must begin anew -- and in 2023, two very specific DC superhero shows experienced this the hard way. As the announcement arrived that both "Titans" and "Doom Patrol" were set to end with their fourth seasons on HBO Max,...

Laura Day Predicts the Future for A-List Stars and Fortune 500 Firms, Just Don’t Call Her a Psychic
Image
Kevin Huvane, one of Hollywood’s most powerful and respected agents, happened to be in New York City about 32 years ago with client and friend Demi Moore when the movie star suggested an introduction to someone “really, really special” in her life.

The first name that came to Huvane’s mind was the man most closely associated with Moore at the time, Bruce Willis. Nope, not him. “You had already had Rumer and I met her already,” Huvane recalled, referencing the eldest of Moore’s three daughters with ex-husband Willis. Turns out it wasn’t a relative, a fellow movie star or even an auteur. Over dinner at Nobu in New York, Moore introduced Huvane to that special someone, whom she described has having the credentials of an impressive multi-hyphenate: “a friend, a guidance counselor, a psychiatrist, a therapist and a healer.”

“I fell in love with Laura Day that night,...

’All American’s Fate on The CW Has Been Decided
Image
After a bit of uncertainty from Warner Bros. Discovery over the budget, All American is heading back to the gridiron one final time. The young adult series is officially lined up for an eighth season at The CW, with showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll and co-showrunner Jamie Turner returning to lead the charge in what will be the final chapter of the Baker family's story. The news comes just under a month after a cliffhanger Season 7 finale that left the door wide open for more high school football drama, assuming the higher-ups were game. A premiere date hasn't been set yet, but The CW has confirmed the final 13 episodes will be released sometime in 2026.

Season 7 completely changed the game for All American, after the series had largely followed the rise of Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) from high school star to Super Bowl champion by the end of Season 6. With his story...

All American Season 8 Officially Renewed & It'll Be The Last One
Image
The CW show All American’s season 8 renewal comes with some sad news about the fate of the show. The sports drama All American is the last scripted show on the CW from before Nexstar's acquisition, and the show is widely considered one of the greats. Even though Daniel Ezra's Spencer James was originally the focus of the show, many characters exited before All American, forcing the show to shift focus to Michael Evans Behling's Jordan, Greta Onieogou's Layla, and Bre-z's Coop in season 7.

Not even a major narrative change could keep the series down, with All American season 7's cliffhanger ending keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. Luckily, just one month after the release of season 7's finale, Varietyhas confirmed that All American will return for season 8, which will unfortunately be its last. The showrunner, Nkechi Okoro Carroll made an emotional statement...

Image
Netflix is saying goodbye to one of its most successful television series. The streaming platform has launched new behind-the-scenes footage from the final season of You, the psychological thriller created by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble. After entertaining audiences for almost seven years, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) reached the end of his journey, and the killer wasn't happy about having to spend the rest of his life in prison. Taylor Zakhar Perez Is Avoiding ‘Red, White & Royal Blue 2’ Spoilers: “I Want Plausible Deniability”
Image
Not even presidential security clearance could get Taylor Zakhar Perez to spoil the upcoming Red, White & Royal Blue sequel.

After portraying the president’s son Alex Claremont-Diaz in the 2023 Prime Video adaptation of Casey McQuiston‘s LGBTQ romance novel, the actor explained how he guaranteed “plausible deniability” when it comes to details of the second installment.

“I purposefully said, ‘Please do not share with me anything until we are ready to prep it, because I want plausible deniability,'” Zakhar Perez told Elle. “I have not read a script, but I hear it’s very good.”

Last May, Amazon MGM Studios announced they greenlighted development on the sequel after the first became Prime Video’s No. 1 movie in its global debut weekend, holding the position for three weeks.

“It Would Have Been Great”: Green Lantern Director Addresses How He Thinks The 2011 DC Movie Could Have Been Saved
Image
Green Lantern director Martin Campbell reflects on how he thinks the DC movie could have been saved and avoided the results it received in 2011. Prior to the launch of the Dceu movie timeline, Warner Bros. was attempting to bring a franchise to life for one of DC's most iconic Justice League characters through 2011's Green Lantern. However, the Hal Jordan-centric film ended up with negative reviews among critics while also becoming a box office failure.

In a new interview with The Direct, Campbell looked back on Green Lantern and its overall legacy in the superhero genre today. While understanding the criticism against it, Campbell stressed that he still had a great time working on it with Ryan Reynolds, so much so that he wished that the Hollywood star had been the one to write the script, as he shared the following:

Oh, it's fair enough. You know, look, people didn't like it.

Why NBC Canceled Shanola Hampton's Found After Two Seasons
Image
Fans of NBC's mystery series "Found" are going to have to look elsewhere to get their dose of fictional missing persons cases now that the series has been canceled by the network after two seasons. As was reported by Deadline, the show will not be returning for a season 3, meaning the season 2 finale will serve as the series finale.

According to a separate report from Variety, Warner Bros. Television, which produces "Found," is going to see if it can find a new home for the show, be it a streaming service or another network. This sort of thing has happened plenty of times in the past, like when "Designated Survivor" went from ABC to Netflix or "Lucifer" moved from Fox to Netflix. So, while it's possible, for the time being fans need to come to grips with the fact that Gabi Mosely may well be retired.

The drama series originally debuted on NBC in 2023. Shanola Hampton leads the cast, which also includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta and Karan Oberoi.

The official description of the series states:

“In any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the U.S. More than half that number are people of color that the country seems to forget about. Public relations specialist Gabi Mosely (Hampton), who was once herself one of those forgotten ones, and her crisis management team make sure there is always someone looking out for the missing. Gabi, however, has a chilling secret: In the midst of grief, she imprisoned her childhood kidnapper, Sir (Gosselaar). Now Sir has escaped and is on the loose, and her biggest secret is now her biggest threat.”

‘Found’ Canceled By NBC After 2 Seasons
Image
Exclusive: Found will not be getting a third season at NBC. The series, starring Shanola Hampton, may be shopped by its lead studio Warner Bros. Television.

The news comes ahead of the Season 2 finale, which has been teased as a showdown of sorts between Gabi (Hampton) and Sir’s sister Lena (Danielle Savre). The episode, which will now serve as a series finale, airs on May 15.

Found was canceled today alongside fellow NBC sophomore drama The Irrational. Coming from different studios, Found from Warner Bros. TV and The Irrational from Universal Television, the two series had similar runs.

Held as strike contingency, both shows launched in fall 2023 amid a dearth of scripted originals on the broadcast networks. Taking advantage of the lesser competition and potent lead-ins, The Voice (Monday) for The Irrational and The Voice (Tuesday) for Found, the dramas started off well on NBC and Peacock. Found became NBC...

Tom Francis Is Ready to Flex His Muscles for Hollywood
Image
Tom Francis first discovered his talents while listening to Oasis. The British-born actor, who is currently starring (alongside Nicole Scherzinger) in the Broadway run of Sunset Blvd., was seven years old. The album was Don’t Believe the Truth. “I became absolutely obsessed with the band, and there’s a song that closes the album called ‘Let There Be Love,’ and I remember sitting down with my guitar and figuring out how to play and sing it,” he explains to The Hollywood Reporter. Francis’ parents happened to be eavesdropping. “I got so embarrassed, and shouted at them like, ‘Don’t ever do that to me again,'” he laughs. “I didn’t want any to watch me sing, ever. But then that night at dinner, my dad told me, ‘I think you’re really very good.’ And I took that on.”

Eighteen years later, Francis, 25, is nominated for a Tony Award...

‘All American’ Boss Optimistic About Season 8 As Renewal Talks With The CW Heat Up
Image
The Season 7 finale of All American will air next week and, so far, there’s no word on whether that will be the CW series’ last.

Deadline understands that renewal talks are heating up, and The CW sources said there is about a 50/50 chance that the network’s last remaining legacy scripted series from the pre-Nexstar days will get a Season 8. Showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll tells Deadline she remains “optimistic” that the series will continue, and she’s already begun work on an eighth season.

“I believe in unicorns and rainbows and gummy bears and all things happy. So, I am optimistic for Season 8, and I’m moving forward and planning as though we have one, because if I don’t, we won’t be ready in time when we get it,” she said Wednesday, while discussing the Season 7 finale.

All American went through a major overhaul for its 13-episode...

‘You’ Fights Back Against Series-Low Ratings to Earn Over 10 Million Viewers in Final Season
Image
We’re now five days removed from the final season of You making its debut on Netflix, and viewership information for the series has finally been made available. Netflix has announced that the fifth and final season of You has scored 10.1 million viewers in its first few days on the platform. This comes despite Season 5 being the lowest-rated season of the show to date, earning scores of 82% from critics and 56% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. You has now garnered over 500 million views through its five seasons, and the recent release of Season 5 has even propelled Season 1 back into the Netflix top 10 for the first time in more than two years. The series stars Penn Badgley and was created for TV by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble.

Following behind You on the Netflix charts is Havoc, the new action thriller starring Tom Hardy and directed by Gareth Evans. Havoc scored 29.8 million...

“This is that role for Paul Wesley”: Even ‘Arrow’ Creator Was Floored by ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Casting That Nearly Didn’t Cast Its True Stefan
Image
If there was one thing that fits perfectly in The Vampire Diaries lore besides all the immersive plotlines and characters that the brainboxes behind the masterpiece had curated, it was the star-studded cast. Be it Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, or Nina Dobrev, all three of the main cast of the television series were cast as outstandingly and perfectly as ever.

But while that’s that, the surprising part is that the smash-hit vampire drama almost didn’t cast its true Stefan Salvatore, after passing on Wesley so many times that, if it were anyone else, they would have inevitably given up. His casting in the respective role was so iconic that even Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti was floored by the same!

Even Greg Berlanti couldn’t deny that Paul Wesley’s casting in Tvd was perfect Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. | Credits: The CW.

Greg Berlanti teams up with Amazon on mind-bending horror thriller series Stillwater
Image
Through his megadeal with Warner Bros. Discovery, highly successful and prolific producer and screenwriter Greg Berlanti will be returning to more hands-on creative work, specifically writing for three different shows, each being developed for a different streaming platform. One of those series is a horror thriller titled Stillwater, which will be created for Prime Video.

Some comic book fans will be familiar with the show's title right away, as it's based on Skybound's horror comic book series of the same name by Chip Zdarsky. Amazon has given Stillwater a series order, although it's unclear how many episodes the first season will have.

Berlanti is best known for his work on shows such as Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, You, Titans and Superman & Lois. He and Carly Wray are working together to adapt the Stillwater comic for the screen. They will also executive produce along with Zdarsky, Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs,...

Greg Berlanti Developing 'Stillwater' Series for Prime Video Based on HIt Horror Comic from Skybound
Image
Greg Berlanti has become known for masterminding some incredible TV shows, having been behind the DC superhero contingent in The CW’s Arrowverse shows and Netflix’s You, which has just wrapped its five-season run. Now he is already working on several new projects, including adapting the popular horror-mystery comic series Stillwater into a new series for Amazon Prime Video.

For many people, Stephen King will always hold the crown when it comes to small-town horrors, but writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Ramón K. Pérez challenged the great American horror author with their 2020 “modern classic” about a town where no one dies. According to Deadline, Zdarsky and Pérez are on board the project as consulting producers, meaning that fans of the dark, twisting tale will hopefully be getting a pretty faithful adaptation that could easily become the next WalkingDead or From.

Stillwater wrapped its 18-issue run having opened with the...

Greg Berlanti Nabs Series Order for Horror Drama ‘Stillwater’ at Amazon
Image
Greg Berlanti is getting back into the writers room.

The mega-producer has three projects, at three different streamers, in various stages of development — including a series order for Stillwater, based on the horror comic of the same name, at Amazon’s Prime Video. Berlanti is also developing a high school mystery series at Hulu and a family drama at Max.

All three projects come from Warner Bros. TV, where Berlanti has a rich overall deal and has been his studio home for most of his career.

Stillwater and the Hulu project, Foster Dade, will also mark Berlanti’s first teleplay credits in several years. While the prolific producer has a “developed by” or creator credit on many of the shows his eponymous company has produced — including most of The CW’s Arrow-verse series — he hasn’t had a writing credit since the early days of You, which is now wrapping its run on Netflx.

Greg Berlanti Sets Skybound Comic Adaptation ‘Stillwater’ at Amazon, ‘Foster Dade’ at Hulu
Image
Greg Berlanti has set up multiple projects across multiple streamers on which he will serve as co-writer, Variety has confirmed.

Although Berlanti remains one of the most prolific producers in Hollywood via his Warner Bros. TV-based Berlanti Productions, the most recent show on which he was credited as a writer was “Superman & Lois,” which debuted in 2021.

First up, Berlanti and Carly Wray are set as writers and executive producers on the horror thriller “Stillwater,” based on the Skybound comic book of the same name by Chip Zdarsky and Ramon K. Perez.

The official logline for the show states, “When ex-con Daniel West receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance in the small town of Stillwater, he discovers a community where nothing ever ages, no one ever dies, and nobody ever gets out.”

Executive producing for Skybound Entertainment are Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs,...

Greg Berlanti Gets ‘Stillwater’ Series Order At Amazon, Sets ‘Foster Dade’ At Hulu & Eyes Max Series In Return To TV Writing
Image
Exclusive: How is this for continuity — as the last of the current series created/co-created by Greg Berlanti, You, is topping Netflix’s charts with its just-released final season, he is readying his next series — next three, that is, including Stillwater, which has been picked up by Amazon. Focusing on development and returning to writing over the past several months, Berlanti has set up the three high-profile new projects — all co-written by him — through Berlanti Prods. and Warner Bros. Television, where the company is based.

In a bidding war, Amazon has landed mind-bending horror thriller Stillwater, based on the Skybound comic book series by Chip Zdarsky and Ramon K. Perez, with a series order. Berlanti and Carly Wray (Watchmen) are adapting, with Skybound Entertainment (The Walking Dead) producing.

Hulu had bought spec script Foster Dade, written by Berlanti and Bash Doran (Life After Life), which is being fast-tracked for a pilot order,...

Penn Badgley Reveals Alternate Ending Considered for You Series Finale
Image
Youstar Penn Badgley explains why the series couldn't kill off his iconic villain.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Badgley discussed his personal journey portraying stalker-turned-serial killer Joe Goldberg, as well as why the series couldn't kill off his character in the end. Badgley explained that if his character were killed by someone "he'd been trying to seduce, manipulate, or kill," that character would have been saddled "with trauma that feels unjust. So I think we found the one just ending."

Badgley did note the one alternative ending that he believed would have been fitting, which came from writer and showrunner Greg Berlanti. "It was to let [Joe] get away with it - to let him have everything he thought he wanted, and just be absolutely miserable," Badgley explained. "Where that starts to fall apart is that it doesn't take her into account, whoever the her is." The hit Netflix series, based on...

Goodbye, ‘You’: Show Bosses on Penn Badgley’s ‘Horrific’ Finale Moment, [Spoiler] Returning and Wanting Viewers to See Who Joe Really Is: ‘He’s a F—ing Monster’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the series finale of “You,” now streaming on Netflix.

Joe Goldberg is finally in a cage for good, and not the one of his own making. In the series finale of Netflix’s stalker-rom-com-thriller “You,” Joe, Penn Badgley’s charismatic serial killer, gets his long-overdue comeuppance at the hands of his former victims, who join forces to put him behind bars once and for all.

When we pick up with Joe at the beginning of Season 5, he’s happily married to the uber-rich Kate Lockwood (Charlotte Ritchie), who’s used her family’s sizable resources to snatch Joe’s son Henry (Frankie DeMaio) from the adopted fathers he was dumped with at the end of Season 3 after Joe flees Northern California, having murdered Henry’s (also murderous) mother, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). Now that Joe has returned to New York City a free man,...

‘You’ Showrunners Break Down That Killer Season 5 Ending, Joe’s Final Monologue
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “You” Season 5, Episode 10.

The penultimate episode of “You” Season 5 felt like Joe Goldberg’s final reckoning as he stood trapped in his own cage by the ghosts of his past in Kate, Nadia and Marienne, but, of course, Joe escapes once again.

Joe (Penn Badgley) is dragged out of the fire at Mooney’s by Bronte/Louise (Madeline Brewer), who — knowing she is the only one who can now bring him to justice — accepts his marriage proposal at the end of Episode 9, leaving the pair to be found on a picturesque road trip in Canada by the beginning of the finale.

“It was important for us that Joe thinks that his dream has come true of finding a woman who can love all of him and that they ride off into the proverbial sunset together,” showrunner Michael Foley told TheWrap, adding that while the...

Penn Badgley Reflects on Losing Himself In Gossip Girl Role
Image
Penn Badgley is currently known for playing the obsessive Joe in Netflix’s psychological thriller You. But from 2007 to 2012, he played Dan Humphrey on Gossip Girlopposite Blake Lively and Leighton Meester.

However, Badgley recently admitted that he struggled to separate his real life from that of his Gossip Girl character. "It was a struggle," the actor said during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy Podcast. "When you do a film, you do it once and give it your all, and then you move on. When you do a television show, you’re doing it constantly because of the nature of that show."

As a young actor, Badgley found it hard to leave his on-screen persona at work. "I was 20, 21, 22, so I didn’t have the emotional maturity to understand how to differentiate myself in terms of self-worth," he explained. "What people seemed to think of Dan seemed to be what people thought of me.

Hello, you. Joe Goldberg's reign of terror has come to an end. Did you get what you wanted?

The fifth and final season of Netflix's adaptation of You brought Joe (Penn Badgley) back to New York for one last murderous romp — and a taste of his own medicine.

But true to form, that's not enough for him, and soon enough he has a new obsession in Bronte (Madeline Brewer), whom he finds breaking into his bookstore and then takes under his wing (and eventually into his bed). Joe Goldberg Gets a Fittingly F**ked Sendoff with ‘You’ Season 5
Image
A few days before “You” Season 5 premiered on Netflix, I went to see Christopher Landon’s “Drop” in theaters. As we emerged from the “punchy, ridiculous thriller” into broad daylight, my friends were quick to dismiss it, to engage in the common but misguided practice of conflating highbrow quality with entertainment value. “Drop” is no cinematic hallmark (though some of Marc Spicer’s shots will stay with me for a long time), but it kept me engrossed, entertained, and invested in the final outcome.

The same approach will pay off with the end of “You,” created by Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti and brought to the bloody finish line by showrunners Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo. If you’ve stuck with the series thus far, you signed up for outrageous twists, cartoonish characters, and an exorbitant number of murders, all tied together by Penn Badgley’s bewitching performance. It’s not prestige TV,...
