Djamel Bensalah

'Beur sur la ville' Out In France On Oct. 12
French director Djamel Bensalah has a new comedy in store. In fact, his next film Beur sur la ville will come out in theatres in France on October 12.

The film takes place in a poor suburb of Paris. Khalid Belkacem (Booder) failed his Diplôme national du brevet at 15 years old, his driving exam, his Bafa and even his baccalauréat général (Bcg).

In a nutshell, he's a complete failure by French standards. However, by a stroke of luck, he becomes the first French cop hired by "affirmative action".

The film also stars Issa Doumbia, Steve Tran, Sandrine Kiberlain, Josiane Balasko, Gérard Jugnot, Roland Giraud and François-Xavier Demaison.

No Canadian release date has been announced.

'La grande séduction' Will Have 3 Remakes
The Quebecker comedy La grande séduction will have an English Canadian, French and Italian remakes.

The film La grande séduction will have 3 remakes shot in Canada, France and Italy. However, the remake in English will be shot before those from France and Italy. Besides, Ken Scott will direct the English Canadian version.

The English Canadian version will be shot in Newfoundland-and-Labrador, an Atlantic province of Canada and will be known as The Grand Seduction. This film with a budget of $11 M will be shot between August 28 and November 15.

Michael Dowse (Fubar) was supposed to direct The Grand Seduction, but he left "because of an artistic divergence" with producer Roger Frappier. This is why Ken Scott, the scriptwriter of the original film, will direct the film.

Unlike the original film from 2003, The Grand Seduction will take place in a city called Dunfield rather than Sainte-Marie-la-Mauderne. However, the story might be about...

Heather Matarazzo in Hostel, chapitre II (2007)
Gaumont, Columbia go their separate ways
Heather Matarazzo in Hostel, chapitre II (2007)
PARIS -- The divorce papers were finalized Sunday as the end officially arrived for the three-year joint distribution venture Gaumont Columbia TriStar France.

As the U.S. studio and French major go their separate ways, the Columbia TriStar label is taking on its mother studio's name, Sony Pictures France. Sony's 32-strong team will continue to be run by Eric Brune, with Alexandre Bihn heading up the marketing division and Etienne Reynard head of sales.

From now through the end of the year, Sony will release six films in French theaters including Hostel: Part II on July 11, Daddy Day Camp on Aug. 15 and Surf's Up on Oct. 24, for a total of 15 films in 2007. The studio plans to increase its theatrical output in the territory to 18-22 films next year.

After a successful 2006 boxoffice that featured You Are So Handsome, OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies and The Valet, Gaumont is hoping for a strong second half of 2007 with seven titles including Michel Boujenah's 3 Friends on Aug. 22; Christine Carriere's Darling on Nov. 7, starring Cesar-winner Guillaume Canet; and Djamel Bensalah's Big City, starring only children, Dec. 12.

"We'll miss our colleagues at Columbia, that's for sure."...
