A sun-soaked tale full of beautiful rich people doing terrible things, including a transgressive sexual act that’s got the tabloids foaming at the mouth. On paper, BritBox import “Towards Zero” sounds like another salacious drama to ride on the coattails of “The White Lotus.” Yet it stems, in fact, from the bygone era of cozy crime fiction where the only stiff appendage was the upper lip.

Indeed, following the likes of “And Then There Were None,” “The Pale Horse,” and “Ordeal by Innocence,” the 1930s tale is the latest Agatha Christie whodunit to get a semi-contemporary spin. And just like her predecessor, period drama queen Sarah Phelps, screenwriter Rachel Bennette gives the purists plenty to scream blue murder over.

“BBC viewers left stunned by ‘filthy’ X-rated scene,” was a typical conservative media headline after the three-part series premiered in the UK last month. “Is ‘Towards Zero’ the raciest Agatha Christie ever?...

Today, BritBox revealed the premiere date, trailer, and key art for its Original three-episode limited series Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero.

The series will premiere as a three-day event beginning Wednesday, April 16 with the second episode debuting on April 17 and the third episode on April 18.

Exclusive: The BBC is keeping its Agatha Christie tradition alive by setting Towards Zero as its next adaptation of the great author’s work.

Following on from 2023’s limited series Murder Is Easy, the BBC has commissioned Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited to reimagine the writer’s 1944 novel.

Towards Zero unfolds around the murder of an elderly widow at a clifftop seaside house, linking a failed suicide attempt, a schoolgirl wrongfully accused of theft, and the romantic life of a famous tennis player.

The book will be adapted by Rachel Bennette, the writer behind BAFTA-nominated Zadie Smith adaptation Nw. She has also written on World on Fire and Ripper Street.

Towards Zero will go into production over the summer. The series is co-produced by BritBox International, while Fifth Season will handle international distribution.

Jonah Hauer-King can currently be seen swimming up a storm alongside Halle Bailey in Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid” but for his next project he’s part of a different world – “World on Fire.”

The PBS and BBC drama series has released first look images from its upcoming second season, showing Hauer-King as a grimy soldier called Harry in the Royal Air Force (Raf) during World War II.

In the show, which was created by Peter Bowker, he is joined by “The Crown’s” Lesley Manville, Parker Sawyers (“A Discovery of Witches”) and Eugénie Derouand (“The Advent Calendar”).

In new images from Season 2 Manville, who plays Robina, looks elegant in a 1940s hair-do and outfit while Sawyers, who plays Albert, is pictured looking concerned, a Nazi flag visible behind him. Meanwhile Derouand is clad in a nurse’s outfit as Henriette.

Shogun, the novel by James Clavell adapted by the classic TV miniseries, is getting a new TV adaptation, bound for FX.

Shogun is bringing its historical English-Japanese culture clash back to television on FX.

Back in August 2018, FX initially announced that it was rebooting Shogun as a new 10-episode limited series. The classic property first arrived in the form of James Clavell’s 1975 novel, Shogun, which was subsequently adapted by NBC as an ambitiously epic 5-episode television miniseries, starring Richard Chamberlain, which aired through the week of September 15, 1980. The miniseries was the first major U.S. production to be shot entirely on location in Japan. Likewise, the new series is eyeing a shoot in Japan and the U.K.

FX will not be “exoticizing” Japanese culture in its upcoming limited series “Shogun,” the network’s CEO John Landgraf assured reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour Friday.

“I referenced, I think, in my comments that it’s really told from multiple points of view, not just the singular Western, white male point of view, so it’s told through many Japanese points of view,” Landgraf said when asked how the show would avoid “exoticizing” feudal Japan, in comparison to the ’80s miniseries adaptation starring Richard Chamberlain. “And there’s a lot of really fun and fascinating work going on to try to balance the story out and tell it from both points of view.”

The 10-episode series “Shogun” is based on James Clavell’s novel of the same name. Set in feudal Japan in the early 17th century, the story follows a mysterious female samurai and the shipwrecked English sailor John Blackthorne.

FX has resurrected a new take on “Shōgun,” a 10-episode limited series period drama that had originally been set up at sister broadcast network Fox.

“Devs,” which had previously been ordered to pilot at FX, follows a young computer engineer, Lily Chan, as she investigates the secretive development division of her employer, a cutting-edge tech company based in San Francisco, whom she believes are behind the murder of her boyfriend. FX has given the series an eight-episode order.

Garland serves as writer and will executive produce along with Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA TV, as well as Eli Bush and Scott Rudin, with whom he partnered with on the films “Annihilation” and “Ex Machina.” The series will be produced by FX Productions.

The adaptation is written by Rachel Bennette (Ripper Street, Lewis) and produced by Mammoth Screen.

While he’s clearly one of the most popular young stars in the world thanks to his work in the “Twilight” films, he has yet to prove to most people that he can really act. While some who have seen David Cronenberg’s upcoming “Cosmopolis” claim that this will be the film that finally allows Pattinson to break out of the franchise that has defined him, we’re stuck with something far lesser for now, the misguided and depressing “Bel Ami,” a film that does nothing to help the critical reputation of the man otherwise known as Edward Cullen.

The problem is that I somehow want to defend Pattinson. I think there’s something there. Cronenberg is one of the smartest men in filmmaking and he saw something in this brooding young actor. And so what’s the defense for this mess?...

Also, notice that it's the same Robert Pattinson image, but all three leading ladies have had their pictures changed. [Bel Ami extended scenes.] For Uma Thurman, they kept the face but altered the hair and the dress; we now get some cleavage. Kristin Scott Thomas is wearing the same dress, but here she's looking straight at the camera (or at you, looking at the poster).
