A Nearly Normal Family's 8 Biggest Book Changes
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for A Nearly Normal Family!

The Netflix series of A Nearly Normal Family diverges from the book, with changes to the assault scene, structure, and characterizations. The series presents a more graphic and detailed portrayal of Stella's assault, while the book focuses on its aftermath. The series downplays the Swedish legal system and simplifies certain plot elements, but highlights Ulrika as a standout character.

Warning: This article mentions substance abuse and sexual assault.

An amalgam of Scandinavian noir and true crime drama, Netflix's A Nearly Normal Family has made numerous changes to the book of the same name published in 2019 by Swedish author M.T. Edvardsson. The plot focuses on the way an idyllic family, including Adam Sandell, a pastor involved with the Church of Sweden, his wife Ulrika, a lawyer, and their daughter, Stella, is turned upside down when the police arrive to arrest Stella for murder.

‘A Nearly Normal Family’ Series Recap & Ending Explained: Who Was Christoffer ‘Chris’ Olsen?
Image
Netflix’s 2023 miniseries, A Nearly Normal Family, introduces us to the Sandell family, a small and gracious family anyone would kill to be born into. The family includes lawyer Ulrika (Lo Kauppi), priest Adam (Björn Bengtsson), and their star daughter, Stella (Christoffer Willén). Their perfect life shatters when, one day, Stella is raped on a school trip by Robin. Stella tried to shove Robin (Christoffer Willén) away, but she froze up in fright, and Robin carried on. Adam wanted to take it to the cops and then the court, but Ulrika said they would lose, and it would tarnish Stella’s reputation. It would be a classic, my word against your case, suggested Ulrika. Thus, Adam had no choice but to accept his wife’s advice and not press charges.

A Nearly Normal Family takes a four-year leap, and we see Stella, who has now recovered from what happened to her on the school trip.

Shows Like ‘A Nearly Normal Family’ To Watch If You Liked The Netflix Swedish Series
Image
Netflix’s latest miniseries, A Nearly Normal Family, based on M.T. Edvardsson’s best-selling novel, starts with a bang but ends up stumbling. It revolves around Stella Sandell (Alexandra Karlsson Tyrefors), a girl accused of killing her boyfriend, Chris, with all the evidence pointing towards her. Despite the prosecution pushing for maximum jail time, she’s released on a technicality. The series sets up high expectations for Stella’s parents, Adam (Björn Bengtsson) and Ulrika (Lo Kauppi), hinting that they’ve got some big shoes to fill. Sadly, both ended up as just a bickering couple with limited impact. Despite this, A Nearly Normal Family manages to be a decent watch, keeping you entertained. If you’re in the mood for something similar, here’s a list to try your luck with.

Netflix Orders ‘The Unlikely Murderer’ About the Mystery of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme’s Killing
Image
Netflix has ordered “The Unlikely Murderer,” a Swedish limited series based on Thomas Pettersson’s eponymous 2018 award-winning book.

The five-part drama series is a fictional interpretation of how Stig Engström, the graphic designer named as the suspected murderer of Sweden’s prime minister Olof Palme, managed to elude justice right up to his death through a combination of audacity, luck and a perplexed police force.

Engström’s murder was not planned well, he did everything wrong from the beginning and almost no one believed his lies about what he actually did during that fateful night in 1986 in Stockholm, Sweden. The series will question how police could have let the suspect get away, despite tracking him.

The series is written by Wilhelm Behrman and Niklas Rockström. Charlotte Brändström (“The Witcher”) is the conceptual director and will helm the first two episodes of the show.

The Swedish-language series will be produced by Flx,...

Final Action-Packed Trailer for New 'Robin Hood' with Taron Egerton
"Can you see...? You inspire the people!" Lionsgate has debuted one final official trailer for their new Robin Hood movie. The final trailer is just as worrisome as the last trailer, even though it looks like it has some entertaining action. They're definitely trying to sell this like Pirates of the Caribbean, about a man of the people, and I don't think it's going to work. This new Robin Hood stars England's top young actor Taron Egerton as Robin of Loxley, a "war-hardened Crusader" who fights against the corrupt English crown with his friend, Little John, played by Jamie Foxx. The cast includes Ben Mendelsohn, Eve Hewson, Tim Minchin, Björn Bengtsson, Ian Peck, and Jamie Dornan. As much as I'd like to see a modern Robin Hood movie, this just looks like every other action movie in the last decade. Give me something else, please. Here's the third & final...

Second Trailer for the Next 'Robin Hood' Movie Starring Taron Egerton
"There's been whispers... of a thief!" Lionsgate has revealed the second, full-length official trailer for their new Robin Hood movie, titled very simply Robin Hood. How original. This new trailer is better than the first teaser by miles. If you haven't had enough Robin Hood, after Ridley Scott's failed Russell Crowe movie from 2010, then here's another fresh action-packed take for you. This Robin Hood stars Taron Egerton as Robin of Loxley, a "war-hardened Crusader" who fights against the corrupt English crown with his friend, Little John, played by Jamie Foxx. The cast includes Ben Mendelsohn, Eve Hewson, Tim Minchin, Björn Bengtsson, Ian Peck, and Jamie Dornan. This doesn't look so bad, if I'm completely honest. Obviously it's cliche with all the badassery and evil king, but it also looks very entertaining. Fire it up below. Here's the full-length trailer (+ teaser poster) for Otto Bathurst's Robin Hood, direct from...

‘Robin Hood’ First Trailer: Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx Put An Action-Packed Spin on the Legend
Ridley Scott
Anyone who was let down by Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe’s 2010 “Robin Hood” and feels the hero deserves another chance on the big screen is in luck. Lionsgate has debuted the first trailer trailer for “Robin Hood,” directed by Otto Bathurst in his feature debut and starring Taron Edgerton and Jamie Foxx. Whereas Scott’s “Hood” was a war epic, Bathurst’s “Hood” looks like a rollicking action film inspired by Guy Ritchie.

Egerton, best known for his role leading in the “Kingsman” franchise, heads the cast as the titular bandit. Foxx plays Little John, one of Hood’s best friends and the leader of the Merry Men outlaws. Ben Mendelsohn stars as the villain, while “The Knick” breakout Eve Hewson plays Hood’s love interest, Maid Marian. Jamie Dornan, Josh Herdman, and Björn Bengtsson co-star.

With its over-the-top action scenes and mix of kinetic camera movements and dramatic slow-motion,...

First Teaser Trailer for New 'Robin Hood' Movie Starring Taron Egerton
"You're not curious who's under the hood?" Lionsgate has debuted the first teaser trailer for the new Robin Hood movie, with the most original title yet - Robin Hood (which is the same title as the other recent one). This looks like way more of an Assassin's Creed movie than the Assassin's Creed movie did, and it also reminds me a lot of Guy Ritchie's action style. You might want to check this out. Here's the first teaser trailer (+ posters...

DVD Review: Psalm 21
Psalm 21

Stars: Jonas Malmsjö, Niklas Falk, Björn Bengtsson, Görel Crona, Josefin Ljungman | Written and Directed by Fredrik Hiller

If you are not into the whole religion thing about hell and damnation it can be hard to watch movies that rely on these themes and be able to take them seriously. I’ll admit I am sceptical about it all but I at least try to watch the movies in the context of what they are and go into it with an understanding that the people within the movie world itself do believe so I’ll have to watch it from their point of view. That’s what I had to do with Psalm 21.

The story centres on Henrik Horneus a priest whose father had died in suspicious circumstances. This along with other events causes him to have a crisis of faith, which in a priest you have to admit is quite a problem.

First Stills and New UK Trailer Debut: Psalm 21
It's been a long while since last we heard anything about Fredrik Hiller's Swedish horror flick, Psalm 21. March 24th, 2009 to be exact. The good news? The film has nailed down distro. The bad? It's not here in the States.

Directed by Hiller and starring Jonas Malmsjö, Niklas Falk, Björn Bengtsson, and Görel Crona, this flick looks pretty damned scary if we do say so ourselves. Dig on the cover art, stills, and the UK trailer below.

Directed by Fredrik Hiller and starring Jonas Malmsjö, Niklas Falk, Björn Bengtsson, and Görel Crona, this flick looks pretty damned scary if I do say so myself. Check out the trailer which was spotted by the good folks at Quiet Earth and the synopsis below:
