Charles Belcher born in San Francisco in 1872. A graduate of San
Francisco's Lincoln Grammar School. Became popular in drama and comedy
theatre from 1907. White-haired gentleman who appeared in many action
adventure and drama films, first starring with Ruth Roland in a
adventure serial 'The Adventures of Ruth made at the Pathe Film Co in
1919, he's perhaps most notable for his roles in many of Douglas
Fairbanks action films including 'The Mark of Zorro' in 1920, 'The
Three Musketeers' in 1921 and 'The Black Pirate' in 1926, he' perhaps
best remembered as Balthazar in 'Ben Hur' in 1925,Charles made his last
screen appearance, playing the Duke in Albert Ray's 'Thief in the Dark'
in 1928.
