Image
Kate Beckinsale has been in the film industry for decades, as she's the daughter of two actors, the late Richard Beckinsale and Judy Loe. With many acting credits under her name, the actress starred in Michael Bay's 2001 film Pearl Harbor and the Underworld franchise, where she played the leading character, Selene.

Over the years, Beckinsale has been very open about the struggles of the industry, and she has just shown support for Blake Lively in the aftermath of her lawsuit against It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni. In a lengthy video on Instagram, Beckinsale pointed out she doesn't know any of them and hasn't been on the set of the drama, but that she is showing her support for Lively. Canary Black Cast & Character Guide
Image
Apart from walking through several action set pieces and a thrilling drama, Canary Black also features memorable character beats driven by the compelling performances of its cast members. Directed by Pierre Morel, Canary Black is another addition to Amazon Prime Video's roster of action movies. Although its title might suggest it has something to do with DC Comics' Black Canary, the film follows an original story that focuses on a CIA agent on the run.

Canary Black's filming primarily took place in Zagreb, Croatia, and even the scenes that portray Tokyo in the movie's storyline were shot in the Croatian city of Rovinj. When it comes to the movie's cast, it features both familiar and new faces as its leads. Since many viewers may be curious about who plays whom in Canary Black's story after watching it on Prime Video, it is worth breaking down the key characters and the talented actors behind them.

Kate Beckinsale in Underworld (2003)
Kate Beckensale left her fans alarmed Monday after sharing emotional photos of herself in the hospital.

The “Underworld” star actress posted to Instagram celebrating her mother Judy Lowe’s birthday and Mother’s Day in the U.K. The 50-year-old actress also shared a teary-eyed photo of herself sitting in a hospital bed, wearing a gown and a large black bow on her head, but she gave no reason for her hospitalization.

“Happy birthday and U.K. Mother’s Day this last week to my incredible mother,” Beckinsale captioned the post. “Thank you to those that love us and support us when it’s s–t and try to make sure there are some bits that aren’t.”

The B-Side – Kate Beckinsale
Image
Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars and filmmakers and not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.

Today, Conor and I dish on our movie crushes. More specifically, the movie crush from my life as a young cinephile: Kate Beckinsale.

The B-Sides in the pipeline are: Laurel Canyon, Tiptoes, Nothing but the Truth, Whiteout, and Everybody’s Fine.

The sheer diversity of these five pictures cannot be overstated. Beckinsale, while known by most Americans for her role in the Underworld franchise, comes from a comedy lineage in the U.K., the daughter of sitcom legend Richard Beckinsale. Soon enough, period pieces like Much Ado About Nothing gave way to Hollywood dramas like Brokedown Palace and indie spotlights like The Last Days of Disco for Kate Beckinsale. And then… Pearl Harbor!

All of these...

A movie version of Dad's Army?
You may find the new Ben Stiller movie The Watch strangely familiar. But that's not necessarily a good thing

You might be forgiven for thinking that you've seen The Watch before. Not because Ben Stiller's character is the same uptight blowhard that he has played in everything for the past 15 years, or because Richard Ayoade is basically just Moss from The It Crowd again, or because Vince Vaughn remains content to sit back and bibble out the same directionless patter that has been his stock in trade for what seems like centuries.

No. The reason is because, once you've scraped away all the sex jokes and clanging Costco product placement, you're basically left with Dad's Army. Both are essentially stories about a group of ill-prepared middle-aged incompetents trying to escape the monotony of their day-to-day lives by fudging together a defence against an enemy they don't fully understand. With The Watch,...

Kate Beckinsale on how she slipped back into that skintight catsuit for Underworld: Awakening
Kate Beckinsale says she had to shun some of the best food in the world so she could slip back into her skintight catsuit for new film Underworld: Awakening.

The British actress faced a strict diet and fitness regime so she could put on the unforgiving latex outfit and return to her role as Selene for a fourth time.

The 38-year-old had been filming action thriller Contraband with Mark Wahlberg immediately before working on the Underworld film.

"I was in New Orleans shooting Contraband where's there's the best food in the whole world, so that was annoying," she said at the Underworld: Awakening premiere in Los Angeles.

"But it's good, it's a costume I really like, so I don't mind too much."

The latest battle between vampires and werewolves is released in the UK today, January 20.

Beckinsale, 38, who is based in La, added that she would like to return to...

Pete Postlethwaite obituary
Oscar-nominated British actor with a vast range who could move between comedy and tragedy with ease

The actor Pete Postlethwaite had a face that elicited many similes, among them "a stone archway" and "a bag of spanners". These unflattering descriptions, plus his tongue-twisting surname, would suggest an actor with a career limited to minor supporting roles. But Postlethwaite, who has died of cancer aged 64, played a vast range of characters, often leading roles, on stage, television and film.

He was at ease in switching the masks of tragedy and comedy. The working-class martinet father he played in Terence Davies's film Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988), which Postlethwaite credited as his big break, can be seen as paradigmatic of his career. Postlethwaite powerfully conveyed the father's double-sided nature: at one moment he is tenderly kissing his children goodnight, the next he is ripping the tablecloth off in a rage.

Postlethwaite was...

Kate Beckinsale makes a habit out of changing dresses in Cannes
British actor forgoes the Doc Martens at Cannes in favour of glitz, glamour … and myriad costume changes

• In pictures: Beckinsale's festival in frocks

Cannes is, of course, a festival of contrasts. If you're a Palme D'Or judge, you have to watch 19 films, some of which will explore the grinding pointlessness and misery of human existence. But, hey, if you're a movie star, you've also got to be noticed.

The hardest-working festival judge in this regard must surely be Kate Beckinsale, who has been seen in more frocks – Gucci? Balmain? Marchesa? she asks herself of a morning – and hairstyles than anybody.

It's been a tough 10 days. Red-carpet premieres, special screenings and yacht parties, all of which require a different look. The British actor, daughter of the late Porridge actor Richard Beckinsale, recalled this week that she first came to Cannes 17 years ago, part of the cast in Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing.

Martin Campbell: Living on the edge
He is one of the world's most revered action directors, twice rescuing the Bond franchise. Now Martin Campbell has returned to Edge of Darkness, the 1980s TV drama that made his name. He talks to John Patterson

He has directed a string of global box-office smashes and honed action film-making down to a fine art, but Martin Campbell doesn't scream and shout about it. Or himself. A relentlessly self-effacing man, he is keen, in his plainspoken New Zealander way, not to get "too up myself". In person, he looks quite tough, combining a lean physique with a convict's buzz-cut, but he is instantly friendly, if maddeningly modest about his achievements. As he discusses his career – which has taken him from New Zealand to Britain to Los Angeles, and from TV drama to blockbusters – one theme keeps recurring: that film-making is a team event, "not an ego trip".

Yet Campbell...

Beckinsale's Family Tragedy
Kate Beckinsale
Kate Beckinsale's childhood dreams of becoming a big sister were ruined by her father's untimely death. Richard Beckinsale, beloved star of classic U.K. TV sitcoms Porridge and Rising Damp, died from a heart attack in 1979, when his daughter was just five-years-old.

And now the actress has revealed her parents were planning on having another child together just before her dad passed away, aged just 31.

And the star is proud of the fact she was the reason her actress mum Judy Loe wanted more kids.

The Underworld star, who has a half-sister, called Samantha from her father's first marriage to Margaret Bradley, tells Hollywood Life magazine, "I used to pester my mother for another baby when my father was still alive. She ended up having an eight-hour operation to unblock her tubes and things like that.

"The operation was a success, but my father died while she was having it, so it was really ironic, terrible timing."

The actress, who is a mum to nine-year-old Lily, admits she'd rethink her plans about having more kids if her daughter asked for a sibling.

She adds, "If Lily was begging me for a brother or sister I'd be more inclined (to have another)."

Lily's father is Beckinsale's ex Michael Sheen. The actress is currently married to moviemaker Len Wiseman.

The actress' daughter turns 10 on Saturday.
