Appeared in two films from the Superman franchise, but playing different roles: in Superman III (1983) he played a Tanker Captain while in Superman IV (1987) he played the U.S. President.

Played two American presidents in 1987: Ronald Reagan in Breakthrough at Reykjavik (1987) and a fictional American president in Superman IV (1987). Later on, he played Harry Truman in Diamonds High (1988).

Provided a voice, uncredited, in the film One Million Years B.C,.

When he was young, he resembled Tom Courtenay; or actually, young Tom Courtenay resembled Robert.

Did the narration on two 14 minute short films, Human Touch and . kings and Commoners.

In the early 50's compered Saturday Night Out live on television.
