Doctor Who series 8 DVD review
The Doctor Who series 8 disc release features a wealth of bonus material including the terrific Earth Conquest doc. Here's Pete's verdict...

If you’re reading this review, then there’s a good chance that you’ve both seen the twelve episodes that make up Peter Capaldi’s debut series and know exactly what we’re going to say about them. Series 8 of Doctor Who has been hailed by many as the best in several years, and one of the best since the show’s revival in 2005. It’s a verdict that we here at Den of Geek find it hard to argue with, frankly. From the light-hearted opener Deep Breath to the action-packed and slightly bonkers finale Death In Heaven, with thought-provoking episodes like Listen and Kill The Moon along the way, Series 8 has been a confident start to a brand new era for the world’s longest-running sci-fi programme.

New trailer for Brit indy horror The Tapes
Working under the proviso that the “found footage” sub genre hasn’t run out of steam quite yet, there’s what looks to be another good little British Indy horror on the way...titled...The Tapes. Written by Scott Bates and co-directed by Bates and Lee Alliston, The Tapes stars Jason Maza, Arnold Oceng, Natasha Sparkes and Nick Nevern. Synopsis: In the winter of 2008, three teenage friends, Nathan (Oceng), Gemma (Sparkes) and her boyfriend Dan (Maza), visited Whitstable, Kent to shoot location footage for Gemma’s showreel and her Big Brother TV show audition video. While filming in one of the area’s many pubs, they briefly encountered a local farmer and were later informed by the barmaid that the man was a harmless ‘swinger’ who regularly hosted sex parties at his nearby farm. Seeing an opportunity to make some easy money by breaking into the farm to secretly film...

New poster and trailer for Brit horror ‘The Tapes’
Written by Scott Bates and co-directed by Bates and Lee Alliston, The Tapes is a brand new independent British horror film starring Jason Maza (Demons Never Die; Anuvahood; Fish Tank), Arnold Oceng (Demons Never Die; 4.3.2.1.; Adulthood; Grange Hill), Natasha Sparkes (Burlesque Fairytales) and Nick Nevern (Terry; Adulthood).

A gritty, urban teen horror that takes its “found footage” cue from the likes of The Blair Witch Project and Rec, The Tapes adds a rare and chilling sense of realism to the proceedings thanks to utterly convincing performances from its excellent young cast and fine location work that suggests the horror really could happen here.

Amateur Feature Film: 'The Tapes' Delivers Blair Witch Styled Shaky-Cam Horror, While Confirming My Deepest Fears About Pigmen...
By now you should know that I have a soft spot in my heart for horror, and best of all shaky-cam shot horrors. So its my pleasure to introduce to you an Amateur effort like The Tapes, which, as a product of a groups dedication has managed to score itself a small cinema release and DVD release in the UK. From what your about to see below, it looks like an awesome effort for a film with such a low budget -- and I hope you'll do your part and take a look!

Helmed by up-and-coming british Director Scott Bates, The Tapes is his first contribution to the British Horror scene. It follows a group of teenagers shooting for their Big Brother audition tape, who find the farm they're shooting is home to a strange cult. "Now with the support of the victims families we bring you their footage. See what they saw.

Dust off the Vcr and Take at Look at The Tapes - Official Trailer is Here!
Like it or not the concept of the found footage genre is here to stay. In a time where anyone with a camera and a little incentive can put together a movie the genre has become a breeding ground for filmmakers. Some are good, some are bad but at least you know what you're going to get when you head out for one of these flicks....

Well, get prepared for the latest found footage flick. Directed by Scott Bates and co-written by Bates and Jason Maza, the synopsis from the twitter page for The Tapes reads like this. "Feb 2008: Police find several video tapes at scene of brutal crime, parents of victims give consent to show you...The Tapes - see what they saw..."

The trailer looks good and seems to combine different types of footage so we'll have to wait and see how the idea of 'found' is set up.

Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat in Paranormal Activity (2007)
I'm a big fan of cinema verite, or "found footage" horror. While it's being done to death, it's the one form of filmmaking that anyone can do with $0. Grab a camera, gets some friends, and prove you're the real deal. Sure, 99% of them suck, but eventually the next Blair Witch or Paranormal Activity will find its way. Thanks to Bd regular Avery, we scored a trailer to Scott Bates UK found footage indie pic The Tapes that stars Nick Nevern and Jason Maza. Here's the plot crunch and a piece of art: "In February 2008 several tapes were recovered at the scene of a horrific crime. Shot by three youngsters involved and with the permission of their parents, the tapes are now being released as a warning to society."...
