Seth Rogen Claims This VHS Tape Would End His Career If Found
Image
Imagine, if you will, a world where Seth Rogen — an actor and writer known for everything from "Freaks & Geeks" to "Superbad" and "Knocked Up" — appeared in "Gigli," the 2003 movie that may or may not have fractured stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's relationship for the first time. Apparently, that kind of almost happened, and Rogen claims that his audition is so deeply offensive that if anyone ever found the tape, he'd be ruined forever.

At this point, I'd like to put forth the idea that Rogen has accrued enough cultural goodwill by just being a seemingly good dude — look no further than his continued and passionate support for Alzheimer's research and care provided by the government, as just one example — but he's probably right that this video should never see the light of day. See, the role that Rogen auditioned for is Brian, a mentally challenged young man...

Seth Rogen Auditioned for Controversial ‘Gigli’ Role: ‘I Saw Myself at the Oscars’ If I Got It, but the Tape Would ‘End My Career’ Today
Image
Seth Rogen was almost part of the infamous “Gigli” box office disaster. “The Studio” star and co-creator said during “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (in the below video) that he auditioned for the 2003 film. The character Rogen read for had a “cognitive disability” and was later played by “The Hangover” actor Justin Bartha.

Now, Rogen is saying that if the audition tape ever leaks, his career could be over. “It has been a long time,” Rogen said. “And thank God it was mostly physical VHS tapes and stuff like that that was being used when I was auditioning for things, because the things I auditioned for, in retrospect, if they were out there in the world, they would end my career very, very fast, I believe. […] Truthfully, if that tape was out [in] the world today, this would be the last interview you ever saw me do. Other than, like, my apology tour.

Seth Rogen Once Auditioned to Play a ‘Boy With a Cognitive Disability’ and Says It Went ‘So Bad’ It ‘Would End My Career’ if the Tape Leaked: ‘If You Have It, Burn It’
Image
Seth Rogen recently quipped on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that he might lose his acting career if his early aughts audition for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s “Gigli” was ever to be made public. “The Studio” star and creator was asked by Kimmel if he still has to audition for parts, which prompted Rogen to walk down bad memory lane.

“It has been a long time,” Rogen said. “And thank god it was mostly physical VHS tapes and stuff like that that was being used when I was auditioning for things, because the things I auditioned for, in retrospect, if they were out there in the world, they would end my career very, very fast, I believe.”

Rogen “auditioned for this boy with a cognitive disability” in “Gigli,” a role that would ultimately go to Justin Bartha. “And I don’t think the script was written in what, by today’s standards,...

Tandem Pictures Simultaneously Developing Megan Suri-Led Live-Action Video Game ‘Great Northern’ and Its Indie Film Adaptation (Exclusive)
Image
Julie Christeas’ Tandem Pictures is making its first move into the gaming space with a new project that will pull double duty as both a live-action video game and an indie film produced using the same footage.

Starring “Never Have I Ever” and “Companion” actress Megan Suri, “Great Northern” tells the “bold story of a young woman riding her motorcycle across the country to Alaska to scatter her father’s ashes, per the game’s description. With danger around every corner, players will make impactful decisions as a modern-day lone ranger facing the open road on the adventure of a lifetime.”

In its simplest description, “Great Northern” is a choose-your-own-adventure game, and the subsequent standalone film based on the title will be developed based on “the characters and plotlines that are most beloved by the community of people who play the game.”

Production is set to begin on “Great Northern...

Seth Rogen Says His Audition Footage for Controversial Role in Panned Ben Affleck Film Would End His Career
Image
Seth Rogen continues to find success in his Hollywood career following the success of his Apple TV+ series, The Studio. He believes he would have gotten derailed quickly, however, if anyone were to see the footage from an early audition in his career.

Rogen recently appeared on the late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a new interview. He reflected on his growth as an actor, remembering how he was still on the rise when he auditioned for a role in the notorious 2003 film Gigli. Rogen said he auditioned for the role of Brian, a mentally challenged character who was ultimately cast with Justin Bartha in the role. Given Rogen's reflective opinion that the character was not written in a "sensitive" way, he is sure that his portrayal wouldn't be well-received.

“It has been a long time [since I last auditioned for a role],” Rogen told Jimmy Kimmel. “And thank god it was mostly physical VHS tapes...

Seth Rogen Explains Why His ‘Gigli’ Audition Tape Would “End My Career” If It Leaked
Image
More than 20 years after the movie that launched Bennifer, Seth Rogen recently recalled his audition for 2003’s Gigli.

The 3x Golden Globe nominee explained that he was “an aspiring young actor” when he auditioned for the role of mentally challenged hostage Brian, who was ultimately portrayed by Justin Bartha in the Ben Affleck/Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy crime flick.

“It has been a long time,” he said on Jimmy Kimmel Live of the last time he auditioned. “And thank god it was mostly physical VHS tapes and stuff like that that was being used when I was auditioning for things, because the things I auditioned for, in retrospect, if they were out there in the world, they would end my career very, very fast, I believe.”

Seth Rogen Dishes on the Audition Tape That ‘Would End My Career Very, Very Quickly’ | Video
Image
Even the biggest, most successful actors in Hollywood have auditions they’re ashamed of — and for Seth Rogen, that audition happened for the movie “Gigli.” “The Studio” creator and star reflected on his regrettable tape while stopping by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

“Thank god it was physical VHS tapes and stuff like that that was being used when I was auditioning for things because the things I auditioned for, in retrospect, if they were out there in the world, would end my career very, very fast,” Rogen said on Thursday night. When pressed for an example of a regrettable audition, the comedy star brought up the movie “Gigli.”

Directed by Martin Brest, “Gigli” follows two mobsters played by Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez who are tasked with kidnapping the younger brother of a powerful federal prosecutor. Only there was a catch.

“In ‘Gigli,’ they’re assassins who are sent to watch...

Stoned Friends Freak Out Comedy 'Nuked' Trailer with Justin Bartha
Image
"We're gonna be okay, right?" "I hope so... it would suck if we werent." Quiver Distribution has unveiled an official trailer for an absurd new comedy called Nuked, about a group of friends who get super stoned. The title isn't really a pun on being high, it's actually related to the story and what happens while they're high. This premiered at last year's Tribeca Film Festival and will be released this summer on VOD for everyone to also get stoned and watch. A group of friends gets together for a cannabis-infused, technology free, dinner party only to learn a bomb is headed right for them. This seems to be a riff on that Hawaii nuclear missile freak out from 2018, where they accidentally announced that a missile was on the way for 30 minutes before it was called off as a mistake. The pot kicks in right as they realize that they...

Modern Movie Masterpieces That Fans Went Into With Zero Expectations
Image
Many find it hard to believe that the 2020s are halfway over. Within the decade, audiences have witnessed many surprise hits in the theaters, including but not limited to a Top Gun legacy sequel and one of the best Godzilla movies ever made. Even though the 2020s have been heavily reliant on blockbusters, other periods within the 21st century have shown their fair share of surprisingly crowd-pleasing films.

From the 2000s onward, there has been an array of theatrically released movies that caught audiences off-guard with how high-quality and entertaining they were. Viewers initially had little to no expectations for these movie releases, yet strong word-of-mouth persuaded them to see what everyone was raving about. As a result, these modern movies, from legacy sequels to downright fun action and comedy films, are now considered masterpieces in their respective genres.

These Disney Adventure Movies Are the Perfect Indiana Jones Replacements
Image
Disney has created massive blockbuster brands throughout their many years in Hollywood, from their massive Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to the acquisition of Lucasfilms, which included the Indiana Jones character. The legendary explorer has had an interesting past few years, with James Mangold's swan song for the character, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, not making the waves that it should have critically or at the box office. Luckily, the Indiana Jones video game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, brought the character back into the good graces of the audience and debuted as a smash hit. Indiana Jones is a character who will remain in pop culture forever due to the original trilogy of classics and Harrison Ford's iconic portrayal. However, if audiences are looking for an alternative to Indiana Jones, whether looking for something new or even more of an adventure, they can look...

National Treasure 3 Is Long Overdue After Disney's Failed Streaming Plan
Image
National Treasure 3 is needed more than ever after the cancelation of National Treasure: Edge of History. The franchise's last movie was released in 2007 and set up National Treasure 3 by teasing the mysterious contents on page 47 of the United States presidents' book of secrets. Despite this setup for a direct sequel, the franchise remained dormant for the next 15 years, until a spinoff series, National Treasure: Edge of History, debuted on Disney+ in 2022.

While Edge of History did feature connections to the movies and saw some of the original cast members reprising their roles, including Justin Bartha's Riley Poole and Harvey Keitel's Agent Peter Sadusky, the series proved to not be as popular, and was canceled after one season. 17 years after National Treasure: Book of Secrets, the enticing page 47 National Treasure cliffhanger remains unaddressed, as does the opportunity to see Nicolas Cage play Benjamin Franklin Gates again. 10 Best Quotes From 'The Hangover,' Ranked
Image
The Hangover franchise got worse with every sequel, but Part II and Part III don't take away from the obnoxious hilarity of the first installment. The 2009 original is one of those raunchy comedies that just wants to have a good time and largely succeeds, making for a lot of funny quotes. Four guys head to Las Vegas for a bachelor party right before Doug (Justin Bartha) gets married. Zach Galifianakis got his breakout role as Alan, a socially inept guy with zero self-awareness and an alarmingly intense amount of loyalty to three men he doesn't know all that well. Bradley Cooper launched into superstardom with his role as Phil, and Ed Helms essentially plays the only character with genuine developmentmaking some of the most meaningful quotes his.

Bradley Cooper Comedy With 79% Rotten Tomatoes Score Becomes A Huge Streaming Hit 15 Years Later
Image
Bradley Cooper is a multi-time Oscar nominee with a deep history in the film industry. After kicking off his career with an episode of Sex and the City in 1999, the early days of Cooper's career consisted mainly of comedies. This trend began for the actor in 2001 when he acted in the star-studded Wet Hot American Summer. From there, the then-rising star would go on to make several other movies in the same genre, including Wedding Crashers, The Rocker, and more.

It was not until the 2010s that Cooper's career really shifted more heavily into drama. In 2013, Cooper was nominated for his first Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in the Jennifer Lawrence-co-starring film Silver Linings Playbook. He would continue on a hot streak in dramas from that point, being nominated for Oscars in both subsequent years. Now, he is a multi-hyphenate talent known for acting, producing,...

The Hangover 4: We Aren’t Sure if Todd Phillips Should Return for the Sequel Despite Bradley Cooper’s Desperation
Image
It would be weird for fans to see Todd Phillips back to direct the Wolfpack members on another adventure gone wrong. The Hangover was a film that worked on a particular formula, that has been used over and over again in its sequels and other similar comedy films. While Bradley Cooper may want to go down his comedy roots again with a fourth film, it just doesn’t make any sense at this point.

The original film starred Cooper, Ed Helms, Zack Galifianakis, and Justin Bartha as the four protagonists who always end up in a hangover mess when they get together. While the first film became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy at the time, the two sequels failed to live up to the original.

I'm Gonna Steal The Declaration Of Independence: Nic Cages Explanation For His Iconic Line Is Why We Need National Treasure 3
Image
There are several reasons why National Treasure 3 needs to happen, but one reason comes from Nicolas Cage's explanation for his iconic line in the movie. The widely quoted, "I'm gonna steal the Declaration of Independence," is one of the most memorable aspects of National Treasure, largely because of Cage's excellent delivery. The line has followed Cage throughout his career due to its sheer absurdity, but with good reason. It is just that good.

The recent National Treasure 3 updates have hinted that the threequel is in the works, despite several high-profile actors and Cage himself saying that the movie is unlikely. However, there is still hope that a National Treasure 3 story will happen in the next few years given the success of the first two movies and the recent reports on the possibility of a third big-screen installment. One thing is certain, Cage absolutely nailed his performance in National Treasure,...

The Best Todd Phillips Movies, Ranked
Image
Todd Phillips made his directing and writing debut on a feature film with Road Trip back in 2000, for which he also has an acting credit. From there, the director has gone on to create some of the best comedies that have stuck around since their initial release. His usual genre took a slight turn with War Dogs, although the film is still laced with humor.

However, Phillips really showed the extension of his abilities with the thriller film Joker in 2019, which he also wrote and directed. The recent release of Joker: Folie Deux is Phillips' latest work, once again taking on the reimagining of the classic Batman villain. With plenty of other movies for fans of his to explore, the following list lays out some of Phillips' best work.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Ed Helms, known for his role on The Office, played Stu in the movie, and recently went on Dany Carvey and David Spades Fly on the Wall podcast and said even old ladies love the gross-out film.

I was in a hotel lobby maybe a month or a few weeks or two after it came out, Helms explained. There was a group of old ladies, like literally grandmothers, sitting around talking about bits from the movie and how funny it was. I remember thinking, Okay, this, and then of course you had all the frat boys that love it, he said.

25 Best Quotes From The Hangover
Image
The Hangover quotes are a big factor in this comedy's lasting legacy. Proving a huge surprise hit when it was released in 2009, The Hangover became one of the highest-grossing comedies and highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Justin Bartha as four guys who go out to Las Vegas for a bachelor party and things take a hilariously disastrous turn when the groomsmen wake up from some hard partying to find the groom missing and they have no recollection of the night before.

The Hangover launched the careers of its main cast and was director Todd Phillips' biggest hit until he helmed Joker and its highly anticipated sequel. Though it has been over 15 years since that first movie was released, there are so many hilarious Hangover quotes that still stay with fans all these years later. Phillips' directorial style and the...

Joker 2's Todd Phillips Explains Why Filmmakers Makes So Many Sequels
Image
While audiences are beginning to bemoan Hollywood's endless cavalcade of sequels, assuming them to be lazy cash grabs, acclaimed director Todd Phillips has provided an alternative reason as to why your favorite movies are being turned into franchises. Phillips returns to cinemas later this year with the eagerly anticipated sequel, Joker: Folie Deux which sees Joaquin Phoenix return as the titular DC Comics villain, this time joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in a wild reimaginging of the classic characters. The upcoming movie is not the first sequel Phillips has made either, as the director previously turned his beloved comedy The Hangover into an iconic trilogy.

Matthew McConaughey's $130M Trending On Netflix Is A Harsh Reminder Of A Disappointing 5-Year Streak
Image
Failure to Launch's resurgence on Netflix is a reminder of McConaughey's rom-com era and his absence from live-action films since 2019. Despite critics' disapproval, the film's $130M box office success and McConaughey's performance make it a nostalgic hit for audiences. McConaughey's upcoming live-action projects, like The Lost Bus and The Rivals of Amziah King, will mark his return to the big screen.

The recent popularity of the 2006 rom-com Failure to Launch has stirred up some jarring recollections about Matthew McConaughey's career, including an ongoing dry streak in film. For some, being privy to Failure to Launch's trending status means remembering that McConaughey once fronted a string of poorly received romance movies in the 2000s, i.e., The Wedding Planner (2001) and Fool's Gold (2008). Yet, for others, particularly those appreciative of McConaughey's rom-com era, Failure to Launch's unexpected resurgence is a weighty reminder of how long it's been since the...

Matthew McConaugheys Failure to Launch Becomes Global Hit on Netflix
Image
Failure to Launch did exactly that back in 2006, at least with critics. The 18-year-old romantic comedy that teamed up Matthew McConaughey with Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker had problems finding professional praise nearly two decades ago, but Failure to Launch has suddenly become a streaming success. McConaughey and SJPs rom-com currently ranks No. 7 on Netflixs Global Top 10 (per Tudum). And during its first week among the 10 best movies, the film amassed 7.8 million hours viewed and 4.8 million views.

Now, those Failure to Launch critiques were scathing to be sure, which resulted in the movie registering only 23% on the Tomatometer against 151 reviews. And according to Rotten Tomatoes, moviegoers didnt find McConaughey and SJPs collaboration all that enjoyable either. After all, Failure to Launch holds a splatting 52% audience score. But its hard to believe the Rt ratings truly reflected what was happening in 2006.

National Treasure 3 screenwriter on the project’s status, characters, and treasure hunt
Image
Seventeen years after we last followed historian, cryptographer, and treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates (played by Nicolas Cage) on an adventure, we might finally be getting a new sequel to the 2004 film National Treasure and its 2007 follow-up National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets. Although producer Jerry Bruckheimer said two years ago that there was a “really good” script in place and awaiting Cage’s approval, it must not have met his approval, because screenwriter Ted Elliott revealed to the National Treasure Hunt podcast that he has been working on the project for the last year and recently completed his first draft of the script.

During his interview on the podcast, Elliott confirmed that his script is complete and ready for revisions and teased that he has written “familiar faces” into the story beyond the returning main characters of Ben Gates, computer expert and author Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), Dr. Abigail...

Matthew McConaughey's Poorly-Reviewed Comedy Becomes Netflix Global Hit 18 Years Later

Despite being poorly-reviewed, Matthew McConaughey's romantic comedy Failure to Launch is now a hit on Netflix globally. The film explores themes of adulthood and independence through McConaughey's character living with his parents at 35. The success of this formulaic rom-com from McConaughey's career in the 2000s reflects a different era in the film industry.

Per ScreenRant, Elliot revealed new details and plot elements of the third National Treasure film during an appearance on the National Treasure Hunt podcast. Among those elements were the evolution of key characters in the franchise, including Justin Bartha's Riley Poole. "Riley has changed more [than anybody else]," Elliot explained. "If you just look at the two points that are established for him in the first and second movies. In the first one, he is the uninformed audience... National Treasure 3's Returning Characters, Villains & Story Teased By Screenwriter After 17 Years Of Development
Image
Ted Elliot has completed a first draft of the National Treasure 3 script, though it still needs rewrites. Elliot teases that, in addition to Ben, Riley, and Abigail, other familiar faces could return. The story of National Treasure 3 will feature an evolved relationship between Ben and Riley, and National Treasure: Edge of History is being treated as canon.

National Treasure 3 screenwriter Ted Elliot shares a progress update on the anticipated sequel, dropping some story and character teases. After the success of 2004's National Treasure, which introduces Nicolas Cage's treasure-hunter, Benjamin Gates, a sequel was released in 2007, reuniting the actor with costars Diane Kruger (Abigail Chase) and Justin Bartha (Riley Poole). National Treasure 3 has been in development for some time, but the project has struggled to get off the ground for years now, though numerous parties involved have expressed willingness to return, including director Jon Turteltaub.

Nuked Review | A Raunchy Good Time in the Apocalypse
Image
Nuked combines raunchy humor and heartfelt truths about relationships with a likable ensemble cast and lots of cannabis. Couples gather at an opulent dinner party and face a nuclear crisis, leading to surprising honesty and revelations. The film may be contrived and stretch believability in its plot, but still delivers an entertaining and thought-provoking experience.

In Nuked, a podcast host and her husband throw a birthday party while they're trying to conceive; the consequences are explosive. Nuked tickles the funny bone with raunchy humor, obscene language, and silly sight gags, but also delivers heartfelt truths about being honest in relationships. A likable ensemble cast overcomes the script's glaringly predictable aspects. There's no doubt about the overall conclusion once the characters are introduced and the premise takes hold, but good chemistry and the slapstick laughs go a long way.

Nicolas Cage's National Treasure Is the Perfect Movie for 4th of July
Image
National Treasure celebrates patriotism on the 4th of July through its storyline centered around the Declaration of Independence. The film highlights American history, including historical landmarks and figures, while maintaining a family-friendly watch. National Treasure emphasizes the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and national heritage, making it an ideal 4th of July watch.

With the 4th of July only days away, it's almost time to set up the fireworks, fire up the barbecues, and kick back with a patriotic movie. July 4th, also known as Independence Day, commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. What better film could you ask for to celebrate the holiday than Nicolas Cage's 2004 box office hit, National Treasure?

While several films make patriotism its focal point, Cage's National Treasure sets itself apart because it makes the Declaration of Independence, the document at the heart of the 4th of July, a core element in its storyline.

Bentonville Film Festival Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary With Renewed Purpose
Image
As festivals have increasingly endeavored to showcase more diverse talent, benchmarks of inclusivity occasionally run the risk of feeling like a dutiful checklist.

The Bentonville Film Festival, though, has celebrated — and elevated — underrepresented voices since its inception. Returning for its 10th edition from June 10-16, the northwest Arkansas festival has always taken as its mission statement the centering of work from not only LGBTQ+ and Bipoc creators but also other historically marginalized groups.

That focus shouldn’t be surprising, given that the festival’s roots stretch back to the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, a nonprofit research organization the actor founded after noticing the disparity in female characters while watching TV series and movies with her daughter.

While co-founder Davis remains Bentonville Film Festival’s chair, president Wendy Guerrero and artistic director Drea Clark, with a combined 19 years of experience with the festival, provide stability and steerage.

Image
Jon Turteltaub believes Edge of History won't affect National Treasure 3, emphasizing the different formats and creative teams involved. The National Treasure franchise's success depends on Cage and Turteltaub, as Edge of History's lack of impact led to its cancelation. Despite the uncertainty surrounding Cage's return, Turteltaub confirms National Treasure 3 is in the works, hinting at possible familiar faces.

Original director Jon Turteltaub addresses whether the canceled Disney+ show, Edge of History, will impact National Treasure 3. Disney's action-adventure franchise began with the original 2004 film and was followed by the 2007 sequel Book of Secrets, both of which starred Nicolas Cage and were directed by Turteltaub, grossing over a combined $800 million at the box office. The Disney+ spinoff series, Edge of History, was released in 2023 without the involvement of Cage or Turteltaub and was canceled after one season. A third film is likely to come to fruition due to Cage's recent career resurgence and interest from key players involved in the franchise.
