This year’s SXSW Film Festival, taking place in Austin, TX, has unveiled its lineup this afternoon and it’s another insanely packed year for horror premieres.

While the Midnighter section is dedicated to the genre lovers, SXSW 2025 has filled its Headliner section and beyond with buzzy, highly anticipated titles including Flying Lotus‘s sci-fi horror movie Ash, Christopher Landon‘s ode to Brian De Palma in Drop, and A24’s Death of a Unicorn. Also look for Clown in a Cornfield, the film adaptation of Adam Cesare’s YA slasher novel.

Exclusive: Lisa Steen’s debut feature Late Bloomers, starring Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy franchise), is the latest starry festival indie to have secured North American distribution through Vertical.

Other recent pickups for Vertical include the Sundance genre-bender Your Monster starring Melissa Barrera, true crime doc The Speedway Murders, Brittany Snow’s SXSW-premiering directorial debut Parachute, and the Zoe Saldaña thriller The Absence of Eden co-acquired with Roadside Attractions, to name just a few.

Specifics as to the release plan for Late Bloomers haven’t been disclosed.

Grapefruit is a thought-provoking meditation on failed relationships and the complexities of family dynamics. The performances by Steph Barkley and Rosanna Arquette steal the show in this indie film. Clever dialogue and little symbols go a long way in this lo-fi dramedy.

What's the most beautiful word in the English language? Travis, played by Chase Joliet, in his new film Grapefruit, will tell you it's a four-letter word that starts with the letter "F." Maybe he has a point. "You can use it as a noun, an adverb," he tells his mom Evelyn (Rosanna Arquette), and the list of reasons goes on. And on that note, the list of reasons why Grapefruit is such a triumph goes on, in addition to this powerful little mother-son moment that sheds light on troubled families everywhere. Though this is no typical family drama film, and you'll find yourself wanting more by the end.

The horror anthology sequel Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge has been available to watch on the Shudder streaming service since the end of December, but here’s some good news for those of you who either don’t subscribed to Shudder or want to add the movie to your physical media collection: Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge is set to receive a DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD release on April 11th, and the discs can already be pre-ordered on Amazon!

SXSW has announced the first wave of movie and television programming for its 2023 film festival, including its narrative, documentary, and television competition lineups.

While several sections of the complete film lineup, including this year’s Global and 24 Beats Per Minute programming, have yet to be announced, the lineup already features new work from many of the industry’s most exciting names. The festival will open with the world premiere of “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” John Francis Dailey and Jonathan Goldstein’s comedic adaptation of the beloved role-playing game. Other notable premieres include “Evil Dead Rise,” the latest entry in Sam Raimi’s camp horror franchise that hails from director Lee Cronin; Eva Longoria’s Frito-Lay origin story “Flamin’ Hot”; and the Season 2 premiere of “Blindspotting.”

“We are thrilled to announce the first wave of our incredible lineup for SXSW 2023,” SXSW VP of Film & TV Claudette Godfrey said in a statement.

SXSW has announced the first batch of titles in its 2023 film festival line-up, including opening night movie, Paramount’s big-budget adventure film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

“We are thrilled to announce the first wave of our incredible lineup for SXSW 2023,” said Claudette Godfrey, vp film & tv. “It’s an amazing collection of films, TV series and Xr experiences that promise to inspire, entertain and challenge our audiences. The other 2023 headliners are the Julio Torres A24 movie Problemista, the latest film in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise, and Eva Longoria’s directorial debut Flamin’ Hot. Last year’s headliners included box office break out The Lost City and awards contender Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Last month, Shudder served up one last genre gift during the holiday season in the form of Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, a sequel to the 2020 breakout indie horror anthology. For the follow-up, the story picks up directly after its predecessor at the funeral for Rad Chad (Jeremy King), where those in attendance are forced to play a series of games in order to survive.

Created by Aaron B. In the run-up to Cannes Toronto genre specialist Raven Banner has landed sales rights to the upcoming Shudder original sequel Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge produced and directed by creator Aaron B. Koontz with Paper Street Pictures.

Raven Banner will present select clips to buyers at the market on the project, which is in post and is also being produced by Cameron Burns, Ashleigh Snead, Alex Euting and Shawn Talley for Paper Street. Alexandra Barreto, Jed Shepherd, Rachele Wiggins and Anthony Cousins have stepped into the anticipated sequel as segment directors.

If you don’t have the patience to binge-watch an entire series of television during quarantine but still want a daily dose of entertainment, the Tribeca Film Festival will roll out one short film a day that you can stream online for free.

The daily series is charmingly titled “A Short Film a Day, Keeps Anxiety Away,” and the postponed festival will debut a new short film each day from a different filmmaker, including several making their online premieres and others that come from the festival’s alumni.

The first premiere of the series will be “Lady Hater” from writer and director Alexandra Barreto on Mar. 30. The film is a comedy short about a woman who finds herself stressed out after she picks the very wrong yoga class.

The actor and wife Alexandra Barreto recently welcomed their first child, according to E! News.

The couple's son, Indigo "Indy" Baretto Strong, was born on December 28, 2014.

Us Weekly reports that the little one was born on Dec. 28, and the couple managed to keep Alexandra's entire pregnancy under wraps. Actor Rider Strong, best known for his role as bad boy Shawn Hunter on ABC's beloved series Boy Meets World, welcomed his first child with wife Alexandra Barreto on Sunday, Dec. 28, People reports. Rider, 35, and Alexandra, 39, have decided to name their new baby boy Indigo.

The good news is a surprise for Rider's fans, given that the couple kept the pregnancy and birth completely under wraps. The two have been married since October 2013, after meeting on the set of the WB show Pepper Dennis in 2006.

Ben Savage will be taking a turn behind the camera to make his directorial debut with an episode of Girl Meets World.

Savage rose to stardom as a child actor in the popular sitcom Boy Meets World (1993-2000), which will be revived this summer when the spinoff, Girl Meets World premieres on the Disney Channel. Savage reprises his role as Cory Matthews alongside his TV wife Danielle Fishel, aka Topanga Matthews, but this time around the show will focus on his tween daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and her best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter).

Savage will be directing an episode in which Riley and Maya give a weird girl a makeover to make her more attractive – in their eyes – to their friend Farkle (Corey Fogelmanis). In Girl Meets World, the childhood sweethearts-turned-married couple of Cory and (Ben Savage) Topanga (Danielle Fishel) are now parents to a tween daughter named Riley (Rowan Blanchard). While Blanchard is the star of the show, much focus is being placed on Savage and Fishel’s return to their old roles and fictional relationship.
