Born in Canton, Ohio during the Great Depression, Earl Barret is known primarily as a television writer/producer although he has written both plays and screenplays. Eden Was On a Hollywood Hill is his first book.

As a free-lance writer Earl wrote for some of TV's most iconic comedies: Bewitched, My Three Sons, Get Smart, Batman, Sanford and Son, Bob Newhart, I Spy, The Wild, Wild, West, The Andy Griffith Show, Welcome Back Kotter, etc.

Then Earl went over to the dark side and became story editor for The Governor and JJ. He and the producer, Arne Sultan, wrote 19 episodes and eventually became writing partners. Earl produced the next couple of shows they did, and finally they both were the Executive Producers of Too Close for Comfort which they developed for American TV.

In all, Earl wrote episodes for 33 different television shows.
